Discussion Re-Reckoning

Post image

Wanted to get a new game, but not so much into souls-like games so asked CHATGPT what is a similar difficulty, combat, & exploration game to BOTW or TOTK.

Welp, this came up... I'll give it a whirl... Tips are welcome, thanks all

Honestly WILDLY different from BotW or TotK.

I tend to see it as more like a single player World of Warcraft, but imo with a much more fun combat system

Yeah it felt more like the sequel to fable we should have gotten. Its one of the games that got done in more by bad PR and the game console shift then by the game being bad. Came out in the era of FPS dominated era of consoles and no one (including myself) had heard of it. I found it in a discount bin and bought it. It was a fabulous game.

My friend once referred to it as is WoW, fable, and Skyrim had a baby

Its not like the zelda games at all. That being said, I love that game. I played it back one the xbox 360 abd then again on switch. Combat is great but not souls like. You can do fun combos with different weapons and spells and build you charate anyway you want. You'll love it Im sure.

Very different game, more like a very lite version of skyrim but with more actiony combat.

If you want a botw like id personally recommend fenix rising, also on switch

As I wrote in another comment. I once heard it referred as if WoW, fable and Skyrim had a baby

Hell of a fun game. Keep in mind that nearly every dungeon or cave is tied to a quest so it's worth picking up the quest before venturing in. Crafted chakrams are op and really fun

This is good to know lol I’ve been dabbling in finally immersing myself in this, rarely ever got past the first town area and those quests. I do like the atmosphere and music quite a bit.

8

u/LoremasterofPretzels Aug 29 '26

I have it on Xbox one and I recently started replaying it and yup……I’m already hooked 🤣

My tips are just explore and do quests as they come up, also get yourself the free(ish) house in Webwood, IIRC all you have to do is to complete a quest and as a reward you get a house. On my way to go find out if that’s true or not 😂

8

u/BisexualOreoByte90 Aug 30 '26

Tip for Webwood: Save before you get near that town. There's a very rare chance that the quest giver can be killed by enemies and I believe it locks you out of the questline.

4

u/LoremasterofPretzels Aug 30 '26

I had no clue that could happen but I for sure thought he was dead when I killed the last spider. He wasn’t but I had no idea that potential quest givers could die before you even start the quest. Btw do you know if you can fast travel to homes or is it just that you fast travel to the town or location where the home is located?

6

u/BisexualOreoByte90 Aug 30 '26

You can only fast travel to the town from my experience. But with Webwood you pretty much spawn right by the house anyways.

2

u/LoremasterofPretzels Aug 30 '26

Another quick question, when you sleep for 3 days does that respawn the enemies in the current region you’re in or is only the ones outside of the region that respawn? Also do you know how long certain dungeons respawn with enemies? Is it just random or is it like the overworld areas?

4

u/BisexualOreoByte90 Aug 30 '26

I've been curious of that as well. Dungeons may take longer or won't respawn at all and overworld takes 2-3 days.

3

u/LoremasterofPretzels Aug 30 '26

Thanks for the help.

2

u/Kittybrains2025 Aug 30 '26

Gossamer End is the name of the player house in Canneroc, Webwood. There are other players homes available that have their own fast-travel targets but they are not available until considerably later.

I recently got this game digitally as I'd never played the original. For $10 it feels like a gift. So much fun. I haven't gotten very far tho because I keep making new characters just to try different things out lol. Love the music too. I've literally just sat in the House of Ballads for like twenty minutes just for the song. I'd liken it more to Skyrim or Dark Souls than modern Zelda, but I like all three of those and also this game so I'm sure you will too.

2

u/Kittybrains2025 Aug 30 '26

The taverns in this game are a whole vibe. I've left the game unpaused just to hear the cups sliding, instruments, and laughter.

2

u/OoTgoated Aug 31 '26

Omg yes. The game has such great atmosphere honestly. It feels like a bona-fide DND campaign brought to life.

5

u/Catalysten Aug 29 '26

I'm having a good time with it. I can see the comparison, even though the games are quite different. They both feel... comfortable to play, I suppose.

Reminds me of Fable.

