Accidentally installed One UI 9 on Flip6 tonight...and I don't understand all the hate?

  • You were never able to switch apps before as shown in screenshot on the cover screen of Flip 6 unless you used an external app/launcher
  • You can access your full Samsung Calendar app & Phone Contacts app now which was never possible until now
  • You can go directly to all your apps by flicking up from bottom of the screen instead of needing to scroll to multistar
  • It appears like you can open any app now on the cover screen which I'm positive you couldn't fully do before
  • You can disable the Now brief home screen in settings if you hate it
  • I don't know why people said they can't see their time or cover animations now? I see all of that just fine and my cover lockscreen is the same as always

So yeah... I'm not seeing what's so terrible about this update. To be fair, I already hated and was barely using the cover screen ever since One UI 7, but for me the latest changes will probably make me use it more than I used to

So it arrived. It was not Pristine

The outside of the phone is in fantastic condition. But the inside has some issues and I wouldn’t say this is “Grade A quality”. The screen protector is gone, the sides of the screen are filled with buildup dust and gunk, the cracking in the crease, and the missing stoppers from the bottom. Battery life is great for a 6 year old phone though

I paid for “Grade A” (from CEX) and am considering returning. I asked their support to just be refunded the difference for it to be priced accordingly to condition- and they ignored the question. They’ve offered me a straight refund & return but I can’t tell if it’s worth the $430 AUD or not as is

I have no idea what this app even is, really, but it's apparently DESTROYING my battery. Is anyone else having the same issue?

Samsung flip 5 dead main screen. Cover screen working

Thumbnail

I recently purchased a Samsung galaxy z flip 5 from someone which had a dead main display. Only reason I bought it was to use the cover screen mostly.

Paid 65usd including shipping. Hooked up the phone to my LED TV (wired connection) and it mirrored up instantly. I was able to use the main screen of the flip 5 for navigation on the TV. The main display is basically blank. But the touch seems to work for navigation.

I do not intend on even trying to get the main screen repaired. Even if it's a gamble on just replacing the flex cable, because after that I don't know whats in for me.. that is, lines on the display which were probably present before the display went blank, or dots maybe, or even green tinted flickering display like in some cases.

I've done research on some cover screen apps made by some folks (chargeable) and goodlock (which is free).. I was looking at the z flip power launcher app too. I think it's 3.99usd to use it without limitations..

Any recommendations? Should I gamble on the main screen ?

When I was working on my Z Flip Cover Power launcher a while back, I also added a simple cassette widget and totally forgot to ever mention it. Just wanted to quietly hop on the trend today and share my humble setup with you guys!

Question ❓ Notifications non accessibles sur One UI 9

• Upvotes

Goodbye, flip phone

Well, I used to have a Flip 1. It’s a shame they’re so expensive, though. I’d love to use an older model as well. I just need the money for my studies, not for a new Flip. But I do miss not using it. It’s a practical foldable design that suits me down to the ground. And I’m glad to hear that something like this is being talked about. Maybe one day I’ll own a working one again.

Z Flip 8 (One UI 9) Cover screen calendar reminders using 24hr format

Anyone know how to change this to 12 hr format? I never used 24hr so idk why it's assuming this.

UPDATE: it's sourcing this from 'now brief'. However, 'now brief' has no option to change time format. Lovely.

Question ❓ Does anybody own the Z flip 8 in Mint?

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could share some photos of their z flip 8 in mint. Since it is a samsung exclusive color, I cannot see it in person anywhere. And YT is not helping as all videos are about the pink.
Many thanks in advance

Advice on Galaxy Z Flip 7

Hello all, (This one is a long one)

Please could I have some insight/advice or what you would do with my phone situation:

I currently have the Z Flip 7 since November 2025. This year In mid September I was taking a picture of something at work, put my phone in my pocket and then 5 minutes later, I pulled out my phone again to take a picture of another thing and my phone screens were just completely messed up and broken.

I didn't fold it very much and or drop it at all. I took it to a Samsung store to get it fixed. The staff said my third party screen protector was the reason why my inner screens were broken. Something along the lines of my screen protector creating extra pressure when folded.

The staff did guarantee that the phone could be fixed for free and the fact that the phone was in good physical condition (i.e not been dropped/bashed in etc) since the phone was under the 2 year warranty.

Now I have my fixed phone, it's basically brand new- the screens are all replaced and the phone has had a factory reset.

Before this incident- I loved my Galaxy Z Flip 7, I was parading it around, I was amazed by it. However, now, after this incident and the fact I didn't fold the phone or damage it at the time it happened I feel... disappointed in the flips and I've lost trust in the foldables. Even though I know I was technically at fault for using a screen protector (but who wouldn't want to to protect their phone screen, foldable or not), I still feel a bit scammed by these foldable phones.

Seeing all these reddit posts about other people's issues with their flips and folds also haven't given me much confidence with these phones.

I have decided that my next phone will be regular smart phone.

My question is- should I just sell my phone since it is esentially new (factory resetted) and offset the cost of a new phone.

(I was thinking of apple/google pixel)

Or should I just suck it up and continue using my repaired phone.

- Other information;

I'm based in the UK.

I am flying to Hong Kong in May 2027, so I could potentially buy a new phone out there.

I bought my phone outright from the Samsung store and I have all my original boxes etc.

I'm not using it right now, just using my old phone (Samsung Galaxy S10+) due to just being too busy to set up my phone again right now.

