Discussion للنقاش Late 20s, decent career, nonexistent love life. Anyone else feeling stuck between wanting love and not finding it/ trying to afford marriage in Jordan?
I’m a guy in my late twenties, living in Amman, and lately I’ve been thinking a lot about relationships, marriage, and honestly, whether I’m falling behind in life.
I’ve spent most of my twenties focusing on my career, trying to become financially independent, and building a decent future for myself. I make around 1,200 JOD a month before deductions, which I know isn’t bad by Jordanian standards, but I also have a car payment of almost 300 JOD for 2 years, regular expenses, and I’m trying to save whatever I can but honestly im failing miserably.
And when I think about marriage, getting an apartment, furnishing it, wedding expenses, and everything else, I genuinely don’t understand how people our age are managing it.
But honestly, the financial side isn’t even what bothers me the most.
I’ve fallen in love twice in my life. Both times, I got rejected.
I don’t blame either of them. You can’t force someone to feel something they don’t. But I’m also not the type of person who develops feelings easily, so when it happens, it means a lot to me.
And sometimes I genuinely wonder what it’s like to have someone love you back. To have someone excited to see you, someone to talk to after a long day, someone who chooses you as much as you choose them.
I don’t want to get married just to say I’m married. I want to actually love the person I’m with and build something meaningful together. While i reached a conclusion based on what i see in society that the traditional way is the right way, i do not think i would be suitable, i feel too much of a "weird" person, idk how to explain it but thats not me plus my social circle is too small for such thing.
Meanwhile, life just keeps moving. Work, home, friends, sleep, repeat. Weeks turn into months, and suddenly another year has passed.
I see people around me getting engaged and married, and while I’m genuinely happy for them, I sometimes wonder if I’m missing something everyone else seems to have figured out.
And where do people even meet someone nowadays? University is behind us, work isn’t the right place, and social circles don’t suddenly expand as you get older.
Part of me thinks I should just focus on my career, earn more, pay off my car, save enough money while idk how i would do that, and worry about marriage later.
But another part of me is scared of that idea.
What if I reach my mid-thirties, financially comfortable, professionally successful, but still haven’t found anyone?
And what if I meet someone now? Am I financially ready to take that step? Or am I supposed to wait until everything is perfect?
I know I should be building my future for myself, and I am. But sometimes, especially when I’m alone at night, I can’t help wondering who I’ll eventually get to share that future with.
I’m not miserable, and I have things in my life I’m grateful for. But I’d be lying if I said the loneliness doesn’t get to me sometimes.
I guess I’m posting this because I want to hear from people in a similar situation, especially here in Jordan.
How are you dealing with rejection, loneliness, and the financial pressure of marriage? Are you waiting until you’re financially stable, or are you trying to find someone and figure things out together?
And for those who actually found someone, how did it happen?
I’m not looking for sympathy or the usual “just focus on yourself” advice. I’m genuinely curious about other people’s experiences, because sometimes it feels like I’m doing everything I can to build a good life, but I’m missing one of the most important parts of it.
