I’m launching a no-budget filmmaking YouTube channel, ThatRJBuckley. I’ve been a part of the film industry for over fifteen years and I eventually just got sick of the waiting waiting waiting. Waiting for agents, waiting for producers, waiting for investors. So after leaving Hollywood and moving back to the east coast I said screw it, picked up a camera, and shot my first feature. A few years later I shot my second. And now I’m hopping on YouTube to tell you all how I did it and how you can too.
The first video is up. It’s an intro to me, the channel, and the indie filmmaking problems of the day. My next vid will be a warts-and-all full breakdown of the budget of my first $7K feature. I've been saying for years, I feel like filmmakers don't talk about money enough. Well I'm gonna put my mouth where my money is.... or something.... Head on over and subscribe for all the behind the scenes goodness.

Alongside sharing my services, I’m happy to discuss the work in my portfolio and answer questions about my design process—from developing a concept and choosing typography to compositing images and preparing final artwork. If there’s a particular poster you’d like to know more about, ask away!
Filmmakers: what’s been your biggest challenge when developing a poster for your film?

I spent a Sunday morning making this short film about the the day a man gets released from prison. The match cutting was a fun thing to play with.
Do you think he got out of prison?

Hi everyone! I'm a student designing a product for film-goers as part of a school project, and I'd love to hear from people who actually go to the cinema or film festivals. It's a quick 2-minute anonymous survey about what's great and what's frustrating about the experience: https://forms.gle/5HNYS1zHgHzEsij58
Every response helps shape what I design. Feel free to share it with other film lovers. Thanks so much!

I made this short surreal parable ("The Bus That Goes Backwards") about nostalgia, time, and how easily we get trapped in memories. It’s an exploration of how hard it is to stop looking over our shoulders, even when we are finally walking forward on our own two feet.
I Really Do Need Feedback. The Bus That Moves Backwards (Time Paradox)
Note on AI usage: The concept and story are 99% original writing by me. AI tools were used solely for visual generation / audio narration.

It‘s honestly crazy to look at how things are moving right now. Usually, I have these passing thoughts like, 'I want to get my motorcycle license,' but then nothing really happens. But with this film project, I am 100% certain it’s going to work. This time, I am completely determined. I want to take this major step in my life and use it to build my very first foundation for my future career.
This time, things are already fully in motion. With the motorcycle license, I just practiced a little bit on some app, and that was it. But with this movie, I started casting people within the first week and convinced them to join. I’ve already started the screenplay, and I have the entire story locked in my head. I’m even ready to permanently show my face on Social Media Platforms to promote it—whereas before, because of my shyness, I only ever posted a few casual selfies on Instagram.
And here is the biggest difference: I am already deeply in it. I can't just stop now. I’ve already written sections, my crew is fully informed, and I am right on the verge of presenting myself to the public. You can’t just tell a whole group of people that a massive project is happening and then suddenly cancel it. Especially not with something this big.
I also think it’s incredibly cool how fast everything came together and how quickly it will progress. Early last year, I wrote a screenplay for a crime film, which I quickly put on the shelf. Not because I didn't want to make it, but because it didn't make sense at the time since it would require a massive budget. But that script is what sparked my initial drive.
Then last summer, I was involved in the big theater play at school alongside the guy who is now my lead actor. That’s where we really connected and found out that we both share the exact same passion and dreams for the film industry. And just recently at the train station—not even two weeks ago—we were talking, and he said with a shy, playful undertone: 'Hey, let's actually make a movie.'
The moment I got home, I immediately took action to turn my small idea of a gothic vampire silent film into a reality. And now I’m already so far ahead that I’m planning to deliver the final cut early the year after next. It is absolutely wild what is happening right now.

Hey r/indiefilm! I’m Gregory, writer and director of Meeting Your Maker. It follows Otis, a beloved TV puppet having an existential crisis just before his show’s 300th episode.
We’re currently on our Oscar run, and I wanted to share the trailer with you all.

The Appalachians have deep-rooted beliefs, whispered through generations. Locals pass down strict rules to their loved ones—taboos intended to keep the mountain’s ancient, hungry inhabitants at bay. They say the woods watch, they say the wind mimics, and they say that if you stray from the path or break a single vow, you invite something from the mountain. This is the story of one such invitation.

I'm 30 years old. I recently moved to New Westminster, BC from India. I'm extremely passionate about movies. I don't like Indian movies anymore.
I'm an amateur screenwriter. I wrote a thriller spec last year (a serial killer script like Se7en). Currently, I'm working on a micro-budget thriller that I actually want to direct (fingers crossed). I've also written two shorts. Everything's in script form. I wanna make something so passionate, beautiful... and haunting. RN, I'm all alone. I need a crew. Camera, sound, editing, actors... Could you guys guide me on how to connect with indie people? Any advice on how I should proceed with finding a crew to make a short or an indie?
Side note: I have a confession to make. From time to time, I think: am I too old to pursue this dream at this age? Did I waste my 20s? I definitely did. Also, trying to make a movie or start a film career in a country that is foreign to me-- is it far-fetched? Am I delusional?
