Announcement Updates in r/KoreaTravelBeauty

Hi, mod here. I wanna share some recent updates in r/KoreaTravelBeauty.

.

New Review System

The sub's review system has been revamped. I believe the new system is much simpler and more efficient. There are now 2 kinds of reviews:

  • Review
  • ✓ Mod Verified Review

People post with the "Review" flair, and if they send evidence (we ONLY accept a receipt or an itemized bill as evidence) via the Review Verification Form, mods will upgrade their flair.

I'm also nudging people to include these in their reviews:

  • How they chose the place
  • What they had done and what they paid
  • Anything they got for the review

I hope the sub gets way more high-quality reviews to make travelers' decisions easier.

.

2 Places to Ask

For beauty questions, where you ask depends on who you want to answer:

  1. If you want to ask fellow travelers, ask in r/KoreaTravelBeauty.
  2. If you want doctors to answer, go to Doctor Answers or the occasional AMA posts.

fyi, a dermatologist is doing an AMA right now. It's pinned in r/KoreaTravelBeauty if you have questions for a Korean dermatologist.

.

About Doctor Answers

I had to keep clinics, marketers, and staff out of the sub because there were FAR more fake reviews and marketers posing as travelers than you'd probably imagine. So I ended up applying really strict rules on the sub and made a separate space called Doctor Answers.

The idea is simple: travelers ask questions anonymously, and only verified doctors practicing in Korea can answer.

Doctor Answers is on the website that I've been making. It's completely free. It just started, so let's see how it goes.

Thanks!

Announcement KoreaTravel Guru's gotten a complete overhaul.

Hi! Mod here.

Some of you may have already noticed, but KoreaTravel Guru has been revamped from the ground up.

I've been working on this for a couple of months, and it's finally live.
Everything's MUCH faster, and the UI makes WAY more sense now.

I'd love for you guys to check it out, and if you guys have any thoughts, ideas, or even critiques, love to hear.

Also, I'm working on something else, and here's a little sneak peek:

https://koreatravel.guru/i/k7x2m9

The goal is to let people easily make/import itineraries, and share them on this sub to get feedback. It's not released yet though, just a preview for now.

If enough people publish their itineraries, there will be an itinerary browser so people can vote and find the best ones. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks!

p.s. if you're Korean/local, please vote for your favorite travel spots on the website. The more votes a place gets, the more often it'll show up to people.

Trip Report Spotted a fast moving creature from my room at Haeundae beach

I was checking out from my hotel at Haeundae beach and wanted to enjoy the view one last time. That’s when I spotted a black mass moving fast in the distant water. I managed to capture it on video. The fact that I could spot it with my naked eye meant it was quite large in size.

Since it seemed to be alone and very fast, I immediately thought “shark”. I informed the hotel staff (with the video) to seek advice if the local authority (coast guards etc) should be notified, but was told it was the norm in Busan.

Here’s the video I took. Whatever it was, it was heading inwards to Gwangalli beach.

Edit: I am told it’s a flock of birds. I don’t see these around my waters back home.

Hiked up to the Ganwoljae pass in the Yeongnam Alps today. In autumn, the vast ridgelines transform into an endless rolling sea of silver grass (eoksae) shimmering under the afternoon sun.

It is an incredible mountain landscape located between Ulsan and Yangsan in the southeast. Eating hot convenience-store ramyeon up at the summit rest stop while taking in this view is a seasonal must-do.

Itinerary Busan fireworks worth staying longer?

• Upvotes

Hi all,

I’m very briefly visiting the country for my first time (work related) and I arrive in Busan on 6th November. I depart the country from Seoul on 11th November. My idea is to have one night in Busan on the 6th, and then head to Seoul on the 7th for the rest of the trip. All the time is my own from the afternoon of the 6th until I leave.

Some of my colleagues are staying in Busan a bit longer for the fireworks festival on the 7th, so my main question is whether you all think it’s worth spending an extra day in Busan or just heading to Seoul as planned on the 7th?

I’m looking to book accommodation and plan visits etc, so I’d massively appreciate any input from anyone 🙏🏻

Money & Budget A Few Tips For Seoul

We’ve been here for about ten days now and have found that using the Climate Card saves a lot of money (Seoul lines 1-9 and city buses). One-time purchase fee of KRW 3000 $(2.25 currently) per card per person and load just it up for 1,2,3,5, or 7 days (consecutive beginning day of purchase); reload as you need. We used them for buses but the real value for us was using the subway…very simple and convenient. The stations and trains are clean, timely, and everywhere we wanted to go. Of course you will get in your steps so bring comfortable shoes. A steady supply of street food will keep you fueled up for any adventures you take! Additional thoughts: I recommend NAVER for planning your trip. Use GOOGLE to help you with the correct exits to use at the destination station (AI responses are hit or miss though so e mindful). Take a quick snap of the subway line stations so you can quickly check to confirm direction of travel or number of stops. Lastly I recommend using the MICHELIN GUIDE to find Bib Gourmand places that are budget friendly and delicious. You can copy paste addresses to your NAVER to help with walking directions. Have fun!

Itinerary First time in Korea – is Gyeongbokgung + Bukchon + Changdeokgung too much for one day? (mid/late November)

Hi there!

