Integrations Connect Hermes to Assist in Home Assistant, and she’s an action button push away from your iPhone. With Voice!!!

I’m not sure why I didn’t think of this sooner. But you can use the extended open AI conversation integration and connect Hermes to your home assistant as an voice assistant, from there, with the Home Assistant iOS app, you can map a shortcut to the action button on your iPhone and basically always have push to talk with your agent. While the assist screen’s up, if she doesn’t respond with a question and keep listening again, just hold the action button. It’s been game changing for which “I want Hermes to ___” thoughts. I pull out my phone, hit the button and boom, done.

Edit: The emotion tags are so the eleven labs V4 model responds very expressively. Quite the nice touch.

Discussion What's the point of having both Profile and Bot mode in Hermes?

I’m new to Hermes and using the desktop app. I don't understand why the Sessions tab exists, the one where you select a profile to start a session and can switch profiles whenever you want. Meanwhile, in the Bot tab, you can do the exact same thing by picking a bot to chat with.

I understand the conceptual difference between a bot and a profile: a bot is like a concrete instance of a profile, where every bot belongs to a specific profile, but a profile doesn't always need a bot.

My question is about real-world usage: In what scenarios would you chat with a profile directly vs. using bot mode? Doesn't keeping profile-based session chats around cause confusion? Why not just stick to bot mode exclusively (like Grokbot)?

I'd love to hear your best practices for using both modes. Once you start using Bot mode, do you still use Session chats under profiles at all? How do you personally use each mode in your daily workflow?

MEMORY & Context — Providers, context window, forgetting issues Obsidian, Hindsight, Honcho: what are you using for memory with Hermes?

I’m currently using Obsidian with Hermes, but I’m curious how other people are approaching memory and whether I should try something different.

I’d love to hear from people using Hindsight, Honcho, or another setup, especially if you’ve tried more than one.

• What made you choose your current setup?
• Where does it help most in everyday use?
• What limitations or frustrations have you run into?
• If you switched, what actually improved?

I’m especially interested in how reliably Hermes brings back the right information across sessions, and how much effort it takes to keep that information useful as it grows. Setup complexity, cost, and privacy matter too.

Also curious whether you use these tools together for different purposes rather than choosing just one.

Is there a clear favorite for Hermes, or does the best fit mostly depend on what you want it to remember? Concrete examples of what worked, or didn’t, would be really helpful.

Discussion Hot take: don't bother with "proper settings" if you are a noob

You do not need to set up memory system, auxiliary orchestration or different profiles. Just plug in a cheap model (deepseek is retarded, doesnt matter) and do stuff. If you need to modify Hermes ask Hermes to do it.

Don't wait till you have time to set everything up properly. Hundreds die in "good or nothing" purgatory.

It will work suboptimal, but who cares. It's easy to burn out chasing the best setup.

Learn on the job.

PS: tinkering is useful and fun and i love doing it myself. Just don't mistake tree for a forest.
PPS: people exaggerate their efficiency and overengeneer stuff.

Use Case — Real tasks, business & personal How to save hundreds of $$$ on travel with your Hermes agent

  1. If you book a hotel with free cancellation, the price can still drop after you book. Tell Hermes to set a cron job that checks the same room every morning until the free cancellation ends and sends you a Telegram message if it's cheaper, then you just book the new one and cancel the old one. Hotel prices move way more than people think, I've seen the same room jump 60% in 3 days, so it goes both ways.

  2. If you book direct with Marriott or Hilton, have Hermes look for the same room cheaper somewhere else a few times in the first 24 hours. They both have a best rate guarantee, if another site has the exact same room, dates and cancellation rules for more than 1% cheaper, they give you that price AND another 25% off. Nobody does it coz you'd have to keep checking 10 sites for a whole day, but a cron job doesn't care. Hilton updated their rules in August so the cheaper price has to still be bookable when they check it and app-only prices don't count.

  3. On the day you fly give it your flight number and let it watch it. If you're flying from the EU and land 3+ hours late you get €250-600 depending on distance, and in the US if it's cancelled or delayed 3+ hours and you don't take the rebooking you get your money back, and they'll try to give you a voucher instead. Hermes tells you before you agree to anything at the gate and writes the claim.

For the prices it needs some tool to get real hotel and flight offers to not burn time and tokens on browser use. I'd suggest LetsFG from the official hermes catalog, but you can use any other that you find.

