Question Curious about a way to edit skills

I'm hoping to find a way to edit skills and points in M/F/S. Is there a way to do it in like an ini file? I'm not sure about cheat engine as I don't know how to use it and don't trust my inability to properly and safely operate it. If anyone knows how to help, or knows a safe and reliable save editor that doesn't cause many crashes, I'd be all ears. Thank you!

Cheat engine works. Download, attach to process. Scan 4 bytes. Search for the value it gives like 3. Spend one, then search 2. Undo. Search 3. Spend twice search 1, undo search 3. Until you have just a value or two left. Then change that to what you want it to be. However Amalur has an exp cap easily reached and you might want to do other just because it feels crappy to not earn exp.

You can also use cheat engine to level down provided you don't hit level 50 before you want to do this to get more skill points/prevent exp from becoming useless (you'll cap out before you run out of content).

To do that search the level exp requirements on the wiki. Then add the remainder. Like say you hit lv 49 and were like oh no I'll hit 50 and experience wont mean nothing. You'd do this. Lv49= 4,097,500 total experience. You currently have 18 exp/ (next level) on your character screen. Add it. Search for 4097518. It'll give you the value. You'd change that down to say level 45's requirements 3,055,500. And then do the same for the level upon leveling up. Scan 49, then again upon moving around some, then 50. Ideally do this when you're a few hundred/thousand exp away from hitting the cap so you can scan the level value 49/50 quickly when you do this also. That way you can keep earning exp/ability points as you play. And there's enough content to cap to get like 20-30 extra levels with the 50 to 45 fall doing that. Especially because the Fatesworn gives you like 4-5 kinds of task exp for chaos silk and enemy drops and things like that.

What about the points for Might/Finesse/Sorcery? Do you max out in game normally?

156 ability points normally I think. 3 (you get 3 to start which is 1 in each). 0-1 counts and gives 3. So it's 51x3 +3. Even though the max level is 50, it's 51 entries you know.

If you go for tier 6 that requires 109 points for a purist. Which is a waste ability wise other than chasing tier 6. As far as stuff you'd want you'd be done around 80 I'd say in most branches.

Dang, not possible normally. So would cheat engine be able to fill the gaps?

Yes. You find it you could change the value to 999 if you want.

But if you're a do it at all kinda guy and do the exp level down trick you could get 60-90 points more while keeping exp a factor. Unless you wanted to level down to 1 or something in which case you'd get freaking oodles more as you'd be leveling back up all the time.

You can also drop one HussiC's mods that gives you the points in a natural progression. I've read cheat engine can brick your saves if not done appropriately.

Alternativly, there's a developer room that auto-levels you to 50 if you don't care about leveling. (I only recommend this if it's a very hard re-run for kicks and giggles, not a first timer thing.)

Modding KoA seems really sketchy, given a lot of the bugs people report. Does it brick backup saves?

It's actually not that bad with some recent mods from creaters.

Recommendations:

Mod Framework by crtzrms (This will run all the mods) Download and install per instructions. The framework will open a window in the background to run the mods while you play. Don't type in the framework or close it.

The following mods are some good QoL from HussiC:

Deep Pockets https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomsofamalurrereckoning/mods/77

Better Trainers https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomsofamalurrereckoning/mods/73

Reckoning Animations are cool (removes the need to button mash to save your device if handheld) https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomsofamalurrereckoning/mods/78

Ramping Speed (Best QoL IMHO) https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomsofamalurrereckoning/mods/72

Item Scaling https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomsofamalurrereckoning/mods/81

These are just a few that I've utilized that have made my experience more enjoyable.

Edit: (Explanation) The only for sure thing that I have read that bricks saves is the Cheat Engine. The Mod Framework works in the background using the games native processes to execute commands.