Thank you in advance

Question ❓ Apps no longer on cover screen

Hi all. So I downloaded the one UI 9 update and my cover screen is... different. I had my apps like a homescreen thanks to goodlock, and I updated all the apps but it still doesn't show up. When I "add apps" it only brings up the goodlock game widget.

What do??

Question ❓ Is this normal?

Post image

My battery usage doesn't give me accurate screen on time data. As you can see in the image, it looks like it counts the cover screen as screen on time (I suspect), since I have it always on. I'm not totally sure if this was the case since always, I've only had the phone for a year and a half and wasn't using it for most of the time.

Screen Protector Air Bubble/Crease

I was thinking of trading in my flip 7 for the S26. Do you think they'll accept the full trade in value since my screen is fine its more so the screen protector?

Discussion 💬 Potential cause for crease lift

I had a flip 5 for 3 years, and the screen was prestine up until the moment i had to get a new case. I noticed the new case had a silicone hinge guard that retracted when unfolded, which was completely different than my original hard plastic hinged guard.

Is it possible certain types of hinge guards/cases could be causing the screen lift?

Discussion 💬 Tried z flip 8 at a store...

Played with the demo unit for a few minutes and while I'm still contemplating between this n razr 60 ultra, majorly cus I want alot of front screen use and minimal inside screen use, I have some observations:

  1. The width is actually great for seeing videos on YT and insta and I didn't face any aspect adjustment issues

  2. The camera placement being a Lil less out of the way compared to razr is also great. It's NOT a big difference but still it's that itch that you can scratch kind of feeling with how they're placed a tad more in the corner on the z flip.

  3. Loved the screen brightness And moving wallpapers. Fun to see, use and the build quality just feels so lovely.

I have used z flip 4,5 and 6 before and got the 6 over the razr plus at the time (maybe i shouldn't have), but while I'm still confused at this purchase, credit where it's due. Both iteration are the list of the clamshell style flip from both brands ( 70 ultra isn't coming to my country), so just thought I'd share!

News 🗞️ Lib Launcher 1.3.1: keep using the same app on the cover screen after you close your Flip

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

When you're using an app on the main screen, you often want to keep using it on the cover screen after you close your Flip. So I added that in 1.3.1. The cover screen offers to open the same app, right where you left off. One tap. That's the first half of the video, with Reddit.

How it works

  • Close the phone and turn on the cover screen within 5 minutes. A "Continue Reddit" button appears at the top. Tap it and the app opens on the cover screen.
  • It shows up on Lib's home and on Samsung's own cover screen.
  • Continue the same app twice and Lib offers to always continue it. Say yes, and the app is already open when you unlock. That's the second half of the video.
  • Dismiss an app with ✕ three times in a row and Lib offers to stop suggesting it.
  • You can set any app yourself: Settings > When the cover screen turns on > Per-app settings.

This uses Lib's accessibility service. It only notes which app is in front on the main screen. It doesn't read anything on the screen.

A how-to guide. The first time you open Lib on the cover screen, a short guide walks you through the basics on your own home screen: opening your apps, notifications and quick settings, switching pages, and edit mode. Each step moves on once you've actually done it. Already using Lib? Go to Settings > About > Show the tutorial again, and it starts the next time your home opens on the cover screen.

Also new since 1.2.2

Reply from the cover screen. Reply to messages and tap notification buttons like Mark as read, without opening the phone. The reply box sits at the top, so the keyboard doesn't cover it.

A Now Playing card that opens the player. Samsung's music card on the cover screen asks you to open your phone unless the app is registered in Good Lock. Lib's card, in the notification panel or on home, opens the player on the cover screen.

A Back button in the Pill, the Smart menu and the side panel. Smart double tap can also go back or open any app you pick.

Recent apps on home. A widget with one recent app per cell. Make it bigger to show more.

Recents without the flicker. On One UI 9 it opens as smoothly as Samsung's own button.

Lock your home layout so nothing moves around in your pocket.

Smaller things: a new look for folders, Lib's settings can go in the side panel, icons follow icon pack changes in Galaxy Themes, and Lib can be opened from Modes and Routines.

Fixed: Lib's home no longer shows up on your TV while casting. On the Flip 7 and 8, apps opened from Lib no longer leave the bottom of the screen empty. The side panel no longer disappears when you use the Pill.

Get Lib Launcher

If something doesn't work on your Flip, tell me your model in the comments. I read every one.

Haven't even made my 3rd payment and screen is cooked. Never dropped the phone and trying to get warranty (didn't buy the extended warranty my fault).

Was watching a show while cooking dinner, took the phone back to my room and large bright line across and up a side. The middle fold is all cracked and viable cracks spidering out from it.

Question ❓ Can't use external HDMI after One UI 9 update?

I often connect my Galaxy Z Flip 6 to an external monitor I have on my deck with a USB-C to HDMI adapter, but after updating to One UI 9, it doesn't seem to be connecting to my monitor anymore. It's a niche issue I know but has anyone else had this problem?

Discussion 💬 Update or not to update?

After reading all complaints just wanted to clarify once again. Is this update that bad? Using Flip 6. On cover screen I'm using some apps with help of good lock launcher and few other widgets like photo from gallery, phone app, and direct call. Will i be able to use all that after update? Thanks.

My Z Flip 8 (right) is missing the home tab (gesture navigation)

Post image

It only works if I open an app on the cover screen. Whereas on the 7 (left) it's always there and lets me navigate. Strange.

UPDATE: Fixed it simply by restarting the phone. 😅 The nav bar is back!

I updated my phone and I tried to update my wallpaper. Now I can't get rid of this white rectangle at the bottom. Anyone know how to fix it or remove it?