Enjoy :) if you use Hermes for something like this drop it in the comments

I had my entire self hosted pipeline produce this for me. Started the project 4 days ago wondering if I could get it done with Qwen3.8:27b nvfp4 at the wheel for orchestration and a p100 16gb to use as auxiliary/hot swap.

I gotta say. I'm not disappointed with my ai slop factory side project. I like history and ww2 so... why not.

Showcase Hermes Redde 1.8, Now with Phone Tools

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I never would have thought my little indy app would have over 700 downloads in its first month, Thank you!

And a special thank you to those who have 'bought me a coffee'!!

Redde is a free iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and CarPlay app for your own

Hermes agent (iOS 26 or later). 1.8 is out today. The headline is Phone

tools: your agent can use what is on your iPhone, if you let it. The

video is a day of it.

  Introducing Phone tools

Ever wish you could control your phone with Hermes?

  - Calendar and reminders "What's on tomorrow, and remind me to call

the vet at 4": it looks up your events and adds the reminder.

  - Contacts It can look someone up. It can't change them.

  - Photos Find a photo by its date or by what it shows ("the bowling

scoreboard"). Your iPhone looks through its own pictures; the agent

hears about the ones that match and gets a photo only when it asks to

  look at one.

  - Files A folder in the Files app that it can read and save to.

  - Alarms and timers "Wake me at 6:30", "a 12-minute timer for the

pasta": real iOS alarms that count down on the Lock Screen and ring.

  - A widget it writes on Add "From Your Agent" to your Home Screen

or Lock Screen and your agent can leave you a line there. If your phone

is paired for notifications, it can write on it while Redde is closed.

  - Calls and texts "Call the vet", "text Dana I'm running late". iOS

asks before a call goes out, and a text opens in Messages for you to

send. Redde never sends anything by itself.

  - You decide Every area is off until you turn it on. Adding,

changing and deleting always ask you first, and deleting photos is asked

by iOS with the photos shown.

  - What it reads goes to your own server and nowhere else. It needs

Redde's plugin on your Hermes (the Phone tools screen installs or

updates it) and the Hermes Dashboard login, and it works while Redde is

open. It can't reach into other apps: iOS allows no app that.

  Also in 1.8

  - Show it Turn on the camera in voice mode and ask about what's in

front of you; each question goes with a picture of that moment.

  - Approve out loud, or with a nod Redde reads out a command that is

waiting for your approval and listens for "approve" or "deny", in voice

mode and in the car. With AirPods Pro, AirPods Max or AirPods 3 or

later, nod to approve or shake your head to deny.

  - Take a note "Hey Siri, take a note in Redde", a Control Center

control, the Action Button, or the car's screen. Your agent files it and

nothing is read back. Offline, the note waits and goes when it can.

  - In the car Stop and Pause on the voice screen, short answers for

questions asked by voice, and four looks for the voice screen.

  - Task progress on the Lock Screen for longer jobs.

  - **Pictures together**, with a full-screen viewer: swipe, pinch,

  double-tap.

  - Fixes Tapping a notification no longer closes the app, Thinking

folds away while a reply is still coming, and "Jump to latest" goes away

once you are back at the end of a conversation.

  1.7.1, since the last post

  - Voice on iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd generation), which don't have

  Apple's newer speech recognition.

  - CarPlay cards in color, with more looks to pick from.

  - Sound files your agent sends play in the conversation.

  App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/hermes-redde/id6810900557

  Feedback and bug reports welcome.

Discussion — General thoughts, opinions, comparisons Hermes sessions should be able to send messages to each other. Every other harness does this already, and its holding Hermes back.

Hermes power user here!

Users are either running Hermes session-first, or "bot" (aka Profile)-first. The former is how Muse operates, one bot, multiple chat sessions. The latter is how Grok bot operates.

Personally, I find multiple bots unecessary, since I just want to deal with one agent that has the same access across all my workstreams, but Hermes Bot mode has one advantage that session mode does not: Bots can message each other. At this moment in time, Sessions can't message each other.

This is possible in competing harnesses like Codex, where you can create a "Coordinator" session that handles most of your discussion, and can send prompts to other sessions to organize your work better. The Chief of Staff model becomes possible with this functionality.

This is the major feature holding back Hermes right now.

There are a few feature requests for this, but no movement. Does anyone else agree?

