It's only missing the big game hunter's head on the wall with a bear lounging in the easy chair.

Where I live the deer are so overpopulated that they are driving other organisms into extinction. Sometimes killing them is the ethical way. Or we can start airdropping wolves. It would be cool.

I came here for this! Hahaha! Seriously though that map is an incredible Mercator Projection at that scale in Lego!

I really hate the concept of game hunting, but the LEGO build looks stunning and well executed! I especially like the creativity of the globe, the chair, the tables and the world map :) The animals look very stunning too, although I definitely prefer them to be alive.

My sentiment exactly. The subject matter is something that I am uncomfortable with IRL, and that I would not want to celebrate. But this is an amazing build. Great attention to detail.
10
u/KingsleyShackleblock 3d ago
Precisely. Following that train of thought, I would never design something like this myself, and hope others aren't reminded of game hunting as a possible hobby they'd consider... But I really love the design indeed, and the way there's so much to look at, yet it's not too crowded!

What's your opinion on fake taxidermy, using other materials to create something that only looks and feels like it came from a dead animal? It has actually been done before!
2
u/KingsleyShackleblock 2d ago edited 2d ago
Hmm, I had to think about that for a while. It's certainly better! I think it depends on your purpose.
If it would be an alternative for a zoo, I would be all for it, as it removes the harm placed on real animals.
If it would be as decoration for a random place, I would be against it: as it still looks and feels like it comes from a dead animal (so not something made from wood, for instance), to me it still pretends dominance over animals that were once alive and free, and I'm against that.
Maybe if it would be clearly fake and it's not just the 'chopped head' but the whole body, like it's art, it might feel different too.
But I guess to me personally it's like you let AI make children porn: sure, it's way better than abusing real children and there are no real children harmed, but I would rather not see the concept of abuse (and in this case, murder for fun) at all. You get what I mean?
2
u/RevolutionaryGrape11 2d ago
I much prefer full-body taxidermy to just the heads, for both real and fake taxidermy. I feel like if you're going to do taxidermy, unless you only have a very small space, you need to give the animal as much respect and presence as you can in how you place it, or at least creativity.
I also do get your point as to why you hate it, even if I'm not nearly as vehement about it, it's an opinion I understand and respect. I don't own any myself currently.
3
u/KingsleyShackleblock 2d ago
Thanks for you reply and your interesting question! What is your own vision on the real thing then? Do you hunt for fun/games yourself?
3
u/RevolutionaryGrape11 2d ago
I prefer people only hunt for either food or to keep the population of animals that reproduce out-of-control in check, and consider taxidermy a way of keeping the animal remembered and still alive in a way in our world even as their soul is in Heaven, a reminder of the animal's tale it lived. Troublesome animals and sanctioned ones in national parks are fair game to me as well, but those are much rarer cases then the norm.

Another thing is taxidermy that is a real animal, but one that wasn't killed, they just found a dead one. There's a taxidermy bear at one of my favorite zoos that got hit by a car.

So many cool details, I like the technique on the shark’s eyes, the map and globe/liquor cabinet are super cool too

The shark is straight from a creator 3 in 1 set of a few years ago. (In case you want to have the shark seperately for yourself)

I can't stand big game hunting, and I also think it's not actually a Lego-suitable subject. HOWEVER, it is really fucking well done. That map is great, the animal heads are creative. I love the cigar, the little model of the sun, teh drinking globe, the bearskin.... It looks exactly like what you'd expect a hunter's room to look like. Great execution!

This is super cool. As a festive and fairly dark touch, you should switch the black stud to a red one on the deer's nose to make it Rudolph.

I think this set is amazing and perfectly executed. I would LOVE to purchase the instructions if the actual set never goes to production! Hunting has been a part of our history for centuries. Thank you for showcasing the trophies in such a tasteful and proper way! Again, this set is amazing!

The first glance made me feel disgusted. Then I realised that this is all Lego and that this all took a huge amount of work to create. Well done.

I love the bear rug! Remind me of my Newf when she decides to splay on the ground like a freaking rug. Always in the middle of the room or right by a doorway too. Just to be REALLY in the way.

The jackalope is a fun touch, as is the bar hidden inside the globe. Is this Miniland scale, or?

Really cool but your rifle looks like an air rifle i‘d rework it to be a double barrel as that is what most elephant rifles are either h&h bolt action or 700 double barrel side by side
