Discussion Nikkori (にっこり) is a famous large-sized Japanese pear variety whose name literally translates to "smile" in Japanese. My brother-in-law’s mother sent some to my family and me as they’re grown this time of year.

Fruit ID Help These bananas taste terrible!

Post image
5 Upvotes

I bought these bananas in Indonesia and even the yellow ones taste terrible, and leave the most unpleasant dry feeling in the mouth. I’ve never had a banana like this before! Are they supposed to be cooked or prepared somehow before eating?

Just moved into a house with a citrus tree! General poll with the family has been grape fruit. Some have ripened and are pretty small? Doesn’t smell sweet, i haven’t tried the juice yet but love some opinions!

Edibility / Problem Can I still eat longans past their prime?

I've got some longans is my fridge that I couldn't eat at time and some are getting a little shriveled. I ate one that was slightly smaller than usual but it smelled and tasted the same. The texture was maybe slightly more jello like? But not too different. Can I eat the slightly shriveled/soft shelled longans?

I eat some fruits past their prime too and I wanted to make sure it was okay with longans too

Edibility / Problem Can eating a lot of cantaloupe make your mouth feel tingly?

I love cantaloupe and have eaten it my entire life now. I’m an adult. I got a mini cantaloupe today and I just cut it open. I ate nearly the whole thing in one sitting, there’s three slices left.

I started eating a slice and all of a sudden I realized that my mouth and throat felt a little tingly, almost itchy. I’ve never had this reaction to cantaloupe before, so I don’t think it’s an allergy? I’ve had lots of allergy tests and have never been allergic to any kind of food.

Can eating a lot of cantaloupe make your mouth feel itchy? Don’t tell me I just developed an allergy😭 is this like a pineapple type of situation where eating a lot will make your mouth feel weird? Someone please explain this mystical cantaloupe to me.

Fruit ID Help Found these online -- what are these called?

I'm only 90% sure this is a fruit -- it might be something else. Anyone know what it is? It was super sweet and juicy.

Fruit ID Help Well this clearly isn't a feijoa. What is it?

Post image

Was really excited to find what I thought were feijoas in my grocery store. Asked if they were, was told yes, and eagerly bought a pound to turn into jam.

These are pretty hard with a big pit in the center. Fruit is very fibrous and a little sweet and tangy. Can't really compare it to another fruit tbh
