Question FW12 Shell cracking ?
I've owned my Framework 13 for about, I want to say, 3 years now? During those years I've absolutely loved it and recommended it to everyone and a family member bought 2 FW12 less than 3 months ago and have sent these photos.
The cracking is pretty bad and is present on both laptops starting around the same time, they have already made a support ticket and have started the back and forth process with customer service, but I wanted to ask some questions here.
Is this common on FW12? I saw a few posts about it but I thought they had fixed this or are they shipping out shells with known defective plastic?
And how has everyone else's FW12 laptops been, is this just a stroke of bad luck or is this a more common issue, one laptop also gets more hot then normal when charging so it seems they hit some bad luck?

Yeah, if you tighten the screws down too much that happens. Only using thumb and index finger to tighten the screw is the recommendation I’ve seen.
It’s also just a manufacturing problem sometimes, they’ll replace it under warranty.

Happened to mine to but idc mostly because it was absolute hell to get it to me and I live in the USA so I don't want to go go through hell RMAing it if it becomes a problem I just buy a new bottom cover

Their RMA of my cracked bottom cover was pain less. Just provided my initial set of pictures, next the requested pictures and then they confirmed shipping address once the RMA was approved which was same day of sending in the requested pictures.
Now the shipping experience is most likely different from yours. I had to wait for the replacement bottom cover to be shipped from the USA into Canada. I was expecting a slow shipping process but I was pleasantly impressed that it arrived with in the 2 weeks.

I think FedEx was to blame for my poor experience tbh framework support helped me very quickly I'm keeping the cracked bottom cover because it's not causing me any trouble right now

Its definitely an issue that we've seen posts about. Not as much recently, but that doesn't mean its not still a thing that still happens. Supposedly, Framework has made improvements that would prevent these happening as often. I knew about the reports of this when I bought my own, and I just made sure not to over-tightened the fasteners and it hasn't happened to mine yet (my kids use it primarily as I use my FW13).
Here the main thread about this in the Framework forums:

Yeah it's common on the FW12. Framework has been working on making this right for a while now.

Hit up support to get replacement parts and if they're slow to respond, tag "Eagle" in that thread for some faster assistance.
