From what I've played, absolutely. Rune magic is a feature everyone uses, not just dedicated mages. Like melee can flame enchant, you can conjure an axe to chop tons of trees or splinter to explode all the logs in an area into wood. And then as a mage you can make a staff that uses wind, fire, and/or water runes with different effects and spells for your attack combos.
I picked up Dragonwilds to check it out and the rune magic turned me off pretty hard when I went to refresh my simple weapon buff and I was already out of runes! Exploring felt like a real chore (this and the runbacks ended my time with the game for good).
I simply don't click with games that require reagents for casting everything. There are already too many items that need tracking in games like this.
It's honestly a non issue. 10 rune mats make 100 runes at a vein. I spent 30 minutes in the starting area loading up and had 300+ of everything. A normal staff attack uses 1. Its incredibly cheap and is easier than how most games treat arrows.

Is dragonwilds better for magic?
