I am incredibly inspired by this sweater and would like to make something similar but with different woodland creatures and wild flowers. Should I try to create intarsia patterns? Or, knit the sweater first then embroider over the stitches?

Discussion Odd question about blocking

Is the yarn that ultimately becomes blocked or the fabric? I just blocked a swatch and didn’t meet gauge. As I was unraveling it to try again, I was thinking is this yarn “blocked” now?

Help - equipment My first skein of reclaimed yarn!

I picked up a beautiful 100% cashmere sweater on a recent trip, and this is the skein from just one sleeve! I steamed it on my niddy noddy with a pot of water over the stove because I don't have my garment steamer at the moment 😅 I was wondering if anyone had any tips for helping the steam penetrate through all the layers, so that I don't end up with wrinkled spots like at the bottom. Also, if anyone has any pattern recommendations I'd love to hear them! I'd prefer something with color-work, to keep me entertained. It's fingering weight and I got about 326 yds from the one sleeve, so I'm expecting to reclaim somewhere around 1,500 yds total by the end.

I’ve been trucking on this for probably six months off and on but she’s done! This is my second sweater and I learned so much. Saddle shoulders, picking up stitches, I finally figured out the logic behind an Italian bind off. She’s absolutely my favorite sweater.

Yarn: Wander Luck Fibers American Merino Worsted in Gray Matilda and Isager Silk Mohair in color 47

Work in Progress How to fix neck bind off?

Thumbnail

How can I go back and fix the bind off that I chose for this neck liner?

I have seemed the shoulders and then I realized that the neck is too tight. The back panel I did use a stretchy bind off I believe I did the tubular bind off. But the front neck part must be too tight because I just did a normal bind off.

Am I able to fix it without undoing the seams? Probably not… I have already started trying to undo the neck line (blue stitch marker)

Discussion Help me find a scarf this shape to knit! It's a triangle scarf that sits nicely on the back and front

I am in love with the Damson Madder Jimmy jacket with the matching scarf. I thought maybe I would knit a scarf but I'm really struggling to find a pattern in the same shape.

It's triangle scarf with a notch for the neck.... Is there a name for this shape? I have attached a screenshot of a woman sewing the jacket and you can see the shape of the scarf on the floor behind her.

I can freestyle it but it would be nice to have a bit of a guide.

Thanks in advance!

My Favorite Vanilla Socks - The Unapologetic Knitter

I’ve ripped back three times because I kept making them too long. Finally made good progress on the toe and found out when I tried it on that I knitted the toe decreases in sideways lol

Yarn is mystery stash yarn! I do recall that I got it off of eBay but the listing is gone and it’s vanished from my purchase history. Sorry!

Work in Progress Self-drafted tabi slippers- perfect stash buster!

Like so many I had some left over drops snow from the sailor slipper craze… I knew I didn’t have enough for another pair of sailor slippers (at least in my size) so I self drafted these tabi slippers with a more open top and it used up what I had left almost perfectly! Only little scraps left! Very satisfying!! I hope they fit when I felt them… I have to wait for my roommate to finish his laundry!

Finished Object First time writing my own pattern!

Another pair off the needles (and right in time for Rhinebeck)! I've freehanded ribbed socks before but this time I wanted to challenge myself by trying to write up a full pattern of what I did. I didn't intend for this to become something to publish when I started but while working on this pair for my partner I realized I wanted one for myself and we have drastically different foot sizes so I graded the sock to multiple sizes and now I thought "why not share it".

Now I'm not expecting a 4x1 ribbed sock pattern to go viral or anything like that, but I liked the process of designing these, even as simple as they are, and I felt they had that little extra oomph with the toe detail to see if anyone else out there might have wanted to have a pair for themselves.

SO with all that said: These are my "To You Toes" Socks that feature a 4x1 rib that flows onto the tips of your toes! If anyone is interested and you can see my tester call in r/PatternTesting or a direct Link to Google Form.

I had a lot of fun with these and plan on continuing designing my socks to have the texture continue onto the toes. Not sure if this brief exploration into pattern writing will stick but I enjoy trying new things!

Here's a link to my full ravelry project. Yarn is Circulo Lucky Feet in the colorway Autumn which I am obsessed with.

Work in Progress to block or not to block?