4

u/Jerryboy92 Aug 30 '26

A perfect switch game

4

u/EmjaytDaGreat Aug 30 '26

Chakras felblades your welcome

3

u/GoDrone-250611 Aug 30 '26

Very good game.. loved it

3

u/Feradon22 Aug 30 '26

Has nothing in common with the Zelda games, apart from being an RPG, so AI hallucinates bullshit again.

But Kingdoms of Amalur is indeed a great game, I would say it feels more like the old Fable games. If you play on a Switch 2 it has unfortunately a really bugged out skybox.

2

u/Time_Temporary6191 Aug 29 '26

Playing it now on switch 2 ans skyboxes are broken and its fine and annoying at the same time🤣🤣so many things can interupt you sometimes it just makes me rage

2

u/Original-Position-12 Aug 30 '26

I realy liked to get the physical copy but the sale in eshop realy low last week.

2

u/eshcroft8 Aug 30 '26

Never saw this cover art before, looks sick, it's my favourite RPG,cozy fantasy world with great gameplay. Hope you will enjoy your time with the game

2

u/Eezan Aug 30 '26

Love this game. I didn’t even know it existed until earlier this year. I bought it on sale then put over 100 hours in it haha. It reminds me of the first Fable.

Have fun! Save often!

2

u/Kittybrains2025 Aug 30 '26

Not all merchants sell the item "Backpack" which increases your inventory by 10 slots. So check every time you encounter a new merchant, and buy the Backpack, if they have 1. With 0 Mercantile skill, think they cost like 8,000 gold.

2

u/Corlinck Aug 30 '26

Kinda similar to Skyrim, but less complicated. With combat for example, in Skyrim you have one ability or weapon per hand or one two-handed weapon, and if you want to switch it's a lot of effort, but in KoA you have weapon sets essentially and separate abilities that you can specialize in (by leveling up, not by running aroung the world looking for people who sell the abilites), like I usually go for the sorcery branch (you can mix-and-match) and use a staff and two chakrams. I can assign the staff to one weapon set slot and the two chakrams (one item in the game, as with all dual weapons) to the other, then I just use different keys for the weapon sets (so it's easy to switch often during battle) and you can also assign abilities to the ability slots so you can cast between attacking. Great fun! Like Skyrim there's also a lot you can do in crafting and alchemy and stuff like that

2

u/Tremerefury Aug 30 '26

I had no idea this is on the switch. Guess I need to buy another version of it. 😁

2

u/kerouacdreaming42 Aug 31 '26

Honestly, one of my most favorite games. Weirdly, hands down the best surround sound mix of any PS5 game that I have. Gameplay is quick and engaging, equipment hunting is fun, enemies are just challenging enough. Honestly, just a solid game all around.

2

u/tuskel373 Jack of All Trades Aug 31 '26

It's not like a Zelda game, but more of an old-school RPG. People compare it to Fable (there were several high-profile people involved in making both Fable and KoA), or Skyrim (came out just a few months before KoA, but KoA is more colourful and magical)

By today's standards quite an old game, holds up fairly well. Graphics are actually still decent, music is amazing, and there are loads of little side quests that add flavour to the game. Has some unique weapons, like chakrams and fae blades. Also unique class system, you can switch what you want to play any time and mix and match different classes.

Some cons, inventory management is really quite bad by today's standards, and some of the quests don't get put in the correct place in the menu. Also there are many minor glitches, like with enemy respawns and stuff like that, but that's sort of to be expected from an older game.

2

u/groo79 Aug 31 '26

I really wanted to get this for my switch 2, the skybox glitch would have gotten to me though.

2

u/ProCommonSense Aug 31 '26

Love this game.. hate that re-reckoning didn't fix the bug that traps me at the beginning almost every time... not sure how I play it different than most but i have to run the beginning like 5 times before it doesn't break... had this on 360 in the original and then on the PC in the remaster.

1

u/Anonymous6172 Aug 31 '26

Really... What's the bug in case it happens to me...

2

u/ProCommonSense Aug 31 '26

Well, the whole intro is basically training. When you get to the first real boss... it instructs you to use the power move (forgot what it's called) to finish it off. It's the only way to kill it... but the power move simply doesn't "fire"... so I can't kill it... I used to have a video posted online... but I can't seem to find it now...

Just know that if you get to the power move finish on the big guy while still in the beginning and it doesn't go down... u kinda have to restart. fortunately it's only a few minutes in.

