Is just being gassy after Milk lactose intolerance?

Hello,

I’ve been consuming milk and milk products since childhood regularly. Roughly around 2-3 times in a day. Never had a problem with it. Being a lacto-ovo vegetarian it’s probably a crucial source of protein for me. I suppose a good amount of protein for me comes from whey, milk and paneer.

5 years back, I started taking fitness seriously and upped my protein intake to 120g per day, which led me to go from 1 glass of milk to 2 glasses. I also added a scoop of whey and some paneer (cottage cheese).

Everything was going fine, however, since the past 2 years I’ve noticed I just tend to get gassy and fart more often, not really burp. It’s gotten sort of annoying. Other than that there is no issue.

Can I be sure this lactose intolerance or sensitivity? Or is it just a protein thing?

Started taking lactase pills, it's so strange not having to run to the bathroom right after every meal.

I have had a suspicion that I'm lactose intolerant for a few years, but I love dairy and I thought my only option was cutting them out completely, so I just suffered the consequences.

A few days ago (after some really bad experience) I had an epiphany that I could start taking lactase pills with my meals that contain milk or any other dairy to see if anything changes. Tried them yesterday and today and I'm absolutely shocked how I went 24 hours without diarrhea, feeling nauseous or an upset tummy. The most I've experienced is a rumbling stomach. I even tried the same meal that caused me intense agony 2 days ago, and nothing!

This is absolutely life changing! Can't believe I'm only discovering this now.

Milk causing cough

Since childhood I would drink 2 glass of milk daily but then cough and blocked/runny nose was an everyday issue throughout the year. 7 years back i stopped drinking milk completely and I didn't suffer from cough/ cold all these years even though I used to eat curd everyday and ice cream often but it didn't cause me any issue. I started drinking milk few days back and i am facing the same old issue again. I don't face any other issue except cough and cold from milk. Is it intolerance? I haven't done any tests yet. I like drinking milk and i don't want to cut it out.
Also I had got nutrition deficient in vitamin b12 back then after i had cut down milk. I am still deficient in it.

Why did so many kids that were lactose intolerant eat dairy products in the middle of a school day?

Something I was just thinking about. I had lactose intolerant kids in my class nearly every year while I was in the school, and they always ate dairy products knowing they would get sick. One guy in particular would always this pudding we had for lunch and then fart up a storm for the rest of the afternoon. I've seen other people talk about this a lot and I just want to know why. Did you guys just want an excuse to leave class?

This is a very serious question. I'm very tolerant of the lactose intolerant, I just need to know why.

Has anyone tried this Fairlife protein shake? It states it's lactose free but has milk. Not sure why, every time ive had it, it messes up my stomach as if i had something with lactose. Has anyone had a similar experience? I drank it in the morning to test it out. Ate very little before it, but still feel like im having this issue

Experience comparison

Milk things taste fine although Ive always preferred the plastic wrapped singles to real cheese slices. Lactaid doesn’t really work for me. Pizza, ice cream, cheesy pasta, coffee, recently chips, recently soda, have all caused me pain and long sits in the washroom. I’m cree so I think lactose intolerance is pretty common with us. Beef is starting to mess with me and I’m not a huge fan of birds or most forms of pork so Ive been real into beans n chickpeas lately, I feel noticeably energized since moving away from meat!

TMI section:
The pain in my guts seems to move around from below my belly button to under my ribs. I usually have to lean forward and right to put pressure on my right lower tummy with my thigh, and always get this urge to run my knuckles along my left upper/back ribs. My guts don’t even sound human lol but doing all that and deep breathing + holding my breath for more internal pressure seems to work to get things moving- when it’s bad and I’m sitting there for 20+ minutes I lowkey start losing my mind.
Ive only felt nauseous once and usually I’m just bloated and burpy. Alot of the times I feel sick for a long time after and have to lay down. I’ve dealt with acid reflux but it was more of a problem when I was younger (9-22 yrs old)

