Other GIRLS season 7

IMO the worst element of girls was season 5 & 6 making Elijah important. He’s a terrible boring character and I hope he doesn’t steal narrative real estate from our girls in season 7

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ❓ favourite callbacks?

i think the show has multi season joke execution and callbacks as good as arrested development. soooo many jokes and throwaway lines from season 1,2, and 3 get an excellent pay off in season 4,5 and 6.

obviously “your dad is gay” is an obvious one but i think expanding on that, having loreen seek comfort in elijah after tads coming out was really impactful and deliberate by the writers.

jessa also telling marnie she can’t spot a high person impacts marnie in various ways throughout the show, “the panic in central park” couldn’t have happened if marnie could tell charlie was high and her marriage with desi.

are there any other callbacks from the show you enjoy?

Season 2 One thing I appreciate about Adam’s character

Doing a rewatch and one thing I appreciate about the character Adam is how he sticks up for Hannah.

Another character member such as Ray or even her good friends Shoshanna or Marnie will privately say to Adam how nobody else could ever put up with Hannah, but he does and why does he etc.

He doesn’t ever hesitate to say promptly and with simple conviction that he doesn’t see it that way and regardless she puts up with his shit too and that she is his best friend. End of.

A lot of characters like to talk down about Hannah, to her face or behind her back, and he doesn’t get aggro in her defence but instead calmly shut down that talk and make it clear he has her back.

I know they are also in a toxic relationship but I appreciate this element is all I’m saying. Who wouldn’t want someone to talk to others and feel about us like this, with our flaws and all? We all have our own bullshit afterall and some of us can be “a lot”. Myself included, I am sure.

Other Where I see the Girls in the Reboot

Only just finished my first watchthrough recently, but I have a pretty clear idea in my head of where everyone would be 11 years later.

Hannah: Quit or got fired from her teaching job within a year of starting. Continued to balance jobs until she rushed into marriage with her next boyfriend because shes drowning. Got divorced. Now dating someone else (probably a guy, but it's not impossible Lena's ideas about her sexuality are wrong) and back to teaching at Grover's school. Surprisingly at peace.

Marnie: Has managed to get a pretty decent life together. New okay husband, okay job, maybe a kid or two. Absolutely miserable.

Shosh: Built exactly the life she always wanted and absolutely loved it for years. Extremely successful, amazing husband, wonderful friends. Puts on a bright smile every day now to hide how utterly bored and unsatisfying it is to have no more ladders left to climb and no more goals to check off.

Jessa: There needs to be an inciting incident to get everyone back together, and Jessa is the perfect hurricane to make that happen. After a decade of continuing to drift through life, she had a baby, she doesnt know who the father is, and since Adam died in some theater accident, the only person she thinks she can try to get to help her with it is Shosh, who proceeds to try and get rid of her by trying to get Hannah and Marnie to help her. Has not changed a bit.

Other Girls vs AJLT

The finale of Girls was not very final. There could have been an episode the next day and we wouldn’t blink.

Sex and the City… we waited years to see Carrie with Big and then it happened. Where do you go after that? AJLT trashed the Big relationship and Miranda’s relationship with Steve after years of us rooting for them.

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ❓ Prediction for reboot re children

I think there will be a storyline where one of the girls struggles with being able to conceive. One of Lena Dunham's (many) strengths is she draws from real emotion and given her experiences I think that will be part of the storyline.

I wonder if Jessa will be pregnant and Sosh will have been struggling with her fertility. It draws a neat line to S1 and Jessa's 'abortion'. They need a reason for Sosh to come back in to Hannah's and perhaps Marnie's orbits with the way the final season ended. Or perhaps Marnie is struggling with it.

I really trust them with how they will do it if Lena Dunham decides to write about these issues.

Also if Adam Driver doesn't return (likely) it is much more true to real life. I don't think he would be part of their lives anymore.

Episode Discussion 📺 Which episode would you show someone?

I’m getting to know this guy, and we agreed to switch tv shows… he’s gonna watch 1 episode of Girls and i have to pick which one.
What episode would be best? My first thought was Panic in Central Park but i don’t know if he’d really understand it without the backstory.

If it helps, he did a ‘which girl are you’ quiz and got Ray.

Just scored this dress last night on Poshmark for $20. I’m wearing it to Halloween karaoke night at a place called Charlie’s Grill (the irony!)
Obviously I’m going to sing Stronger.
I’ll post the video here so everyone can catch the secondhand embarrassment at home. I hope I can make it as cringey as possible.
In other news I finally splurged and ordered this Marnie Michaels Apologist Mug I had been eyeing on Redbubble for 6 months.
GIRLS is back! I’m elated 💃🏻

Other I predict

I can see Marni becoming a Rachel Hollis type character. Who is all about self help and motivation. But then says something insensitive that borders on elitist or kind of racist. And gets “cancelled”. So the show will start with Marni dealing with the aftermath of the backlash. She is single, never been married and very rich. Marni decides to go on a retreat to getaway and heal. It’s there she runs into Jessa.

