Posting Desktop web: What are Reddit’s rules for sharing your own startup?

I’m using Reddit in Safari on a Mac. I’m new to sharing my own work here and have been trying to post about my startup launch.

I want to understand how Reddit treats self-promotion. If a community allows launch posts, are there separate sitewide guidelines I should follow for my account, posting frequency or links?

Where can I find the official guidance so I can participate properly?

Each sub has their own rules. Reddit's own rules don't really have anything saying you can't promote yourself so long as it's not outright spam, but individual subs are different. What they say goes within those subs and if they have a ban on self promotion and you try, they're not gonna take too kindly to it. Just .ake sure you read the sub rules and if you have any questions, you can always message the sub mods as well.

Yeah I do know about the rules and I check them out before posting but still it gets removed by Reddit filter no matter how I write the post

Sorry, didn't actually look at your account first.

You're encountering new user restrictions which are meant to combat bots and spam. Unfortunately they penalize actual users too. You'll need to build your karma and raise your CQS first. Head on over to r/NewtoReddit for guides on how to use the site as well as a list of subs formerly to new users. Browse that list and participate in some that pique your interest. Pet subs are generally pretty safe for new users as well.

Posting tends to be far more restricted as a new user, so I would focus on commenting for the time being. Some subs even require a certain amount of comment karma before they let you post in them.

As an aside, this is just a warning and not an accusation. Never ask for karma or upvotes. Doing so violates site TOS and can lead to a sitewide ban from reddit.

Doesn't it give you a message saying why it was removed?

A great many subreddits remove submissions made by new users and those with a low karma score. /r/NewToReddit has a list of low karma friendly subreddits that should get you started.

No user on Reddit can spam.

You can read how Reddit defines spam here:

Spam – Reddit Help

Reddit Rules, including on Spam, apply to the entire site.

Subreddits can set their own rules strictier than what the site has. Many will prohibit self promotion entirely. Culturally, Redditors come here to interact with people, not to have a tin can rattled in front of our digital faces.

To understand how Reddit treats self-promotion for your startup launch, you should follow both the sitewide Reddit Rules and the specific rules of each community you engage with.

Regarding self-promotion and linking to your business:

  • If your contributions to Reddit consist primarily of links to a business you run, own, or otherwise benefit from, be thoughtful about the frequency of posting. You may also consider advertising opportunities using Reddit's self-serve platform.
  • To avoid being labeled as a spammer, post authentic content into communities where you have a personal interest.
  • Community moderators determine what constitutes unwanted or spammy content in their communities and may take action accordingly. If you are unsure whether your content is considered spam, check the specific rules of the community you want to engage with or contact its moderators for clarification.

Promotions, in the context of Reddit's official guidelines, refer specifically to contests, sweepstakes, and lotteries, which typically involve giving away free items or asking users to perform activities to win prizes.

Most subreddits don't allow adverts/promotion/spam. It's generally hated on Reddit.

Some subreddits won't let you post or comment until you've got a bit of experience.

Make friendly helpful comments on some new-user-friendly subreddits.

Comment on some existing discussions, rather than posting new ones.

For example, r/CasualConversation r/MadeMeSmile r/NoStupidQuestions

And especially r/NewToReddit
