Request: Refinement queues

Hi everyone, this post is addressed to the devs if they're listening. I'm playing the Harvest Festival expansion.

I would like to request the ability to program buildings (bakery, for example) to alternate between different recipes. For example, I would love to tell the building to create four breads (A) for every one pastry (B). I imagine the bakery UI would provide a queue (up to a maximum of, say, 5) with the option to repeat it. It would read as A,A,A,A,B, but in the game's icons of course.

Switching the production of a bakery regularly is tedious, especially when a common resource (flour) is shared between a high-demand refined food (bread) and a low-demand luxury food (pastries). Of course, towards the end-game demand between refined and luxury foods will become more balanced, and so building more bakeries that specialize in certain products will become necessary. But in the early and mid-game, I find myself overbuilding refinement facilities because I don't want to be constantly tweaking the production chain. This is primarily true for the bakery, butchery, and drying kiln.

I don't believe the devs intend this in their design, mainly because this was not an issue in the base-game due to production chains being very linear. This annoying aspect of gameplay has emerged with the expansion and I believe the addition of a queue to production building UI would reflect a QOL improvement rather than a fundamental design change.

Having a lot of fun otherwise! Thanks for the great DLC.

Bug report theory : path / dirt fading is bugged for 3x speed

• Upvotes

I saw theory because I'm one person but this has been true for me so far. I was searching and seeing mixed responses of people talking about the pathing / dirt fading quickly or slowly. An old post asked about game speed and it made me experiment.

I'm playing on 3x speed and have been waiting in game months for some pathing to disappear. I turned down the speed to 1x and within 10 minutes i could see a difference.
I'm also playing on challenge mode. Do we know if the resource regrowth rate effects the grass coming back? I could see it being either way. But it would be another reason for the discrepancy in player experience.

This is just one persons experience so I'm curious to hear if anyone else has felt the same.

Solved Refined food after DLC update?

Is there a list of the new refined food that is available after the Harvest Festival DLC? Or is there a way for me to determine that a particular food is refined or rustic?
For example, I assume dried fruit is refined. But I can only guess that this is the case if I follow a villager and see that her refined food need is met when she buys the dried fruit. Is there a way to determine it before hand?

Question Villagers always move into the same houses...

I build anything & assign workers and then I see the workers move into a home 300m away, even tho there is space for them in a house 30m away. Normal workers, no upgraded ones.

Since this is a problem for years, anyone know a mod or some trick to eliminate this really stupid problem? :O

Tips & Guides Welcome to my *Foundation* world. Today, I’m sharing how I create a city district - in words and pictures.

Hi everyone,

Now that my monastery serving as a food source and my city center with its bridges are in place, I need to plan the next areas. I intend to build transport, worker, and supply districts specifically in the area in front of the bridges.
To me, these represent small, compact zones where a lot of activity takes place. However, first we need to ...

Once we have purchased the area, the builders and the "Remove Resources" area marker will first clear everything away.
Planning using markers helps maintain an overview and align things. Anyone who gets high blood pressure from this should probably stop right here - it’s not going to get any better. Everyone plays the game the way they like and according to the available options. Fun is all that matters.
Next, we’ll sort out all the necessary military buildings we need. This is hugely important, especially regarding the gates and bridges. However, we’ll also see that things are subject to change take, for instance, the single archway down by the water.
This step usually only happens in my head. I'm already planning the tasks in this area and thinking about which buildings I would like to have there. A market place, a tavern, food production, a forester, etc. As you can see, 2 fishermen are now being created below and for this I need 2 entrance gates.
I’m arranging the military buildings, and if my zone is supposed to have a specific city center, that gets built too. I’ve moved all the other buildings off to the right for you.
When positioning buildings, you may find that the contact points do not align with the designated lines. This is particularly frustrating with military buildings intended to form the perimeter, as the construction layout lacks clear lines. Instead, use other buildings such as those from the worker faction to identify which contact points fit perfectly, and briefly snap the two together. Now we can move the gate freely with perfect contact points.
Next comes the planning of the walls. I am a fan of double walls arranged in opposing directions to create a more attractive appearance.
Once the majority of an area is enclosed by a wall and suitable gates, the entire interior is considered guarded. Depending on the type of wall or rampart used, the result will be either light or heavy guarding.
The forester in an area creates a realistic look using natural trees. If you use the areas with the circle brush size set to +3, berries will even grow there. You can also employ woodcutters and charcoal burners there - which is what I’ll be doing here.
Then, additional buildings are added to the area. Wells, fishermen's huts, a market, and a tavern are already in place. Warehouses and production buildings follow. You can either mark out the areas for the houses beforehand or ...
... you build it around afterwards. As you can see, the forester has already started.
From now on, people can be relocated from old areas. This is how our first, simple houses are built. In my case, right at the start, that makes 7 × 2 = 14 serfs.
As soon as you send your first soldiers out on patrol, the houses can be upgraded.
In my case, two patrols handle this job covering seven houses in total. One group walks the right side and the other the left, and their paths overlap at the house in the top right corner. So, that’s four houses per squad. The living area of 14 now becomes 7 x 10 = 70.
Fill empty spaces with decorations, the Forester, or the Harvest Festival to ...
... to get a natural impression of your area ...
... and lots of fun playing the game.

