🛡️ Mod Post IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: If you receive ANY unsolicited/creepy DMs

Whether you’re a poster or a commenter, if you have received unsolicited, creepy, or down right disgusting DMs please feel free to message Mod Mail or message me directly. As posted in multiple places in the subreddit, unsolicited or inappropriate DMs of any kind are not allowed and will result in a permanent ban. You may also be reported directly to Reddit Admins. If the person on the receiving end of this kind of harassment is a minor, you will be reported to relevant authorities (FBI Tip Line, Center for Missing and Exploited Children, etc) and it WILL be taken seriously.

As a subreddit, we have ZERO tolerance for this behavior and will do everything in our power to combat it. Unfortunately we have seen an influx of users who seem to only frequent porn subs, and our sub.

Please don’t think “oh this message isn’t that bad, I’m overreacting, etc”. Reporting posts, comments, and DMs helps out everyone in the long run. Not reporting causes these creeps to keep messaging people so nipping it in the bud can help out others💕

🛡️ Mod Post Reminder: Unsolicited DMs are NOT allowed.

We’ve seen an increase in unsolicited DMs being sent to members of this subreddit. Let this serve as a clear reminder:
Sending unprompted private messages is against the rules. Doing so will result in a permanent ban.

If you receive a DM like this, report it to the mod team immediately.

This subreddit exists as a safe, inclusive space for sharing experiences, asking questions, and giving feedback about hair dye and color treatments. If someone genuinely wants to follow up based on your helpful advice or a shared interest, they will say so publicly.

We shouldn't have to say this, but lurking in beauty-related or appearance-focused subs to harass and prey on people is disgusting and absolutely not tolerated. Any messages of an obscene or harassing nature will be reported to Reddit Admins and could result in a permanent ban from the site as a whole (for your current account, any other current accounts, or subsequent accounts made in the future).

My hair dye is fading (last photo is it fading, second to last is what it was before) and I’m debating what I should do with it now. Sometimes I look at my natural hair and think that color is best on me but then I realize I want to be colorful so… any suggestions for my hair next?

❓ Advice Needed Spent $400 at two different salons and still can't get my desired hair color. Should I just DIY at this point?

• Upvotes

Over the past two months, I've been to two different salons trying to achieve a darker ginger/auburn hair color, and both visits have been disappointing.

The first salon didn't get me anywhere close to my desired color, so I decided to give another salon a try.

During my second appointment, I specifically asked the hairstylist whether bleaching would be necessary to achieve the color I wanted. She assured me it wasn't needed, so I trusted her judgment.

Unfortunately, I ended up with pretty much the same results as the first salon.

Now I'm out $400 between two different salons, and honestly, I'm frustrated. I feel like I could've spent that money at one salon that actually knew how to achieve my desired color.

At this point, I'm considering doing it myself because I really don't want to keep throwing money away at salons without getting the results I'm paying for.

My questions are:

- Is my desired darker ginger/auburn color even achievable without bleach, considering my current hair?

- Would it be possible to achieve this at home using professional hair dye?

- Should I wait before attempting another color correction since I've already had two sessions?

- What would you recommend as the safest and most affordable way to get my desired result?

I've attached photos of my current hair and the color I'm trying to achieve. My actual hair is Asian black.

I'd really appreciate advice, especially from professional hairstylists or anyone who's been in a similar situation. I'm just tired of spending money and being disappointed. 😭

❓ Advice Needed how to stop hair dye from staining neck

hey everybody!
I had just dyed my hair green using arctic fox this last sunday (I didn’t use bleach. just put it on my natural brunette hair) and i’m still having trouble with the dye staining my neck and clothing.
I followed the instructions as directed when I originally dyed it.
is this something I can fix? or is this just inevitable?? I haven’t dyed my hair since 2019 I have forgotten how to care for my color.
please help :)
(idk if it’s important but I have wavy/textured hair)
edit to add: my two favorite sweaters are also stained. how can I get it out??? one is a light tan color and one is black

❓ Advice Needed Ask for a fix?

Hi all

I just got my hair dyed to pink.

My last few visits were lightening it with blonde highlights but I decided to get a full pink.

And now that I've looked at it a bit, I noticed a ton of blonde stands and a missed spot at the roots.

If anyone has gone from blonde highlights to a vibrant color, could this be just how the dye held to different shades of blonde? Ooor does it looks like it was missed?? My roots are super pink but bottom part is multi colored. (Very obvious when wearing a ponytail.)

I did get it bleached and it was suppose to be a full dye of hair.

This is my first time with a stylist and im freaking out about messaging them asking to fix because I dont think I can handle being charged more.

Also I was going for pastel pink but was fine with going darker because it'll fade with wash. So long as its not hot pink.... is this not hot pink? 😫

❓ Advice Needed Hair Dye - Light Copper

Hi all! A few weeks ago I already asked about some hair glosses. I loved the copper hue it gave, it washed out and now I’m ready to go the next step and dye my hair!

I am naturally a medium dishwater blonde (as this picture was taken in the sun it seems a bit brighter). I’ve grown out all hair dye. I really love the blonde copper look in the inspo picture and the reflection in the sunlight.