My wife and I are planning our first trip to Korea this November (15th–30th).

On our third day we want to rent some hanboks and visit Gyeongbokgung Palace. After that we were thinking of walking over to Bukchon Hanok Village and then finishing the day at Changdeokgung Palace (including the Secret Garden).

Do you guys think that’s too much for one day? We’re a bit worried it might feel rushed.

Also, mid-to-late November is supposed to be quite cold – would it be a bad idea to wear the hanbok for most of the day?

Any tips or experiences are really appreciated!

Other Speeding

I'm staying for a week in Jeju, have rented a car and drive around a lot. The speed limit is crazy low (80 km/h on the highway, 50 km/h elsewhere and even 30 km/h in a lot of places)!

There are speed cameras everywhere and yet I see quite a few cars going obviously way above the speed limit. What is going on?

Hi, we are a family of four. Two eat meat and other two do not. Is it possible to go to a KBBQ place that doesn't charge by person? I have heard good things about Yangtanjib.

We will be exploring the Insa-dong area, Myeong-dong, and Hongdae.

Itinerary 5th anniversary visit for 9 days. Need help with reviewing the itinerary and suggestions.

Hello, My husband and I are planning to visit Korea on our 5th anniversary. Need help with checking the itinerary and advice on open points.

Below is our detailed itinerary

21st 6.30pm - Arrival at Incheon and chekin hotel at Jongno Dongdaemun. Grab some dinner near hotel and explore neighbourhood. Question: How alive is the area for some late night strolling ~11.30 pm

22nd - Day trip to Suwon - Thinking to start a bit early by 7. Explore Hwaseong fortress and palace. Check some cafes and have famous Korean fried chicken. Get back to seoul around 5pm. Spend sunset at any han river park (Yeouido Park ?)

23rd - Visit Gyeongbokung Palace with hanbok rentals. Bukchon Hanok village, Gwangjang market. Cafe hopping in insadong/ikseodong and have lunch. We have the noon and evening free this day.

Need suggestion for shopping / color analysis- korean hair spa nearby or in another neighbourhood, have dinner and return to hotel. Another option we have is exploring Mangwon.

24th - KTX to Busan. Reach Busan and checkin by 1 pm.

Hotel is near the biff square in jung-gu area. Have lunch and head to huinnyeoul village, spend 2.30-5.30 pm there and get back around 6.30 and explore biff square, Gujke market, Bupyeong night market

25th - Plan to take the Haeundae sky capsule ride in the morning, Haeundae beach, visit Oryukdo skywalk and gamcheon village. May be if time is there visit Yongdusan park and have dinner nearby

26th - Leave for Jeju by flight at 12.25 pm. Checkin at 2 pm in Jeju, seosa ro fairly near to the airport. We have this afternoon until night - can we explore south of jeju or keep it light and just explore Dongmun market?

27th - Guided tour for East unesco highlights with Tangerine picking. Evening exploring the nearby night market.

28th - Casual morning and breakfast nearby. Leaving for seoul by flight 1.05 pm. Reaching Incheon at 3 pm and cheking into hotel at Myoengdong.

This is the only day we have for shopping. I would love to visit Olive Young for skincare, Daiso and Lotte Department store for some snacks shopping. I feel it's very less time, need some help out on how to plan this shopping evening. Also if we can do any shopping on 23rd as we might have an evening there.

29th - Flight back at 3 pm.

I need help mainly with taking the color analysis or spa and organising my shopping plan (23rd and 28th) as I don't want to regret not being able to shop before I return. Please suggest if any day is packed or any improvements can be made.

Also if there is any experience that we are missing out on and would light up our anniversary are most welcome.

Thank you in advance.

Activities & Events Is it too late to do outdoor/hiking/fall foliage from Nov 30 to Dec 9?

For Seoul, Jeju, or Busan...... It appears that I missed the window for fall foliage hiking in early/mid Nov. Is there anything else worthwhile to do outdoors? With there being less sunlight and 10C average in the day and 3C at night... I would be sad if all the outdoor stuff is closed. I usually like to exercise a bit before eating all the amazing foods :)

Food & Drink Is LA galbi hard to find?

Hi everyone!

My friend told me LA galbi isn't really a thing in Seoul. Maybe because I asked for a place with good quality meat and they don't know where to recommend? Good people of this sub, can you recommend a delicious place for LA galbi?

Itinerary Tips for solo camping/hiking getaway out of Seoul?

Just as I (F30) am adjusting to my new life in Seoul, I am a big nature lover and already craving a weekend escape to reset. Any ideas on where to go, anything from specific destinations, to retreat places/guesthouses/cabins are much appreciated. I am also down to camp if that is recommended for a younger solo female camper.

Itinerary City or Town Reco near Busan

I’ll be going to Busan this October 21. Are there any nearby cities or towns you would recommend visiting, aside from Gyeongju and Jeonju?
I’d especially love to visit somewhere with beautiful autumn foliage, preferably somewhere that is expected to be near peak foliage around that time. I’m already planning to visit Andong, so I’m looking for one or two other places that would be worth adding to my itinerary.
I’m open to smaller towns, mountain areas, temples, or scenic countryside destinations, as long as they’re reasonably accessible from Busan or Andong.