Post image
13 Upvotes

ETA thank you for the feedback. I think I was using the wrong terms. I will block this sweater! Happy sweater weather, friends! 🍁

I did it!! I finished the cable knit SMOCKY CARDIGAN that I was on here considering frogging and I’m so glad I didn’t. Like most things I make it is chockablock with little errors and counting mistakes :) anyways it’s adorable on and it’s really rustic bouncy yarn and I don’t think I’m going to block it. (I don’t think I’m going to block it because everything is very boingy and bouncy and alive in the yarn and I’m worried it would go away if I block. . . That is my thinking.)However, I respect all of your wisdom, and would favor your thoughts. I’m waiting on some blue ceramic buttons to arrive so there’s no rush. In case you happen to see this.

I am just about to start on the crewneck part and I have 39 stitches on my needles so that whole thing with 23 rows in stockinette must be wrong right?

Help - equipment Help getting smelly spinning oils out of old coned yarn

I found a few old Harrisville Designs two ply yarn cones at a thrift store and the wool is in great condition and I would love to knit something with it. I have never worked with coned yarn before and I made a little gauge swatch and washed it with some dish soap and warm water (it probably could have been hotter) and soaked it twice. The yarn on the cone does not smell bad but my rinsed swatch smells terribly like old oil. I have not used any wool wash on it yet because I wasn't sure if I should use it before getting all the oils out. I was wondering if anyone has advice for how to get as much of the oils out as possible, or if it even is possible on yarn this old. Thank you!

Rave (like a rant, but in a good way) I’m an experienced crocheter, who just switched to knitting a month ago after years of intimidation and a new autoimmune diagnosis

So I’ve been wanting to learn how to knit for over a year now but kept getting frustrated every time I would try because it felt SO unnatural going from crochet to knitting. But last month I finally was DETERMINED to figure it out and I learned continental. As soon as I got continental down, I was ready to challenge myself to make my first project a cardigan. I had ordered this kit from wool and the gang over a year ago (idk anything about the knitting community so I apologize if there’s any controversy around that shop).

i thought that’d be the easiest way for me to learn, as it comes with the yarn and a written pattern so I didn’t have to scramble to find yarn for online patterns as I need to learn more in my knitting journey about good yarns.

I learned a LOT in this process, I YouTubed any stitch I was confused about because I went into it only knowing basic stockinette and the very first step in the pattern was the 1x1 ribbing on 3.5mm needles 🙃 I also figured out what I can do differently next time and what I like and don’t like in techniques

I am SO proud of this project and myself for finally committing to learning. This is helping me through a really difficult time with a new autoimmune diagnosis that I recently started treatment for.

I sharpened the images to help see the stitches since this yarn is mohair

The pattern and kit is the Piece Of Me cardigan from wool and the gang, and the yarn is their Take Care Mohair

Can we just take a moment to discuss these stitch markers I was looking at online? I actually laughed out loud when I saw how they were being used. Pretty sure it doesn’t work like that. But in all seriousness I hate the AI slop and how it feels particularly bad in this community

The pattern is https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fresco-lace-bodice-cardigan

The yarn is Kampes 2ply, a nice rustic wool yarn, it's a little bit prickly but I actually like that in a wool garment, it's weirdly cozy 😅

I fell in love with the yarn and ordered lots of it, so I'm thinking of weaving some fabric with this and some brown tweed to make a matching skirt.

The pattern was nice and clear without being too wordy. The yarn was possibly not the right one for the pattern, my swatch gave me another gauge, but I liked the fabric it made so I did some math and followed the pattern for a smaller size.

I also made it a bit more cropped than the pattern, to go with my homemade skirts that sit at my natural waist. It'll also be a really nice summer cardigan for those cold summer nights I think.

Hot off the needles! One Pic is unblocked and the other is blocked.

I knit this for myself in the smallest size since I get swamped by really huge clothing, and there is still tons of positive ease.

Yarn combo is Sandnes Garn Tynn Peer Gynt 2641 held with Filcolana Alva 101. I am very happy with the fabric!

Cheryl Mokhtori writes clear, detailed patterns. No modifications to the pattern, but I would possibly do a half-twisted rib if I were to do it again. My only complaint is how many times the instruction was to "break yarn" because it meant more ends to weave, hahaha.
