Greetings Hoggit!

Welcome to this week's Question thread. This thread has replaced the regular Tuesday Noob Questions thread. We encourage you to as all your questions here, as this will help us cut down on the number of repetitive posts we get on the front page! This thread is linked with the #questions channel on our Discord so that any time someone posts a new comment in here, it will be reviewed and replied to quickly! If you felt like you had a question but didn't want to bother people with it, now's your chance.

As always, we also have a discord for hoggit over at http://discord.gg/hoggit which you can use for chatting with other members of the hoggit community. And don't forget to check out our wiki at http://wiki.hoggitworld.com

Hoggit Training Server runs a training MP mission that runs 24/7 that's focuses on training up the newer folks (just like this weekly thread). Every DCS module is available in this mission, and there are numerous ranges to test your skills at. There are frequently knowledgeable folks around to answer any questions you might have, or show you how to do what it is you're looking to learn. Anyone can join, even if you've never stepped foot in a MP session before.

If you're interested in teaching/instructing at hoggit, please poke squinkys on Discord!

Server is be named Hoggit - Training Map. The password is hoggit1fw. SRS will be available at tnn.hoggitworld.com (it should autoconnect, but if not, use that). Come in, have a good time, learn a few things and teach a few things.

The only rule is Do not teamkill, unless the other party is a willing combatant...ie: you can dogfight if you find a partner...just don't shoot down some random A-10 trying to learn how to land.

Please review our FAQ on our wiki before posting here: https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/Frequently_Asked_Questions

DCS MRGO developer overview: finding physical cockpit controls without taking off VR

I'm MRGO's developer. MRGO addresses finding a physical keyboard, button box or panel while flying in VR.

This 60-second feature overview shows full passthrough, hand-tracked passthrough and configurable gesture-to-key bindings, including the DCS view-reset and salute examples in the UI.

It requires an external USB camera recognized by the PC and supports SteamVR and OpenXR; it does not access the headset's built-in cameras. MRGO is a paid product available on Steam.

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpwrwDn29Hk

I'd like to hear which physical cockpit controls are hardest to locate in VR and answer setup questions.

Less Jaggy Polygons Please...

• Upvotes

Now thats its 2026 just a polite request for less jaggy polygons in cockpits and external models moving forwards please. I can't speak for everyone but if a model has a poor finish that poor eyecandy can make the difference between a purchase or not. Yes its superficial but we all like our eyecandy. Now that we are entering a Golden Age of photo-realistic laser scanned photogrammetric modules and walkarounds, these details are going to be important moving forwards. Not naming names as lets face it, historically developers needed to reduce polygon counts, moving forwards lets keep the standard high, cheers.

NEWS AIR COMBAT LEGENDS - I wanted to share the Cold War combat flight game I’m working on

Post image
55 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share AIR COMBAT LEGENDS, a single-player Cold War combat flight game I’m working on.

It’s inspired by older PC sims like U.S. Navy Fighters, F-29 Retaliator and F-16 Combat Pilot.

I’m not trying to make a full study sim. The goal is something more accessible, but still with enough depth that aircraft choice, mission planning and what happens in the larger war actually matter.

The main focus is the dynamic campaign.

There are no fixed mission chains. Poland is the battlefield, and the player decides how to approach the war.

For example, you can:

  • send recon first to reveal targets
  • use F-14s to clear the skies
  • send F-16s to hunt SAMs
  • hit logistics or strategic targets
  • choose different aircraft depending on what you think is most important at that moment

You also manage pilots, and losses are permanent, so sending an experienced pilot or a valuable aircraft on a risky mission has consequences.

The current aircraft lineup includes the F-14, F-16, F/A-18, F-4, F-117, Tornado and SR-71, with more to come.

What I’m trying to capture is that old-school combat flight sim feeling where you could get into the action fairly quickly, but still feel like every sortie was part of a much bigger war.

I’d be really interested to hear what people here think about that approach.

Happy to answer any questions.

Sedlo's CF-18 Cold War Liveries Pack

Post image
60 Upvotes

Hey folks!

Just wanted to let you know that whilst waiting for the Cold War Map expansion to the Canadian bases at Baden Soellingen and Lahr, I've been working on some Cold War period CF-18 Liveries.

Now, there are a lot here. 7 squadrons, 3 liveries for each, options for nose serials or not, plus a special 409 bird, plus 3 other unmarked ones.

I've shared textures and linked them in the description.lua, so the file size is reduced. I've also structured it in a way that you can remove skins that you don't want/require, too.

These will be included with my CF-18 campaign that I'm working on. It's not 2 weeks, more like... maybe early next year? I am desperately waiting for Ugra's expansion to the Cold War map... If the previews are anything to go by, maybe it's soon to happen. Once that happens, things will start to happen quickly.

I've learned a lot about livery making in the process... My hat is off to the very talented folks that have posted skins to the user files. It's a lot, lot, lot of work!

You can download both parts and extract into your Saved Games/DCS folder.

