I recently came across a prototype steam machine online and it was pointed out it has a type of display out port that accepts a HDMI/DisplayPort inside the same port.
From a quick google search it shows it is a "REGO Electronics HDMI/DisplayPort 2-in-1 Connector".
It would be awesome to try and build a module that can fit this connector. But i have no experience in circuit board design. While i do have a soldering iron it is not a high end one and i have never used it for actually soldering.
It might be a good idea as i have no idea if it would actually work by the looks of it there would need to be a way to know what type of cable is plugged in.

I've owned my Framework 13 for about, I want to say, 3 years now? During those years I've absolutely loved it and recommended it to everyone and a family member bought 2 FW12 less than 3 months ago and have sent these photos.
The cracking is pretty bad and is present on both laptops starting around the same time, they have already made a support ticket and have started the back and forth process with customer service, but I wanted to ask some questions here.
Is this common on FW12? I saw a few posts about it but I thought they had fixed this or are they shipping out shells with known defective plastic?
And how has everyone else's FW12 laptops been, is this just a stroke of bad luck or is this a more common issue, one laptop also gets more hot then normal when charging so it seems they hit some bad luck?

Hey everyone! I've been building Framework Control since August 2025, and after 17 releases, 0.5.5 is one of the biggest updates yet.
The biggest additions:
One upgrade note: existing fan calibrations need to be recorded again, because calibration is now stored separately for each fan.
Framework Control is a free and open-source local app for controlling and monitoring Framework laptops and the Framework Desktop on Linux and Windows. It includes fan curves, sensors, power controls, battery controls, telemetry history, and more.
GitHub and installation instructions: https://github.com/ozturkkl/framework-control Existing installs can update from within the app.
Framework Community thread: https://community.frame.work/t/framework-control-linux-windows-a-tool-for-fan-control-curve-sensors-power-control-battery-information/74533
Feedback and bug reports are very welcome!

This is not a troubleshooting post, I just need to make sure everything is alright.
So a few days ago I received my Framework 13 and I’m in love with it! I am primarily a desktop PC user at home, but I needed to upgrade my old laptop as I study game development and it was no longer in par with the stuff I needed to use it for. I specifically got the AI 300 Series and I run Linux (Manjaro) on it.
As I started to use it, I noticed the heat that’s being produced even while doing minor tasks like browsing web. Every time I stopped using it and was putting it into my bag, it was quite hot to touch in the middle right above the keyboard. I am aware that computers run relatively hot, and that it’s okay for it to be at ~40°C on regular use and even up to 90°C on more intensive tasks, but as I’m a desktop user, I’m often shielded by the case and such temperatures are mostly just numbered abstractions. My old laptop was also heating up quite a lot, especially in the last year or so, but I assumed that it’s because it was old and dying. I kinda expected for the Framework laptop to run cool because of how powerful it is. I don’t know why, but I had this mindset that it wouldn’t heat up that much because the cores are under such small load.
I now tried to play Dorfromantik, which isn’t an intensive game by any means, and my laptop started to get incredibly loud, which sucks when I’m at a lecture for example. I ran it on balanced mode so that’s why. The fans calmed down when I switched on the power saving mode, but even then the laptop was still heated up, which made it uncomfortable to have it on my lap. I assume that big part of this is the metal chassis and this is the intended behaviour, to act as a heat sink, but I’d like to check with you guys if this is okay, because as I said, not that big of a laptop user prior, used it mostly when I had to. I really want to start doing more stuff on my laptop now, because this one is actually very capable and I really like the idea of Frameworks so I’m no longer that afraid of overusing it because future repairs and upgrades won’t be that expensive as if I had to buy a whole new laptop.
And I’m sorry if this question is dumb.

Basically what the title says, I don't need faster Wi-Fi and you can't currently buy the recommended one on their site so wanted too know if anyone has tired the AMD RZ616 Wi-Fi 6E (MediaTek MT7922) Card?, its the default card from the AMD 7000 series Frameworks

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to give a shout out to the Framework service team. I know that most people only complain about bad experiences and good experiences are seldomly publicized. Reading on this sub, I got the impression, that FW customer service must be horrendous.
I got a FW13 with AMD chip more than three years ago with which I was very happy. Recently the battery started to bloat and I read, that it was a faulty series of batteries.
So I contacted customer service (even if I was out of the extended warranty for that case), got an answer for more details, which I provided. Another 30min later I already had the approved shipping for a new battery at no cost. The week after, I received the battery and am a happy FW customer again!
Thanks to the Framework service team, for managing that case fast and flawlessly!

I just got my bath preparation notification for the fw 13 pro (Intel), and was wondering how well the 6.12 kernel is running on Debian on the Panther Lake Processors. Has anyone here tried running Debian on them yet? (Or really anything using the 6.12.x kernel?)

Hi All! I got a replacement Ryzen AI 9 370 HX for my framework 13 due to a bad usbc port. I did an exact swap and I noticed that my CPU temps are about 10C-15C higher for each power profile setting on CachyOS since the swap. I want to take off the heatsink and redo the thermal paste, so I am looking for suggest on which thermal paste to use and which pattern you went with that worked. Any other suggestions on what I should do and look at I would love to hear. FYI putting the laptop on a cooling pad does bring the temps down by about 5C.