2

u/Timely-Buffalo-3384 Sep 01 '26

Its more akin to fable than any of those. But an amazing time none the less.

Make sure you have either a flame spell or a flame weapon on you to burn webs.

Don't hold off on using your fate ability, as it recharges quickly and gains you a larger chunk of XP in fights.

So good! If you’re looking for a gameplay guide I have some great tips in this (: it’s my favorite game of all time. Mostly everything can apply to any platform, not sure if there’s achievements for Nintendo though. Have fun! My personal favorite load is great sword and secondary chakrams! 😮‍💨❤️

No tips, just enjoy. I absolutely love this game. Amazing world design, lore and combat systems.

2

u/oceanbilly710 Sep 01 '26

It's a single player MMO. It's super fun, great combat, tons of lore.

2

u/LimpPPLenny Sep 01 '26

Careful if you are on Switch 2 - besides that, a great game - you will have a lot of hours of fun with it

Disagree. I'm most of the way through the game on the switch and it's been smooth as hell so far.

I'm at like 100 hours on my playthrough. No glitches or major bugs.

6

u/IAmAPirrrrate Aug 29 '26

disagree, even on switch 2 its not smooth; far, far from unplayable, but definitely noticeable, plus that irritating skybox glitch - but its a small price to pay for portability, so im fine with it. the only way you would consider it smooth on s/s2 is if you have no other frame of reference (which in my case have with ps4/ps5).

i would recon it also depends on your build and what weapons and abilities you use, since some require a bit of aimimg, in which case the small hiccups are definitely a kind of an hurdle.

1

u/Excellent-Fun5845 Aug 30 '26

Im playing right now and getting frame drops, so no not smooth but its playable on switch

2

u/floss-with-ass-hair Aug 29 '26

Hope you have got a switch 2, heard the skyboxes are still fucked up.

6

u/Joppy5100 Aug 29 '26

It's actually fine on Switch 1 and broken on Switch 2.

1

u/floss-with-ass-hair Aug 30 '26

Mistyped, my bad. Was at work when I wrote that lmao

I still can't believe they didn't fix it.

0

u/Anonymous6172 Aug 29 '26

I do. Idk what that means, but I'm assuming it has something to do with FPS?

1

u/PresentationLoose422 Aug 30 '26

The sky looks super glitchy on switch 2 to the point of being immersion breaking

2

u/SorcsGetNerfedLOL Sep 03 '26

It’s like a mix between Fable and Dragons Dogma. Great game and a good new DLC came out for it not too long ago.

1

u/Bredstikz Aug 29 '26

Hope you're not playing it on switch 2

1

u/Anonymous6172 Aug 29 '26

I am, why?

3

u/Joppy5100 Aug 29 '26

The way that Switch backwards compatibility works somehow broke most skyboxes on Switch 2, with no sign of an update.

0

u/Anonymous6172 Aug 29 '26

People, I KNOW it's not BOTW/TOTK... I REALIZE THAT.

I wasn't asking for that, I asked for SIMILAR difficulty/combat/exploration styles.

I was trying to get some kind of medieval setting with decent exploration & not frustratingly difficult combat

3

u/IAmAPirrrrate Aug 29 '26 edited Aug 30 '26

we got that and its not that. closest i would describe the gameplay style is like an hack'n'slay/darksiders/kinda-diablo-like/action-rpg. not even remotely i would think of botw/totk, so im honestly kinda intrigued how you got koa recommended.

but hey, the more the merrier

2

u/Snoo-50316 Aug 30 '26

Relax and just play it. Then you decide if you like it or not.

-3

u/TorquedGaming Aug 29 '26

Tip: Don’t ask ChatGPT for shit
Also this game is like the Skyrim of THQ. They just keep upscaling it and rereleasing it don’t they?

7

u/Joppy5100 Aug 29 '26

There has been one re-release of this game. It initially released on 360/ps3/pc, then it was remastered as Re-Reckoning on XB1/ps4/Switch/pc. It in no way is like Skyrim in that aspect. You're spot on about never using ChatGPT for anything though.

4

u/TorquedGaming Aug 29 '26

My bad. I thought this was another rerelease of it.

2

u/MacPio Aug 30 '26

Too bad they wont fix sky glitch on switch 2 then