And I'd like to hear any feedback you might have, too!

DCS Are the paid campaigns in DCS worth it?

I've owned quite a few modules throughout the years (F/A-18C, F-16C, A-10C II, KA-50) and most of them have some additional paid campaign separate from the module itself.

I've tried out few of the campaigns attached to a free and cheap modules like Su-25T and FC3 planes but they're a bit of a glorified tutorial for me, I wonder if the paid standalone ones are a jump in quality and such and if its worth my money.

TECH-SUPPORT SA342 FFB Trim Settings (moza ab6)

Just got my AB6 set up with my VPC Flanker, and was whipping the Gaz around. When I trim it (instant trim enabled) it tends to move pretty sporadically.

Is this a settings issue, DCS or Moza? Or just the fact that the Gaz is on life support.

how do u get CMD STRG highlighted in Viper ILS setup

As an example, I use the Free Flight Instant mission for the viper, and I set the ils kutaisi frequency, press ENTR, then I press the M button the EHSI to get to the PLS NAV page, then I set the magnetic heading for the runway and press ENTR (can also be set using course knob on EHSI). And at some distance close to kutaisi runway, the CMD STRG text is supposed to get highlighted, meaning the viper ils radio has picked up the ils beacon signal. But that never happens and the ILS needles never move. What do I need to do differently. Any help will be appreciated.

DISCUSSION Su-57 vs F-18c

Some tried to argue the F-18c would have good chances against a Su-57 because its turn rate? I’m new but, there’s no way that’d be the deciding factor right?

AirReaper Tactical VR Suite (DCS MT / Falcon BMS) — Technical Preview & Dev Briefing

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a sneak peek at an independent software tool I’ve been developing for the combat flight sim community called AirReaper Tactical VR Suite.

First things first: this is not available for general download yet. We are currently in closed testing across dedicated simulation test rigs to validate stability before opening public flight waves.

However, I’ve just published the technical architecture briefing and benchmark comparison graphs on our website, and I would love to get community feedback from pilots running VR:

👉 Technical Briefing & Benchmarks: https://kilobitsoftware.co.uk/flight-simulation.html

What problem is this tackling?

For anyone running VR in DCS World (especially high-res DisplayPort headsets like the Pimax Crystal, Reverb G2, Bigscreen Beyond, or Aero), carrier flight decks and busy multiplayer superstructures can cause frametime jitter and 1% lows.

AirReaper is engineered to eliminate micro-stutters through automated hardware optimization:

• AMD 3D V-Cache CCD Affinity Locking: Pinning critical flight rendering threads to cache-rich cores.

• Intel Hybrid P/E Core Offloading: Keeping low-priority background OS tasks off your primary performance cores.

• MMCSS Real-Time Priority: Elevating simulator frame delivery to deterministic Windows audio/game clock priority.

• Native OpenXR & QuadViews Integration: Clean foveated rendering tuning without manual config edits or risking server IC checks.

If you’d like to see the benchmark frametime curves or pre-register your callsign for the upcoming closed beta test wave, the briefing page is live above.

I’d love to hear your thoughts: What headset/GPU combo are you currently flying with, and where do you experience your worst frametime drops in DCS?

Check six and fly safe,

Lieutenant Brendan "Airreaper" O'Brien

QUESTION How 2 SEAD

Hey y'all, I've seen a lot of videos of people running SEAD/DEAD and it looked pretty fun. I'm a tried and true ground pounder with things like the Su-25/T, AJS-37, F-100D, etc. so I've never really been in heavy SAM contested airspace other than things like the SA-8 or SA-13.

This morning I tried doing some SEAD in the JF-17 and Su-25T (Ik, probably not the best things for it... but I don't own the F-16CM or F/A-18C) and I'm struggling really hard. I can get locks and fire fine but out of the good 70 or so missiles I've probably fired I've hit exactly three of them... the rest have either just missed or gotten intercepted. My latest for example I was in the JF-17 with the LD-10s and all four failed to connect from a 20nm firing distance, two where intercepted by an SA-10 site and the other two somehow stalled despite me being at a decent altitude (25,000ft) and at around Mach 1. I read the LD-10s have a near 40nm range at average cruising alt and speed so idk what is going on with them.

Am I doing something wrong or do the JF-17 and Su-25T just genuinely suck that bad at SEAD?

DISCUSSION what does everyone play now?

I purchased IL2Korea, and while good it seems like generally considered a flop in the community with not many people on at a random given time. that being said what game has the most active community flight sim wise?

Home cockpit design help

Hey guys, I've recently gotten into 3d modeling with CAD software (Fusion 360) and I wanted to make use of my new hobby and go ahead and make a semi-realistic cockpit for the JF-17 for DCS.

I've found the ModelViewer2 app and I've taken screenshots of all the panels that I want to recreate, but I haven't found a way to calibrate them to the real life counterparts. Do you have any tips or any dimensions (rough is fine, this is a fun build, not a pro one) that I could use to calibrate the screenshots and make the parts fit in with each other?