This is something minor but has been driving me nuts since I got my 13 Pro X7. KDE would not properly report GPU usage and would just show it as 0% no matter what.
KDE 6.8 adds Intel Xe driver support so System Monitor and widgets show accurate usage now
UPDATE: Welp, ironically the same helper that enables this is now killing battery life as it won't let the GPU sleep. I made a bug report to KDE. I would strongly reccomend against updating to 6.8 until its resolved. My idle draw has more then doubled due to this and laptop stays warm while closed now.
If you do update, run pkill -x ksystemstats_xe to stop the helper. This kills it until a restart.

Why are the upgrade kits not available still? These were advertised at the Framework 13 Pro announcement, and still show as 'register interest' on the website to this date. I just want to take my existing laptop 13 and upgrade it to the Pro, instead of having to buy a whole new laptop. I hope I am just missing something.

Anyone know where I can find the Wifi module?
https://frame.work/products/intel-wi-fi-7-be211-no-vpro
Shows out of stock. Just wondering if there is another source for this.
It seems as though the module in my 13th Gen Intel won't work. If I am wrong about that happy to keep that one since I don't have any Wifi 7 anyway.
Any tips appreciated.

Just got a Framework 16 in two weeks ago. Ryzan AI 350, 32GB of ram and RTX 5070.
Within the first week I started getting intermittent keyboard cutouts. Especially annoying during gaming. I updated the drivers and bios, and swapped the positions of all input devices to no avail. I opened a support ticket, and had an excellent experience!
I told them what the issue was, accompanied by video of the issue happening. Told them about my attempted remedies. To my amazement, they actually read my fix attempts instead of just repeating that I should update bios, etc.
They asked for pictures of boxes and input modules, and within 3 messages determined I needed a new midplate, keyboard, numpad, and touchpad. So far so good.
Average response time 12 hours, really happy with their work.

For everyone with a 13 Pro, how is the fan noise? I mean when its really going. My fan only ever runs when I do some really heavy stuff like gaming, otherwise its completely silent which I'm very happy with. BUT, when the fan does start it is very loud and it almost sounds like its not running "clean".. Kinda like when you put a pokemon card in your bike wheel as a kid to make it sound like a motorcycle.
Anyone else experiencing this? Should I just open it up and try to clean it or is this just how the fan is?

Hey everyone! I created this wallpaper for my Framework 13 using NASA’s Artemis II photos, adding a star field and a subtle Framework logo in the bottom-right corner.
I love the detail of the Moon’s cratered surface, with the small crescent Earth peeking out behind it. I kept plenty of dark space to give the desktop a clean, uncluttered feel, while the stars add a little extra depth.
Original photography credit goes to NASA; the wallpaper composition, added star field and Framework branding are my edits.

Some of you may have seen my other post about a failed bios update bricking my FW 13. FW have been really good and have offered me a replacement mainboard free of charge, but I noticed on the shipping details that they are shipping an AI 5 340 instead of a 7640U.
Whilst having an older board replaced with a newer board initially feels like a win, I noticed the slight drop in graphics performance of the 340 compared to the 7640U.
I realise the FW 13 is not intended to be a gaming laptop, and I’m not doing anything heavy duty with it, but I am curious whether the difference will be noticeable?
Or am I being dumb and missing something?

Are there any suggestions for a third-party power supply for the Framework 13 Pro that have a grounding pin? All that I'm finding from reputable brands (Anker, Ugreen) are ungrounded and I've read a lot of anecdotal posts about how bad the tingle can be with the 13 pro chassis.
Though basically all options outside of larger docking stations don't have that third pin. There are a variety of no-name ones on Amazon (Like this example here), and it seems fine to me on paper and via reviews, but every post on this seems to advise sticking to an Anker or Ugreen. Any advice?

Hi!
I have been loving my 13 pro. However, I have been getting this line across the screen that I can't seem to wipe off. Even if I use iso alcohol, it stays there.
I am thinking it is from the keyboard when the laptop is closed. Are other people getting this? How are you preventing it? Is there a good way to remove the line that is already there?
Thanks!!!

GPU is quite a bit better than 13th Gen. 50% in DoTA and 2x increase in Rocket League 1% lows. Battery life is good as nearly double. 20-30% faster CPU in both ST and MT. So the single channel memory was hampering 13th Gen and FW12 more than expected.
Some quotes:
It had a surprisingly low performance ceiling, too, where it struggled to play Fortnite, surely table stakes for a computer aimed at kids. Thankfully, the power efficient, cool and muscular grunt of the Core Series 3 has taken a sledgehammer to that ceiling. This is not the same underpowered machine that went on sale for too much money over a year ago.
Fortnite hums along on high-res graphics, as does Hardspace: Shipbreaker, hardly a low-power title despite its age. The acid test, however, was Cyberpunk: 2077, which I'm delighted to say it was able to run perfectly well. Of course, it was using the lowest graphics settings available, but there wasn't a single skipped frame or stutter. I'm not a hard-nosed gaming aesthete, so I found it eminently playable, and if this was the only machine I had, I'd be happy with the performance.

My 13 Pro, and first Framework laptop, finally arrived yesterday after a 6 month wait. It's a beautiful piece of hardware and feels so solid to use. Couldn't be happier with my choice!

I need help making a decision. I currently use MBP M1 pro with 16gb RAM and 512 SSD. I am thinking of either upgrading or going to Linux. I want to know how this laptop compares with Macbooks. The configuration I was looking at is the 13 Pro with Ultra x7 358H, 32 RAM and 1TB SSD. How is the fan noise, are on most of the time or are they silent when just browsing/watching something; how is the screen compared to the mac and are the speakers comparable or at least decent? Performance will probably be good so I'm not really worried there

I've had it for two weeks and I can pretty confidently say it's my favorite laptop I've ever used.