Just wondering if my experience is definition LI or something else, or if my super descriptive internal is helpful to anyone lol

social problems…

basically how do i get over the social problems i’m having ever since i became lactose intolerant. i’ve been dealing with this for a year now, i randomly became intolerant to lactose, eggs, and garlic all in the same month. i’ve also been vegetarian (technically pescatarian) for many years now. it has taken a while to figure out what to make to eat at home, but i still can’t figure out how to eat at restaurants or at other peoples’ homes. i live in a very small town and there are absolutely no vegan restaurants or cafes within an hour drive of me. the only place i can get food with people is at taco bell and a few local chinese and japanese restaurants. i’m scared to try new places because i’ll have to be a bother and ask about the ingredients in every dish. i already have anxiety problems and problems with eating in public so this new problem has stopped me from trying anything new. the holidays are also approaching and last year was absolutely miserable because i tried to just take lactaid and eat like i normally would before my problems and it did not work. i was in horrible pain (like 8/10, considered going to the hospital) and i had to leave early. i know i can bring my own dishes but nobody will touch them and i get judged by my own family for not eating their food that i know will make me sick. does anybody have advice? like what the hell do i do. ):

They started to add Milk in juice?

I generally use to buy some orange or apple juice, or just multi-fruit ones
But some months ago like 70% of flavors of different brands started to add milk to them, with the obvious "it gives more vitamins!", its like a new trend

Yeah, but no, i want juice without milk, now i have to buy big bottles, the small boxy ones where quite handy to take on my pocket or my car

groceryscanner for DACH Region

Hey everyone,
If you deal with food allergies, celiac disease, or intolerances, you know how exhausting grocery shopping can be—standing in the aisle squinting at microscopic ingredient lists, trying to spot hidden triggers.
I built a lightweight, ad-free iOS app for the DACH-region called CanI to make this hassle-free:
🟢🔴 Instant Visual Verdict: Point your camera at an ingredient list or barcode—the viewfinder turns Green(Safe) or Red (Trigger detected with an immediate alert badge like "Danger: Yeast Extract" or "Contains: Barley Malt") in under a second.

📶 100% Offline & Private: Text recognition runs entirely on-device via Apple Vision. No account needed, no telemetry, and zero lag—even in basement grocery stores with zero signal.

🔍 Smart Filters: Handles strict celiac warnings (including trace statements), histamine liberators vs. direct sources, dairy/lactose, and hidden additive names.

I’m currently searching a hand full of beta testers.

If you would like to join the journey, drop me a dm!

Has anyone tried Ninja’s Nutcase milk?

As someone who absolutely loves milk but hates all the unbearable stomach cramps that come the day after, I came across this on my feed. The “reduce cramping and bloating” immediately caught my attention. Has anyone ever tried this? I’d like a brutally honest review please :)

Can eat cream but not milk?

Hi all, bit of a random question but it’s basically as the title suggests. I was badly lactose intolerant as a teenager but now (mid-20s) I can eat ice cream, butter, even cream, without a single issue. However I had a splash of cows milk in my drink earlier and now seem to be suffering for it. Is this a thing? Is there a protein or a process that means I can eat all dairy apart from pure milk? Or should I be looking at other intolerances if this isn’t possible with LI?

Lactose free milk?

So I have lactose free milk with my cereal and if I make a chocolate milk. Would this still cause a terrible IBS flare? Also, how sensitive are you to dairy? Can it cause a flare that lasts on and off all day? Are you fine day one but then suffer day 4 or 5?

Delayed reaction?

I am keeping a food diary for my daughter for suspected food intolerance. We are waiting on a dietician appointment but it will probably be at least another month.

Her latest tummy troubles occurred 8 hours after a croissant and over 24 hours after a yogurt.

It's my understanding that lactose induced diarrhea would occur within a couple of hours. So I wonder if that means her intolerance is likely not to lactose?

Has I cream quality changed over the years?

Hello redditors,

I'm not lactose, I drink milk daily with protein shakes, coffee or even plain with my PB&J. But now lately I notice I get the runs with big Ice cream brands like blue bell. A good cup sends me running an hour later. So is it me or the quality of the ice cream?
