Discussion Wooly Boi?

Adopted this boy 3 months ago. He was just turning 5 months old. He is now 8 months old. His little fringes around his ears puzzled me at first. Now the longer the rest of his coat grows I am figuring maybe he just has the wooly gene? Either way I'd like to do a DNA test if anybody has one they recommend. It doesn't really matter to me but I don't have an answer for people when they ask me if he is mixed with something. 😂 His name is Apollo 🫠

There's differences even between wooly coats. My mom has some wooolies that have a more dense coat and fluff out. Kinda defying gravity. Mine is a more long haired, silky texture.

I'm just glad Numa retained his waterproof factor, he hates being inside in the winter. The snow does not build up or stick to his coat.

Yeah that was the only part I was worried about. I read about snow being able to clump in the longer hairs.

This is something that will be on a dog by dog basis. Thankfully Numa does not have snow stick. He is just like my other huskies and I can just wipe him off when he comes inside after a snowy play session, or if he decides to Simply lay out in the snow in the winter, which he does like to do in the cold, then it doesn't Clump and falls right off when he shakes. There really is no way to check this until you get snow. This is especially important to us, because he and Pebbles love to pull the sled in the winter. The one drawback of the wooly coat is that if temperatures are anywhere north of 50°, I cannot hook him up to the bike or the sled at all, as he overheats incredibly quickly. He still has an undercoat, and it is dense.