Community Hermes Doctprpack

Post image
• Upvotes

Doctorpack, a local diagnostics plugin for Hermes Agent. Its community catalog entry was just merged upstream.

It is for situations where Hermes is running, but config, plugin state and recent logs need to be examined together. It provides:

- Configuration audit, including approval/redaction settings and plugin conflicts

- Plugin-state checks and recent log evidence

- Local Markdown incident postmortems

Findings include severity, confidence, evidence and recommendations. Missing evidence stays unknown rather than being marked healthy or broken. Log matches are not treated as proof of a root cause.

It complements hermes doctor, plugins list and the raw logs, rather than replacing them. There are no runtime network calls or telemetry.

Install from the catalog: `hermes plugins install doctorpack`

Showcase Introducing Hermes Deck, an agent orchestrator

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I run hermes agent all day and got tired of juggling terminals, telegram and logs to see what my agents were doing.

so i built hermes deck. watch them think live, approve stuff from one inbox, steer sub-agents, and take over their browser when you need to.

free, open source, MIT. windows + mac. Ios app wip.

I have to say, I built this around my own setup, so expect rough edges.

Guide — Tutorials, walkthroughs, repeatable how-tos Definitive Guide to Using Claude Sub w/ Hermes.

Yes, you can use a Claude Subscription with Hermes. Must be Pro or Max.

  1. Make sure Hermes is updated to the most recent version. "hermes update"
  2. "hermes model"
  3. Choose Anthropic - Authentication Method 1 (Claude Pro/Max subscription (OAuth login)
  4. Link Claude Sub in Browser
  5. Once linked -use the oauth token presented and substitute after the "="

" echo 'ANTHROPIC_TOKEN=sk-ant-oat01-...your-token...' >> ~/.hermes/.env"

  1. Use Hermes agent as you see fit.

Last two steps may note be necessary unless you are using Discord/TG for chat.

Happy building!

Workflow — Daily habits, multi-agent setups, best practices Attempts to avoid Hermes becoming a security nightmare

I've been trying to harden my local Hermes installation on my daily driver Linux PC as follows:

Dedicated user account. Hermes runs as a "hermes" user with its home at /home/hermes, separate from my personal user account. The hermes user account has no sudo rights.

Shared workspace, not shared home. Any files created by or needed by the agent goes to /home/hermes/workspace, owned by a "hermes" group that both accounts (my personal user and the hermes user) belong to. It uses the setgid bit and a default ACL so new files stay accessible to both.

Manual approvals. I've set command approval to manual so that I can review every prompt.

Gateway disabled. For now, I don't need to use Telegram etc. with Hermes, especially as I've only recently started kicking the tyres on this thing and want to first familiarise myself with desktop use. So I stopped and disabled the systemd unit for the messaging gateway.

TUI instead of desktop app

Due to the restrictions I've placed on the hermes user, running `hermes desktop` successfully installed the app but failed to launch due to the user not having access to the X session. Claude has helped by pointing out some of the risks involved and it pointed out that running the desktop app as the hermes account would let the agent see and inject input into my X session, which was discouraged, so I'm now just using the TUI instead. I do like the TUI but am also gutted I can't find a way to securely use the desktop app as a locked down user.

Residual risk: Potential for prompt injection. Even with all this, the agent still acts on text it reads. If it fetches a web page or processes a document with hidden instructions, it may follow them, and the approval prompt (approval set to manual) is only as good as my attention and experience when reviewing it.

I'd appreciate thoughts and suggestions related to the above setup.

What are some effective methods for reducing the prompt injection risk?

I'd also be interested to know if anyone got the desktop app working safely somehow. For example, Claude suggested I try a nested X server like Xephyr, rather than sharing the main display.

Workflow — Daily habits, multi-agent setups, best practices Bought Mac Mini for 24/7. Transferring Hermes from laptop, but now wondering how best to structure the new setup first.

My toss up:

  1. Copy Hermes files over from iCloud, run Hermes as I currently do--sharing my machine with it.

  2. Create a separate iCloud/iMessage for Hermes, let him takeover the Mini for himself.

  3. Create a separate profile for Hermes. Segregate him.

  4. Other.

What was planned as a simple execution (#1) now has me pondering this step too much to ensure I start things the correct way. Meanwhile the Mini is still in it's box, lol.

