Meet Tyrone. An enormous baby with excellent manners and a very simple agenda: lounge in the yard, hang with his dog friends, and be loved by absolutely everyone.
This boy is GOLD. Dog friendly. Cat friendly. Kennel trained. A gentleman on the leash. Smart, willing, gentle, and ridiculously easy to be around.
Tyrone is deaf and has limited vision. He can make out shapes and shadows, finds his way around, and adapts beautifully. His world looks and sounds different, but he is very comfortable living in it.
And living with him? He has been an absolute breeze. He enjoys his routine, loves his people, and is perfectly happy taking life at a slower pace. A little guidance and a chance to learn his surroundings go a long way with this guy.
Please do not scroll past him because you assume he will be too difficult. The Tyrone we know is manageable, affectionate, and easygoing. His biggest demand is probably going to be a Tyrone sized spot to lounge beside you.
He deserves a family who sees what we see. One incredibly good dog.
Visit www.dtranimalfoundation.com and click Adopt to apply. Tyrone is located in Manteno, IL.

Q and Maybe Some A’s Apartment Living Recommendations

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hi there! Looking for recommendations for apartment living gear with my city girl. Shes crate trained, but usually does fine out on her own even when home alone for short periods so her crate is in my parents garage and not my apartment lol. I work from home, but have some work travel coming up in a few months when my roommate/her auntie will be watching her for a few days.

I want to get a collapsible or sturdy soft crate she can go in when left home alone for short periods (2-3 hours max), at least until she gets used to the new apartment.

Does anyone have any recommendations for great dane sized easy to store crates?

Beware of her. She will get up all in your face and loves attention more than food (That is not joke) and will press you against walls to “protect you” and that tail is more whip than tail She put her head on your lap and try to sit on the couch.

She is a Great Beast.

Jokes aside we call her Addy Baddy cause of her Shenanigans and as you can see she loves my dad.

I’M STILL THE FAVORITE!!!

We did a 10 day roadtrip and ended up somewhere in Andorra, on a mountain. Beautiful morning. He’s almost 17 months and a hand full, but seeing him like this makes everything worth it

Q and Maybe Some A’s Looking for advice / possible bladder cancer

Post image
45 Upvotes

Does anyone have any experience with cancer cells showing up in a urine sample? My girl is 9 years old, she has some heart issues high pro bnp nothing on her films though and some acid reflux issues she tasked Pepcid 3x daily, we just did her physical and bloodwork and stool was normal but they found what they think is cancerous cells in her urine. They want to do either an ultrasound or a braf test but her doctors couldn’t decide which one would be best and I am leaning towards the ultra sound. They said the braf would pretty accurately tell us if it was cancer (85%) for about 300-400 dollars and the ultrasound would hopefully show any growths 400-600 dollars for that. I am having so much trouble deciding what to do and how to proceed has anyone had a Dane with this type of issue. I know she’s old and i have been anticipating her and of life and trying to plan how we would handle care and at her age I wouldn’t do any harsh treatments or anything invasive. I’d just like to find out how to best keep her comfortable through her end of life.

Our boy is 8 years old today. He celebrated early, around 3:48am, by getting sprayed by a skunk when he was out having a potty. Gotta love a stinky, birthday boy. ❤️

She’s 10mo, but I like bringing her on all my adventures and errands. I didn’t mean to get a big dog, I wanted a 10lb or under dog. I guess the mentality of a “purse dog” kind of stayed. Today I drove two hours to my dealership and brought her rather than her be in the kennel. She was actually very good, but did a lot of shenanigans like this.

I am so curious if the trait of laying their ears on the top of their head is specifically a Great Dane thing 😆 This is my previous Great Dane/ Pit Bull mix, Danny and then Hugo who is full Great Dane.

Did your Great Dane also do this?

New Owner Home alone suggestions

Post image
46 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I will try to make this as clear as possible:

My husband and I have recently taken in this adorable girl. The short version of a long story is that a coworker is going through a messy divorce and they needed to rehome Ms. Sophia here. My husband and I are dog people, so this is not our first rodeo (all big dogs), but it is our first Great Dane.

The family we got her from said that she is crate trained and is use to going in when nobody is home. They gave us her crate, blankets, etc. My husband and I work opposite hours so four days a week there is about a 2 hour window where she has to go in her crate (which is very large, she has plenty of room to move around, etc) between him leaving for work and me getting home. The issue is that any time we put her in there, she starts whining and crying and can’t be settled down. Obviously we know dogs get upset and want to be with people, but it breaks our hearts to see her get this upset when we don’t have a choice but to leave.

We have only had her for a little over a week now, but we are wondering if anyone has suggestions on what we can do to help her have less, what we assume is separate anxiety. We fully get that this is a new and confusing situation for her. She is away from a family she has lived with since she was a puppy, in a new place, which is hard. We just want to make this transition easier for her if at all possible. Obviously if we could, we would let her stay out and not be in a crate when we aren’t home, but we tried that and came home to an absolute disaster (we do not blame her in the slightest. It’s a learning curve for all of us on how each other function). We want to keep working towards her having that freedom, but baby steps!

Dane Discussions Post-surgery Great Dane

I just don’t know what to do about her. Gastropexy and Spay 6 days ago.

She tears her plastic cone off, so we bought her an inflatable comfy cone. She popped it. So we bought her a “suitacle” (like a onesie), she ripped it off in no time. She has no interest in staying calm and going outside to potty on a leash. She wants to run - fast!

Vet gave us 150mg Trazadone and we have been giving her 2 pills (300mg). Gabapentin too.

Nothing phases her.

Vet said 2 weeks of this and it’s only day 6 now. I don’t know what to do.

Huey (named after the Bell UH-1 Iroquois utility helicopter) is a service dog in training. Part of his training is to get well accustomed to crowded and loud places surrounded by a lot of humans. You should never pet a service dog without permission; however, we were given full permission to spoil him rotten with pets as part of his socialization process. He is only 8 months old and well on his way to help a veteran deal with their challenges.
