Mickey Mouse was theorized to be used in MK ultra where the visual imagery would trigger responses in people for violence.
Not to mention the symbology of Mickey Mouse is what they call a “gateway” into secret societies/shadow governments and new world order for youth. Disney was heavily involved with the free masons. Which as overall knowledge of how things actually operate started to become transparent, they backed off public connection.→ More replies (2)3

Before I swipped, I thought that the bricks on what I now know as the front of the build to be a type of qr virus type situation so if someone took a picture they would upload a virus to their phone. I was not quite right on that one.

I’m not one to comment on art usually but for me: This piece speaks to me about authoritarian brutality hidden beneath the desire to maintain the faux happiness of the status quo and nationalistic tendencies of current politics, itself hidden behind a mask of artful confusion
Addendum: Well colour me happy, thank you for the kind rewards strangers, I’ll have to run out and buy a beret but I’m too big for stripes.
Might I also add that my partner finds it shallow and pedantic

I just thought it can’t be criticism of NATO, as that would be too low IQ. In my mind it’s the argument between MAGA, Denmark and Greenland.

This is amazing art, just the Danish flag and Lego as a logo in the wall of shame in the middle might need explanation but it speaks by itself otherwise. True art, made of bricks.

It seems pretty straightforward; it’s about Lego’s relationship with Police and, downwind of that, authoritarianism.
Lego, a Danish company (thus the flag), is responsible for producing tons of sets designed for kids that uncritically present the police in a wholly positive light. Essentially, they make a lot of their money selling “copaganda” to our youngest.
Obviously Lego doesn’t make the only pro-cop children’s toys out there, but it’s been a prominent element of the City theme for a long time (Some of the pieces used here are probably older than me!), and that deserves a critical look.
Edit: Some loser reported me to u/RedditCareResources for this one! 🤡

u/SagaSolejma 28d ago
Still feels really weird to make Lego represent all of denmark tho
2
u/TheGuyInTheGlasses 28d ago edited 28d ago
In my interpretation, the point is more that Lego is promoting policy they likely have no stake in to children on the other side of the world. The flag is there not to represent Denmark as a whole, but to emphasize that the Lego company is— perhaps unwittingly— a foreign influence on American politics.

u/PlantBeginning3060 28d ago

I love this, it’s incredible. My only question is your use of “LEGO” in it that implies complicity. I’m not sure I agree with that. Otherwise, it’s amazing.
Edit - I’m saying the “Lego” printed bricks. Not the actual build. In case people are somehow confused. I just don’t think TLG endorses oppression and surveillance.

It may be alluding to the joke that LEGO City is a police state. Of course thats based on the copious number of sets in the theme implying LEGO City spends an exorbitant amount of its budget on law enforcement over health care, education, etc. I do think it is important to remember that LEGO is for children who 1. Love playing cops and robbers and 2. Are always growing older, so new sets are needed for the next group of kids growing into the toys. At least, Thats my interpretation of its use. I do think there is a level of copaganda out there that is unhealthy but LEGO doesn't seem to be on that end of the spectrum. There are some sets that do give me pause though, such as 60369 for its depiction of the use of police dogs, but thats a personal opinion on excessive force used by law enforcement. But again, they are toys for children and I don't think its meant to indoctrinate them to be accepting of corruption in law enforcement.

I understand the artwork, I’m talking specifically about the use of the LEGO logo. I don’t think comparing LEGO police to the LAPD is exactly fair. I think your comparison to Jedi or Batman makes more sense, but I still think the LEGO logo is kind of implying they are somehow responsible.

I don't know about complicit, but LEGO does heavily participate in consumerism and all the baggage that comes with that.

u/-kalanco- 28d ago
Ok but how is that related to this piece depicting mass surveillance, police murders and authoritarianism?

u/TheGuyInTheGlasses 28d ago
Is Lego somehow not complicit when they sell sets that uncritically glorify police?
1
u/sparkyblaster 28d ago
Pritty sure this has come up before, and the general concences is no. I write a word, bic has nothing to do with it.
-4
u/niztaoH 28d ago
I would say it's fair to claim Lego has a complicit role in the glorification of violence as perpetrated by the USA police forces, by virtue of always portraying the police as the good guys, for example.

Star spangled authoritarianism beholden to the corporate shackles paid for graciously by lobbyists who believe it's in the governments best interest to protect them before their own people.
Lego is certainly one of the few corps I'd call "benevolent" due to the small acts of kindness they tend to show towards consumers who are dissatisfied or receive faulty products, but the bare minimum shouldn't be impressive. A corporation at the end of the day only exists to extract wealth, the toys and media produced just happen to be a nice side-effect of that.

Mickey represents corporations, which push and pull at the levers of government in order to amass greater wealth and enact legislation that benefits them (usually at the detriment of the private individual).
