Nothing hits the spot quite like a boiling stone pot of galbitang. Massive beef short ribs that fall right off the bone in a rich, clear broth packed with scallions. Served with warm rice, fresh kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and spicy chives. Pure comfort food in a bowl.

Soups and Jjigaes 🍲 Kimchi Jjigae (Tang) (with Pork Neckbones)

Scored a bunch of pork neck bones on sale so my wife made a huge pot of kimchi tang, a lighter version of kimchi jjigae. Broth is thinner than standard jjigae. Neck bone addition is awesome.

Much of the soup placed into containers for freezing.

I added yellow potato to mine.

Soups and Jjigaes 🍲 Clam sundubu jjigae, the only thing I want to eat now that it's getting cold

Post image
• Upvotes

Been craving this all week. Silky soft tofu, clams and big chunks of green onion in that spicy red broth, still bubbling in the ttukbaegi. The clams are what make it for me, they give the broth a sweet briny taste you don't really get with the pork version.

Team seafood or team pork? And do you crack an egg in or leave it as is?

questions Kimchi Pancake Fails and Tips

I initially tried to make kimchi pancakes via a stainless steel pan, but no matter what I tried, it still stuck. I then tried a cast iron skilled that was well seasoned, and it did work. The pancakes did brown/blacked nicely but issues were that

  1. the skillet was too heavy to do a proper flip (my fault for being greedy and getting a 12 inch) so when I did it with a spatula, the pancake fell apart.
  2. It just did not cook all the way through. The outside looked good, but the inside wasn't crisp and still seemed underdone. I cooked this on medium to medium high heat and with a decent amount of oil (the skillet was preheated on medium low for 4 min, completely coated by maybe 5-7 mm of oil, then more oil was added after turning the pancake over). I tried turning up the heat but that didn't work either. The oil might not seem like much, but I've seen youtube videos where they use less. The pancake was near paper thin and I have seen youtube videos where they successfully make thicker pancakes

The only thing I can think of is to improve my wrist strength so I can do a proper flip and use a crap ton of oil, which I am reluctant to do. If I must do the latter, how thick a layer do I need?

I see a lot of the posts in this sub are people enjoying Korean food in countries outside Korea.

I am curious, where to do most of the followers this sub live and what attracted them to Korean food.

Homemade Chwinamul rice with beef and seasoned chives (Umma)

Followed the recipe from Nam Soon Ahn and Sarah Ahn's Umma cookbook, right down to using their seasoned chives recipe. Obviously some kimchi on the side.

I have yet to successfully grow chwinamul but I intend to try again this spring. For now, I buy it dried. It's worth the prep time! My super picky eater 10 year old absolutely loves chwinamul in rice.

My Korean friend shared this picture. Apparently, the drink on the right is a type of traditional Korean alcohol, and the dish on the left is some kind of traditional Korean food. What are the names..anyone?

Snack Foods What are Korea's best snacks?

I run a small daily game where people guess which country a snack comes from using a few clues, and I’m choosing my next snacks from Korea. Korea is well known for having one of the best snack aisles in the world. What are some of the best Korean snacks, especially ones may not be as well known outside of Korea.

I’m looking for packaged snacks with a recognizable appearance that also taste great.

Are there any favourites you’d recommend?

I made jjinppang and wangmandu from scratch, from the filling to the dough. I didn't press out all the air bubbles, leaving the surface a bit uneven, but they came out super soft and fluffy.

Restaurants A full spread Korean set meal with fresh pot rice and spicy soft tofu stew [OC]

Post image

Enjoying a proper traditional table spread (hanjeongsik) today. Bubbling spicy soft tofu stew in the center, freshly cooked stone pot rice, tender boiled pork slices (bossam), grilled seasoned fish, japchae, and a whole table full of seasoned local side dishes.

Making scorched rice tea (sungnyung) at the end is always the best way to finish a meal like this.

Kimchee! In Korea, we can get food like this delivered right to our door 🤤🇰🇷

One thing I really miss about Korea is the food delivery!

This is Kimchi Jjim (김치찜), a Korean dish made with slow-cooked kimchi and pork.

In Korea, you can get meals like this delivered straight to your door, usually with rice and side dishes.

And the best part? You don’t even have to leave your house! 😂

I wish I could order this here in the US!

What’s one food you wish you could get delivered where you live?

questions NoBrand and Aniimo collab

I have heard this Nobrand has collab with Aniimo , I don’t live in South Korea so it would be cool if someone shared the code they don’t need with me so I can make use of it , thanks for taking time and reading my post

EDIT: I know I am asking for free stuff but I don’t understand why you gotta be rude about it , I didn’t ask them to go buy it for this code , I just asked if someone went and has a spare code
