Discussion What is the deal with Pumpkin Patches charging insane prices to get in?

Halloween is just around the corner, and although it started (at some patches) a few years back, it seems like every single Pumpkin Patch this year is charging to get in.

And some of them are charging absolutely ridiculous prices, simply just to step on the premises.

One near me is charging $25 per person for anyone over the age of 12 months old. No game ticket vouchers, no pumpkins included. Just simply to enter the damn patch.

A family of 4? That's $100.

Not sure if it's happening everywhere across the country, but to me it's getting crazy. Some of these pumpkin patches are already charging insane prices for the pumpkins themselves. The thought of going in as a family, actually buying a few pumpkins, walking out and realizing that you somehow just dropped close to $200 has me shaking my head.

I don't mind small entrance fees, especially if it's to a bigger patch that has games, food, drinks, rides, etc...

But if you're simply just a pumpkin patch and nothing else...You probably shouldn't be charging $25 a person just to get in.

Have others seen this happening to? or am I the only sicko in here who's saying to themselves "wtf?"

OC Our DIY Fog Chiller Rundown

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Many asked for it - so here’s a quick rundown of our low-lying fog setup! Unfortunately the wind was blowing most of it into the backyard…

List of components (Home Depot + Amazon):
- Husky Large Rolling Toolbox (includes lid gasket/opening for cables)
- 1300w Fog Machine
- 12-Head Ultrasonic Mist Maker
- 4” Drain Pipe Pop Up Emitter (Elbow)
- 2 x 4” Toilet Flanges (screws/nuts/washers)
- 4” Dryer Vent Hose (3 x 26’)
- 4” Aluminum Duct Connectors w/ clamps
- 4” Hole Saw
- 4” In-line Marine Bilge Air Blower
- Adjustable Power Supply Low Voltage Speed Control Transformer (for inline fan)

Note: Not included in video - using an oscillating tool to cut out some of the plastic ribs on the underside of the lid to make for a more ‘flush’ fit for the flange, some vent hose around the top flange to seal inside the elbow, and drilling two small holes on the underside of the fan to drain condensation.

None of the components are glued or sealed with anything permanent! I didn’t end up needing any silicone or sealant of any kind with this build and as a bonus, everything will fit inside the box for off season storage 😎

Yesterday, my local library had an event where a specialist taught about bats. Things like types of bats, what specific types eat, where they live, how they hunt, etc. She brought a few actual bats with her, which me and the rest of the crowd were able to see under a projector.

This guy is a pallid bat!

It lives around the West Coast of the US and Mexico!

We were paying our check at Cracker Barrel today and I saw these and absolutely had to have them. The fact that they were 25% off was the cherry on top.

It’s that time of year where I can litter our tiny NYC apartment with spooky accents. I hoard action figures and own a few vintage Halloween toys and collectibles. A prop here and there and voila! Happy Halloween!!!

Discussion Feeling frustrated because my parents think I’m going “overboard” on Halloween.

I’m 20 and live with my parents. Halloween has always been my second favorite holiday. Ever since finally getting a full time job (seasonal job at Lowe’s, never got a permanent job yet though and my job period ended in September) I’ve had plans on how to spend my money. One of those things being decorating for Halloween and Christmas. I’m autistic and I think they might be some of my special interests because of how obsessed with them I get when they come around. I’ve been buying a few indoor and outdoor decorations here and there since early September, stocking up for the spooky season.

At first, my parents were ok with it, but now after buying so much stuff, they pretty much said I’m cut off from Halloween. No more buying any decorations and stuff this year. I guess I kind of get that, since I do have a limited amount of money, but they mention I’m going “overboard” (they said this on previous years too for Halloween and Christmas) and one of their main arguments is that nobody is coming over. We live in a rural neighborhood with no trick or treaters and only a couple people put up Halloween decorations. However, what if I want to decorate because I enjoy it? I’ve been getting hyper interested in prop making too, and have been working on my first ever homemade prop. I still have some indoor decor that I haven’t put up yet because my mom hasn’t cleaned and she doesn’t like when I pester her to put them up, even if I was the one putting them up.

