65 startups onboarded and I just made my first sale as an indie founder. Here's what I'm learning.
Hey everyone!
I've been building StartupsMap, a platform where people can discover startups, founders, and what they're building.
Over the past few weeks, I've onboarded around 65 startups. Some came through cold emails, some through outreach, and every new listing felt like a small win.
And recently, I made my first sale. 🎉
It's not a huge amount of money, but it feels different when someone actually pays for something you've built.
A few things I'm learning along the way:
- Don't wait for users to find you. I've been reaching out to founders directly, and cold emailing has worked better than I expected.
- Talk to users before building more features. Getting startups onboarded helped me understand what founders actually care about: visibility, discovery, and reaching the right audience.
- Distribution is as important as building. You can build a great product, but if nobody knows it exists, it doesn't matter much.
- Your first sale changes your mindset. It gives you a little confidence that this thing might actually work.
- Small wins compound. One founder, one listing, one conversation, one customer at a time.
I'm still figuring things out, and StartupsMap is far from where I want it to be.
But 65 startups and the first sale have given me enough motivation to keep going.
I'm curious about other indie founders here:
What was your first sale like, and what actually helped you get it?
Would love to learn from your experiences.
