This subreddit has a lot of helpful people in it. Actually more than many other local subreddits of similar size in my experience.
However, being asked the same thing over and over again gets tiresome after having recently answered the same questions dozens of times before. Please use the search function before making a post to see if the question has been asked before, and also please be descriptive when asking for help, advice, or recommendations.

I'll be in Fukuoka later this month and I am looking to try Warayaki Mikan for an izakaya-type meal. Has anyone eaten here and if so what was your experience like? Would it be okay to go as a non-Japanese / foreign diner?
Hi all,
We are visiting Kyushu from 7th to 16th November, will be renting a car to tour around the island (currently top half, visiting Kagoshima, Kiirishima will make the trip too rush).
Will be hiking Mt Kuju, Mt Aso as well.
Anyone have any recommendations for sunrise and sunset viewing spot in November?
I checked some of the APP and it seems the popular sunset spot (Sakurai couple stones, Hamanoura rice fields) is only visible during Summer and not in November.

Hello all, I'm planning to stay in Fukuoka for 10 days. I'm thinking of a cheap hostel vs a proper hotel. However, I care more about whether there are good gym facilities nearby or at the hotel, with a lot of equipment.
I'm also curious about those who have stayed at an all-male hostel; were there any issues? In addition, how do we keep our luggage safe?
Last but not least, any recommendations on what to explore for a chill trip that allow you to experience it like the locals or more nature/relax/soul-reflecting will be appreciated!

Hi everyone :)
I’m a sophomore studying languages (including Japanese), and I have the opportunity to spend a semester in Japan.
There are several cities to choose between, but after reading stuff on the internet, I think Fukuoka might be a good option—even though it’s a bit far from the more famous cities.
Does anyone have experience spending a semester in Fukuoka? Or any general information about what life is like in Fukuoka as an exchange student and whether there are many places to visit that are accessible by public transportation?
(I’d be attending Seinan Gakuin University).
I know every experience is subjective, but I’d still appreciate some feedback ^^

I'm getting the itch to jam on an old synthesizer. I don't mean the big expensive ones like Jupiters, Junos, or CS. I'm looking for older entry market keyboards like the Casio VL1, Casio CT series, and Yamaha PSS series.
I know I can download nearly all of these as samples online, but nothing really beats making music on a piece of plastic older than myself.
Are there any specialty vintage music shops in Fukuoka like the ones in Tokyo? Or is poking around Hard Off and 2nd Street every few weeks my best bet?

Hello everyone!
My suitcase broke in Fukuoka durring my travels and I had to get a new one, but now I'm stuck with a broken suitcase with no real idea on how to get rid of it. My host would charge me 10000 yen to dispose of it, but I find that a very steep price.
Does anyone have any advice?

Hi there!
As title says, currently living in Tokyo but want to get out of that city, I'll be working remotely soon and am partly scoping out Fukuoka as part of my month long bike trip and will be in the city Oct 15-17.
I've walked around the main areas but can't seem to get a feel for community here, was wondering if I could potentially meet people (expat or local, Japanese or English language both fine).
Mainly, I'd love to know if there's potential of making a good group of friends who have interesting hobbies and are generally fun to be with. I love hosting dinners, chatting about books, cycling or anything generally active, but also being lazy and chilling and eating yummy food or playing games.
If anyone is up to grab coffee I'd love to pick your brain on the city and how you're liking it etc! Can share IG/chat for more info beforehand to tell you more about me if you'd like.
Cheers, thanks!

Hello! I have an odd question. My cancer meds have kind of ruined my heat regulation system and when it gets over 25 degrees celsius I become gradually dizzy. I’m hoping to visit Fukuoka in early November, and while the outside temperature appears to be pretty ideal for me, I'm unsure about public transport (buses, trains, the insides of stations, airport etc.) and indoor venues (malls, supermarkets, restaurants, underground plazas etc.). I know they tend to be heated during winter months but I'm unsure about early November. I've asked around but haven't found a reliable conclusion so I figured I'd come and ask the locals. Thanks a lot! <3

My partner and I host a sumo podcast and will be attending the upcoming Fukuoka basho. On the final night of the tournament, Sunday 22nd November, we would like to host an after party at a bar. We’ll be bringing 25-30 people and will have a DJ with us. Does anyone have any recommendations on who we could contact? We’re cool with the venue charging a cover charge if necessary. Thanks!

Visiting with my mom and tomorrow is our last day, we want to get our nails done but haven’t made any appointment to. Any locations that are flexible in terms of walk in’s or last minute appointments?

Hi guys,
Can I get some advice on how/where to find housing near Kyudai Ito campus after moving out of dorms. I'll be moving in March but want to get ahead of things.
Someone mentioned that its best to use agents to find your next place, so any recommendations for agents that speak English would be very helpful (just moved here so my Japanese is still quite poor). Any other websites for apartment hunting would be great too!
Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone! I know there's been a number of posts recently by people looking for friends in Fukuoka, but I thought I'd add my own. I've been here since March and would like to find some (preferably female!) friends.
A little bit about some of my interests and hobbies - I like photography, making photozines, crochet, and watercolour. I also like to read stuff in the humanities and social sciences! I enjoy dates at the café or the park where we can just chill and do our own thing together, or just simply walking around the city.
If you're interested to hang please hit me up!!

Like the title says, I would like to throw a christmas party. I know it is way early but some like to plan ahead.. Would anyone be interested in attending? I have a COSTCO card as well and can go buy a lot of the food. Just need to find a venue. Probably do a white elefant gift exchange.

Thanks to everyone who came to the first Dead Clever pub quiz! Congratulations to Blackpool Holiday 1996 for becoming the first team on our Wall of Champions!
A big thank you for all the feedback too. We’ve taken it on board and are getting ready for event number two.
With Halloween coming up, and the venue being a haunted house, we’re making this one a Halloween special! Expect the usual mix of trivia, with a special Halloween round thrown in.
We’re also planning a Halloween after-party. Costumes are encouraged but definitely not necessary. There might even be an extra point for a particularly good costume...
Come alone or with friends. If you’re coming solo, we’ll help you find a team.
The owner is letting us host for free, so buying a few drinks or some food would be much appreciated to help support him.
So we can get an idea of numbers, we would appreciate if you could comment or message me if you are planning on coming!
Hope to see you all there!

The Senior Citizens’ Art Exhibition has opened at Fukuoka Art Museum, Japan.
Anton W. Hersche’s artwork, Bamboo Forest, is now on display.
A day surrounded by art, new encounters, and the beautiful scenery of Ohori Park.
And then, something happened that made this exhibition even more special for Anton.
We’ll share that story in the next reel. 👀✨

I moved to Fukuoka on September 1st from Germany on a Working Holiday visa and I'm living around Imaizumi/Tenjin. I work remotely as a freelance web designer, so my days are pretty flexible, which is great, but it also means I don't have a built-in office crew or classmates to hang out with.
I'm slowly learning Japanese from scratch (currently grinding Hiragana/Katakana), still finding my way around the city, and would love to meet other people here, whether that's fellow expats, other working holiday folks, or locals who want to practice English/German.
Up for grabbing food, exploring the city, going to events, or just a casual hangout. Also happy to chat if anyone's curious about the working holiday / freelance-from-Japan life.
Feel free to comment or DM me! :)