Anyone done this and have any firm opinions one way or the other? (Will run basic local LLMs)

Thank you

Showcase Vory 1.5: a native iPhone, iPad and Mac app for Hermes, now smoother everywhere

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been building Vory, a native iPhone, iPad and Mac app for your Hermes agent gateway. 1.5 is out on TestFlight today, and this release is all about how it feels.

Performance was the main focus

  • Smoother everywhere at up to 120 Hz: scrolling, the keyboard, opening pages and replies as they stream.
  • Idle screens now sit near zero CPU. On the Mac, Settings at rest went from 23% to under 1%.
  • Much less work while Vory is in the background, and if iOS closes it, it reopens the chat you had open.
  • Very long replies, reasoning and code no longer show as an empty box, with Show all for the full text.

What else is new

  • Bots that move. A working bot shows its mood, closes its eyes when it's done, and blinks at rest. Only a working bot animates, so idle bots cost no battery.
  • A new message bar. It's a card now, with attachments, / commands and @ mentions inside it, plus a ring showing how full the chat's context is. New Message uses the same bar.
  • A top bar that morphs between pages and follows your finger when you swipe back.
  • Bots can have their own name and title.
  • A backup address per gateway, so it works at home and away (local network, Tailscale or Cloudflare Tunnel).
  • iPad and iPhone Duo layouts. Duo support is day one, with more in development.

What it is, if you haven't seen it

Vory connects to a Hermes gateway you run yourself. Your agents show up as bots you can chat with, and with the small Vory Companion installed on the gateway you get real push notifications, Live Activities while a bot works, and approval cards you can answer from the Lock Screen. No account and no middleman cloud. It's open source.

Feedback very welcome, here or in the issues.

Help — Technical issues, errors, config, debugging How to reduce server load, when running multiple profiles + telegram gateways (on a LAN behind a dyn IP / NAT router)?

Hi,

I'm running Hermes on a few years old laptop and it works great with 2 - 3 profiles.

Now, I've tested and added ca. 10 profiles, all with Telegram bots.

Nothing much it happening on the Hermes side of things. Users only use it occasionally.
But the gateway / polling mechanism seems to be causing a high server load.

Is there an option to reduce polling?
Ideally, throttle it to very slow over night and then go back to standard / almost standard at the daytime?

Hey all!

bighelp, my free and open-source Hermes app, is now officially live on the App Store!

If you were on the TestFlight, thank you. A lot of what is in the app now came straight from your comments and bug reports here. We’re at over 1,000 users!

If you are new: bighelp is an app for Hermes, focused on bringing functional parity to a mobile experience.

You can chat, use voice, run workflows, get alerts, and keep up with your agents from your phone. It works with most configurations from local/Tailscale, to Cloudflare tunnels, Nous Portal, and many other scenarios.

The app supports both a Chat mode to bring a more consumer-focused Bot experience, and an IDE mode focused on running dedicated coding sessions across your projects and managing your coding sessions from a single pane of glass.

Still 100% free and 100% open source. No account, no subscription.

Help Is Hermes actually worth it - Am I over-engineering my workflow??

I’m an electrical engineering student using LLMs mostly for math, coursework, and occasional Python scripting. I don't do heavy software development. Up until now, free-tier ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude handled 100% of my needs for $0.

I recently set up Hermes on a paid VPS with OpenRouter (using DeepSeek v4.1 Flash). The persistent memory and agent skills sounded awesome, but token consumption is insane. My API bills are piling up, and it looks like I'll be spending $15–$20/month on top of server costs.

People suggest turning off skills or limiting memory, but memory and autonomous skills are the exact reasons I wanted Hermes in the first place. If I have to strip those features away, it feels like I'm just paying extra to do things I used to do for free. For basic automations, n8n feels like it might be a cheaper, cleaner fit.

For simple daily tasks and light automation, am I just over-engineering a simple workflow? Am I missing a crucial optimization step with Hermes, or is an always-on AI agent just overkill for my use case?

Discussion a store build by AI agents also made for AI agents to read. Dumb idea? lol

My agents hunt deals for me but product pages keep tripping them up. Everything's built for human eyes. JS everywhere, specs buried in images, marketing fluff hiding the real numbers. So I'm thinking of flipping it. A store built AI first. Clean specs, no fluff, easy for an agent to parse in one go. Humans can still browse it fine.Worth building or am I overthinking? If your agents shop for you, what's the most annoying part?