Jessa owns a spiritual center that caters to wealthy clients. She is a trained yoga and reiki instructor. Jessa was led down this path after Adam left her for a very famous movie star he met when they were shooting a movie. And after a nervous break down and relapse she turned her life around for the 100th time. And due to her connections through Adam’s famous friend. Jessa became successful overnight and is viewed as a female guru type. She is very rich and does not have any kids. But does have a very handsome strong male partner. She is bicoastal

Shoshanna is an influencer who lives in Connecticut but stills keeps an apartment in New York for work. Still married to the same person. They have two kids in expensive private schools. She loves vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard and wearing white pants with loafers. She’s turned into a Stepford Wife and is so Type A she is dying to break free and get some random dick and have fun. She still talks to Marni who she used to occasionally collaborate with and would do podcasts together until Marni got cancelled.

Hannah and Grover live in the West Village. Grover goes to a really artsy school and is good at everything. He plays instruments. Paints. He loves spending time with his Dad who he met when he was 4 years old. Hannah has become a Fran Lebowitz type woman. Very serious but still comical. She is an esteemed author and does lectures. Has matured a ton. Never got married or had more kids but has been seeing Grover’s Dad a lot more

Ray’s coffee shop turned into a franchise after a few of his drinks went viral. He left his fiancé the girl from the last episode we see him with for a shallow rich beautiful model. He becomes a millionaire from the coffee franchise and completely sells out

Elijah is an EGOT with a current starring role on the biggest show on Broadway. Married to a fellow actor and has twin sons.

I see them all becoming the exact opposite of what they were and becoming wealthy and successful but the one thing that still remains is they remain shallow and selfish in many ways and the world still revolves around them except now they have money. But none of them are very happy

Season 6 Did Jessa keep the baby? Spoiler

As the 2027 season is announced, the only thing I have in mind is the end of season 6 when Jessa threw up hinting to the audience that she was pregnant, most likely with Adam's baby.
What are your thoughts about this storyline? Did she tell Adam and keep the baby? Did they raise it together? Did she ran out and left the baby with him? Would she have had an abortion?
I'm so curious!

Other What Are the Most Common Girls/Sex and the City Personality Overlaps?

Recently finished Girls for the first time (loved it) and it didn't take me long to start thinking about this. I'm a Shoshanna and a Carrie (who dreams of being a Charlotte). What are you, and what do you think are the most common overlaps?

News Predictions for upcoming season

What are everybody’s predictions on the upcoming revival? Tell us where you thinks the Girls will be at at the beginning of the season…

I’ll start…

Hannah: She will move back to NY for a new teaching job. Her main issue will be dealing with a teenage daughter who will think she’s the voice of her generation or a generation. Loreen will love encouraging her granddaughter which will of course piss Hannah off.

Jessa: She will be recently single and looking for a job after her time with MAHA comes to an end and now needs to rediscover herself.

Shoshanna: she will have divorced the guy she married but will have remarried once again (or maybe twice more) and is now a corporate director at a big bank. This will be because her new husband is a finance bro but she will also be thinking of leaving him after she meets a new man.

Marnie: she will be a lawyer but unsatisfied as she still has 2-3 great folk albums in her. She will take a risk and put herself out there creatively.

Elijah: he will be an established theatre actor and will be dealing with now being a “famous daddy”.

Adam: he will be an actor with a cult following but won’t be on the show.

Laird and Caroline: will be as weird as ever living in a rent controlled east village apartment.

Sample: he will be the tortured male teen who attracts Hannah’s daughter.

Ray: he will be a Bernie Samders style politician against gentrification in Bushwick. He’ll still be married.

Where do you think they’ll be at?

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ❓ Did Jessa intentionally invite Adam to lunch so he’d offer to pay for her schooling?

Do you think Jessa invited Adam to lunch with her and her sister specifically so he would overhear that she needed money to become a therapist? Seems like an odd conversation to have in front of him. Or was it just a coincidence? (Season 5, Episode 5)

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ❓ Bandwagoner here - never seen Girls, whats your favorite thing about the show?

I've heard a few friends casually mention how they either love the show or are considering a rewatch. I've never seen it but after all the news lately, I'm strongly considering. I'm not a girl so I just didnt understand the concept but I realize I literally judged the show off of surface level aspects. For folks who have seen the entire series, whats your favorite thing about the show? Does a new watcher have to finish the og series to get the reboot?

Other Predictions??

Stoked that they’re coming out with new episodes!!

What’re some of your predictions on the storylines?

I’m half expecting they open at Adam’s funeral or something. Especially given the things Lena said in her recent memoir..
