Adopted this boy 3 months ago. He was just turning 5 months old. He is now 8 months old. His little fringes around his ears puzzled me at first. Now the longer the rest of his coat grows I am figuring maybe he just has the wooly gene? Either way I'd like to do a DNA test if anybody has one they recommend. It doesn't really matter to me but I don't have an answer for people when they ask me if he is mixed with something. π His name is Apollo π«
It really is. He's ridiculously photogenic and I started nicknaming him Fabio after the first time I walked him on a windy day and watched the wind rippling through his hair just like... well... Fabio. The only downside is that his undercoat grows in SUPER THICK during the winter; even thicker than Nanuq's. That means April around here I literally have mats of hair hanging around when I try to brush them...
My poor abused trashcan... spot Nanuq's hair in there too;
LOL... yeah it's a South facing window and I leave the curtain open a lot during the day when I'm at work. They both love lazing up there (as I can tell from the amount of hair LOL)
And yes!! David Lee Roth fringes. Well put.
Side note; your pup is absolutely gorgeous! Might still be 100% Sibe. This is Odin who's a cousin of Nanuq and 100% Sibe;
Owned by a friend of mine... I puppy-sit when she's off running marathons or on business trips LOL.
Embark. He could be wooly, but my wooly boy had his long coat really start coming in around 1 year. His tail however, floofed out at like 6 months into a feather duster. Here he is at about a year old and he just has "long" hair, but not reqlly wooly.
Oh gosh. Very floofed out indeed. The face fluff is looking very similar but the rest of his coat isn't quite there. He turned 8 months on the 3rd so I guess we will find out soon. His tail is pretty close to that now.
There's differences even between wooly coats. My mom has some wooolies that have a more dense coat and fluff out. Kinda defying gravity. Mine is a more long haired, silky texture.
This is something that will be on a dog by dog basis. Thankfully Numa does not have snow stick. He is just like my other huskies and I can just wipe him off when he comes inside after a snowy play session, or if he decides to Simply lay out in the snow in the winter, which he does like to do in the cold, then it doesn't Clump and falls right off when he shakes. There really is no way to check this until you get snow. This is especially important to us, because he and Pebbles love to pull the sled in the winter. The one drawback of the wooly coat is that if temperatures are anywhere north of 50Β°, I cannot hook him up to the bike or the sled at all, as he overheats incredibly quickly. He still has an undercoat, and it is dense.
Interesting. I'm trying to learn more about them online but it seems like there is some bad information going around. Like with everything on the internet. π
Meet Timber. He has a similar thing going on with his ears, but maybe not as pronounced. I don't think he has the woolly gene, mostly because I haven't really had any problems brushing him. He is 100% Siberian Husky, we got him from Boulder humane society but his previous owners got him from a breeder, and we did the Embark DNA test and it came back 100% Siberian (His tail made me think he may be a Samoyed mix).
Anyway idk too much about genes. Apollo is a lovely name for a gorgeous dog and he looks happy and loved and very cute.
Timber looks like he definitely has the fluff on his face and tail! It also looks like he has his own couch all to himself. π Thank you. Apollo was already named when we got him and it seemed fitting.