My friend recommended the Schwarzkopf IGORA Vibrance shades, she dyes her hair red with them frequently. Stupidly I ordered the 7-57 and 7-77 with the vol. 6 developer, because I thought “ah it’s labelled as medium blonde, that’s me” but it seems quite brown in all other swatches…

Does anyone have advice for what I other IGORA Vibrance shades I could change it to so I can get as close to the inspo as possible without bleaching?

Lesson learned already, won’t buy before consulting again, so please don’t be mean🫡

❓ Advice Needed Color advice!

I went to a new hairdresser today who specializes in fashion color. I asked for a vibrant reddish orange (will include the inspo picture i showed her at the end).

I ended up with a kind of patchy neon pink.

I've dyed my hair at home many times before, I was wondering if applying some orange or red manic panic hair dye would work ? Should I wait until it's more faded or could I go and dye my hair tomorrow ?

The dye she used is semi-permanent. Thanks in advance !

🚑 Color Correction I'm tired of my blue hair turning green! Please help! (also a big rant/vent)

I've made a post recently that had helpful replies, thank you so much! However... This one feels more urgent– personally, because it's something that has been making me very frustrated and sad. Sorry, this will be a long post.

For context: I've bleached and dyed my hair for the first time \ever* in summer 2024, on a hair salon. I retouched the color (blue) in october same year. For money reasons, I only retouched the color in like March/April 2025 at home with Manic Panic's After Midnight. Yearlier this year 2026 I did the same but this time mixing Shocking Blue and Ultra Violet iirc, but it didn't work as i wanted it to.*

So the thing is: I've always wanted a dark blue (navy kinda), that had like purple undertones? That would fade to a lighter/pastel blue or a greyish one.

something on this vibe. images are from pinterest

Unfortunately, I didn't take color theory in consideration as much as I should, bc bleached hair is yellow + the blue dye, the base will be waaayy more green. So every. single. time. it fades into a fugly turquoise/cyan/teal/wtvr. I know that's regular for blue dyes tho...

But to make it worse, today, after a WHOLE YEAR of not bleaching at a salon (i went in october 2025 even tho they came close to the color i wanted it was poorly done and the color faded COMPLETELY in less than a week ☠️) I decided to go, and discovered that for some reason my natural hair is just a pain to be bleached. To avoid frying it more, the lady decided to proceed with dyeing. I saw how yellow it was. I just accepted my fate, but honestly I should've asked to mix it with another color to make it darker.

They also used manic panic's shocking blue, and I really appreciate that the other stylist there went to buy a blue dye they didn't have just for my appointment, even giving me what remained for free. They were very nice and I think did a fairly great job, afterall it wasn't no super luxurious salon, rather a small one. I like the cut. Unfortunately I'm still sad and frustrated that most of the blue is a more vibrant high saturation and some strands are already turquoise/cyan. Opposite to what I wanted and fail to achieve.

my front camera is meh and i think it just made the blue seem even more of a lighter shade. you can't see the cyan strands but they exist

So I beg all of you PLEASE TELL ME what can I do, as soon as possible, to turn it into a darker, prettier shade of Blue that won't fade so strongly to cyan/turquoise. Should I use a toner? Top it with another dye? What color? purple, pink, another blue? I like manic panic so I really want color name suggestions. I'm desperate. And tired. I just want a dark blue/navy hair that won't turn/fade into turquoise or cyan.

❓ Advice Needed Can you use a deep conditioning mask after a Demi-permanent dye?

I used a Demi-permanent dye at home and I don’t think it worked. After it sat for enough time, I rinsed it in warm water, shampooed, and then used a deep conditioning mask for 5-10 mins.

I’m not sure if using a deep conditioning mask was a bad idea or if I didn’t saturate my hair enough?

❓ Advice Needed Would brown box dye(one with high-lift) make my naturally black hair dark brown?

Hi everyone! I'm new to the hair-dying community and I want to dye my naturally black virgin hair like a dark brown (just a few shades up). I'm wondering if a permanent brown box dye would do that? I want to achieve it without bleaching and I heard that there's something called 'high-lift' that would achieve it?

I saw this one tutorial where someone used ash blonde box dye and it turned their black hair a light brown, but I want mine a darker chocolate/rich brown.

However I'm really scared about my hair turning brassy/orange.

If someone has successfully turned their virgin black hair a dark brown colour using a box dye could you please give me tips/tricks and what box dye you used!

Thanks!

Hey everyone!
I just got the demi permanent 5RR shade but don’t know much about hair chemistry. I included pictures of my current hair (one inside one outside) which is a dark medium brow with highlights.
Can anyone give me an idea of what it will look like? I’m looking for darker with a hint of red. Thank you all so much in advance! :)

❓ Advice Needed bleach over faded splat

Thumbnail

hi yall,
i’ve been dying my hair pink with splat midnight magenta for a few months now, i’ve died it three times since june because it keeps fading really quickly. ideally, i would
bleach my hair and get it fully pink again, but im worried about damage. it’s very faded, and my hairs comparison of initial results to now after a month or so are shown. any advice? if it’s too risky to bleach i’m planning on a cool toned brown because my skin is cool toned/has pink undertones.
i had highlights that was starting to grow out before i had the pink, so my roots are very clearly brown and i dislike the color difference.
thanks!
