I literally fucking hate Nintendo when it comes to dlc. Pokemon Sword/Shield came out like 6 years ago and the $30 dlc for them have never had a discount from Nintendo in all of that time according to dekudeals. That's absurd if you ask me. I already have a hard time justifying any dlc purchase, but Nintendo's high prices and lack of discounts make skipping them even easier. Pokemon is even worse, since you'd need to buy the dlc separately for both games in a gen, rather than at least letting players by the dlc once to work with both versions. This is pure greed and they only get away with because of rabid pokemon fans.

I'd say I'm relieved to have not bought FW yet, but even if Nintendo does a game + dlc bundle, it'll just be the full price of the game + dlc making it nothing more than a novelty, rather than a way to save a few bucks. Anyway, rant over.

I feel like every Nintendo rant on this sub boils down to “I don’t like the Pokemon Company” and then they blame those things on Nintendo instead.

It's absolutely true that Nintendo doesn't put things on sale. That's not just the Pokemon company or Game Freak.

I just think it's fine that Nintendo doesn't put things on sale.

Oh yeah that part I agree with. They could probably up the amount of sales for games that are from the 2010s at the very least and it’s a bit silly they don’t.

I just find it’s funny that so many complaints about Nintendo on this sub almost always revolve around a Pokemon practice that Nintendo actually doesn’t follow or have much of a say in.

Nintendo doesn't want a $40 Mario game from the 2010s competing with a $60 or $70 Mario game today, because Nintendo philosophically and strategically believes that games do not degrade in quality over time, that their back catalogue is on par with recent releases, and that letting gamers get in the habit of waiting for a sale is bad for business.

It's not the most consumer friendly policy but when you look at the race to the bottom on sale pricing, the way that gamers wait for sales on Ubisoft games to the point that it's a well-known joke you can save 90% by waiting 90 days, and where the other major platformer-holders are today, it's hard to argue against their business savvy.

Well, it's not absolutely true. They have sales on their first party titles, just not the deep 90% off sales you'd see from other publishers.

Yes, sorry, could be more precise.

They have infrequent and modest sale prices designed to boost sales rates and as promotions. But since the Switch became a major success, Nintendo has not engaged in deep sales or permanent price drops on its major titles.