Anyways… I asked them if it would be any different if I had a permanent job, but they said I’m still going overboard. Also I was kind of forced to stop trick or treating at 12, (we always neighborhood hopped and my parents would drive me there and accompany me) basically the Halloween I was 13 years old my parents said I was too old… then of course the pandemic came and that meant no trick or treat at all. I finally convinced them to let me go with a friend from school when I was 17, her mom picked me up and we both went, and I had a wonderful time. Didn’t go since due to my seasonal job at the haunted house, which is open on Halloween if it falls on a weekend.

So… this rant was a little longer than I wanted but I wish my parents understood that holiday decorating is like an actual passion of mine. I guess I am a little obsessed with it but who here isn’t? They luckily didn’t say I couldn’t buy any Halloween stuff ever again, just not this year it seems… but the whole attitude about Halloween feels restricting. Of course I also ADORE Christmas, but I fear what will happen if I try my hand this year at Christmas decorating.

I’m sending Halloween postcards to decorated homes in our neighborhood. My kids have been enjoying the fun decor so we walk around and write down the addresses of our favorites and then we’re going to send these anonymous postcards to let them know their work is appreciated. It’s been a fun October activity!

✨Nostalgia✨ Repairing old foam pumpkins

Thumbnail

I've been collecting older foam jack o lanterns from the 90's as they have so much character and give such a nice glow. A couple of them have cracks in the foam around the face and I feel like I should reinforce them to prevent the cracks from spreading further before storing them away for next year.

Any tips on what glue and what else I should use? I don't want to accidentally melt the foam or ruin the paint jobs as they are in great shape other wise. The pictures are of the worse one and is a Trendmaster from 1995. The cracks appear to go all of the way through.

Also if someone has a good storage solution other then costco black and yellow totes for them, I'm open to ideas.

The right two gravestones are not from the song but from businesses that I was sad to see close.
I took advice from some crafty insta profiles and from this subreddit. This was fun, maybe I’ll make more next year.

Discussion Where’s Everyone Getting Their Spooky Season Fix? 🎃 Which Platform Is Winning Halloween for You This Year?

Every October, I find myself settling into that familiar rotation of horror classics, autumnal comfort watches, forgotten made-for-TV movies, and the occasional obscure gem that somehow escaped my attention for decades. Half the fun is revisiting old favorites, and the other half is discovering something new hiding in the depths of a streaming catalog.

With October in full swing, where’s everyone getting their spooky season fix this year? Netflix, Hulu, Tubi, Peacock, Shudder, Max, Prime Video, or somewhere else entirely? Maybe you’re still putting those DVD and Blu-ray collections to good use, too.

Personally, I have a soft spot for the more obscure side of the season. Forgotten Halloween specials, vintage made-for-TV movies, Halloween episodes of beloved sitcoms, and those wonderfully dated horror films that feel as though they’ve been gathering dust in some forgotten corner of the internet. The classics will always have their place, but there’s something particularly satisfying about stumbling across a hidden gem you never knew existed.

So, I’m curious: which platform has been delivering the goods this October? Who has the best selection, who’s been surprisingly disappointing, and where are the real hidden gems hiding?

More importantly, what have you actually been watching? I’m always looking for new additions to the October watchlist, especially the overlooked titles that rarely make the usual Halloween recommendations. If you’ve discovered something unexpectedly good this season, or have an old favorite you think deserves a little more love, I’m all ears!

There’s still plenty of October left, and my watchlist is nowhere near full! 🎃👻

Common theme for this year was car problems, so we figured we’d incorporate it into our “decor”

currently have my subaru’s (04 MT Legacy wagon) engine taken apart & got the heads sent in… also did lots of work on his daily, (2016 mazda3) and we’re fixing our drift whip (04’ e46 330ci) after a nasty roll.

We usually leave good candy and some kid-friendly spooky stuff, but thought the adults would appreciate a scare this year as well!

(took inspo from a ton of these we’ve seen online, i fuuuucked my check engine pumpkin tf up)