If any of these things helped you, please let me know and as always, feel free to ask questions at any time.

Greetings
SirUratak

I'm aware that I haven't made full use of the DLC yet, and this is very much a work in progress.

This is my first real attempt at building several smaller settlements instead of 1 big town with several districts. Right now I have around 320 residents. Happiness is at 85% and I have an excess of nearly everything. Money is no object at all. Eventually I aim to build a larger fortified city with castle pieces throughout on the hill in the background.

I'd love any and all feedback!

First time trying a City Builder simulation, have access to two DLCs (through Steam family sharing), should I enable them on my 1st playthough?

TLDR: Title

I had an itch for a city-builder game, and luckily someone in my Steam family has this, plus the two DLCs (Guivre Garden and Harvest Festival), and he won't play it for a while.

I am a complete beginner who played some city builders maybe 10 years ago, of which I don't even remember the names. So when I started this game, it gave me the option to either enable or disable the DLCs, and I can't decide. For other options, I will just go through the classic/default ones, as some posts in this sub have suggested.

Should I enable them in my first (and maybe my only) playthrough? Or do they make it too complex for a newbie and thus better for a next playthrough?

Discussion Just bought Foundation and it’s DLC. It’s downloading as I post this. I love city builders and games like Manor Lords, Stellaris & Cities Skylines so I’m thinking I’ll like this. The community seems really nice so I’m looking forward to learning the game and interacting with everyone here 🙌

Tips for festival

I see a lot of questions regarding the festival organization, so here is a few tips on how to unlock all tiers.

How do festival points works ?

Points are awarded for each festival participant need fulfill (I do not know if it is more than 1 but it does not matter).

How villagers participate to the festival ?

They need to have their home in the festival decoration area (in blue), so be sure to cover every single house, dorms, and barracks to have all your population participate in the festival.

How needs works ?

  • Each villager has festival meal, festival drink and festival entertainment needs.
  • Once a need if fulfill it cannot be fulfill anymore, this mean that there is a maximum to the points you can earn depending on total population.
  • Villagers needs vary according to their types :
    • Serfs, novices and militias have few needs (iirc it is 1 meal, 1 drink, 2 entertainments)
    • Commoners, brothers, sister and soldiers have more needs (iirc 2 meals, 2 drinks, 3 entertainements)
    • Citizen, Prior and Knights have maximum needs (iirc 3 meals, 3 drinks, 3 entertainements)

How to get more points ?

According to the statement above, we have many ways to increase total points we can earn from a festival.

  1. Try to have only one tavern kitchen and one tavern counter.
  2. Build 2 granaries with their extensions near your tavern, and have them stock all meals ingredients and drinks you will need for the recipes you choose.
  3. Place a lot of tables near the tavern kitchen, cooks are pretty efficient but they need tables to drop their production.
  4. Place a lot of drink posts near the tavern counter, this way taverner won't have to walk to far to drop the drinks.
  5. Always hire best entertainers you have access to (wait for the gold if necessary), have at least 5 jugglers sites, ministrel stage and theater, place a lot of archery, apple pool, etc., they count has festival decorations.
  6. Get more population, this is pretty obvious because more villagers = more needs to fulfill = more points.
  7. Promote your villagers, again => more needs to fulfill = more points.
  8. Have more cooks (increasing size of tavern kitchen also increase input resources storage so cooks have less travels to do to the granaries).
  9. Have more taverners.

The 4 first advices (in bold) are very important to have successful festivities, having spread kitchens is very inefficient.

Example

Here is my town I built for achievement completion playthrough.

With this setup I achieve 1500 points in challenge mode to unlock all the achievements.

On the picture above, you can see that :

  • [Blue square] I have built 3 granaries behind the tavern, one for all the drinks (berry brew, cider, beer and wine) and 2 for meals ingredients near my tavern complex.
  • [Green square] I placed all my tables and drink posts very close to the tavern.
  • [Red square] these tables were only filled near the end of the festival and were pretty useless.
  • [Yellow square] I placed entertainment sites far because villagers can fulfill these needs pretty easily once they have fulfill their other needs (meals and drinks).

Have fun and I hope it helps some of you !

Hello!

I've made a small program that lets you view and extract Foundation game files for perusal.
You can preview 3d models, textures, and materials, see how the different prefabs are laid out, and export files.

I plan on adding more functionality in the future, but for now I hope you enjoy :)
Let me know if you run into any issues or have any suggestions

Hello again, my Lords and Ladies! I've been working on making my little medieval town as compact and cozy as possible, experimenting with layering, different elevations, and squeezing buildings into every available corner while keeping everything looking natural and lively. My goal is to create a dense, organic town where every little street, courtyard, and hidden corner feels like it belongs. There's still plenty to improve and explore! I'd love to hear what you think! Any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas are always welcome.

Question Any Tips for the 1500 Festival Achievement?

So far I can't figure out how this things actually works. I have 440 attending. Three invites and the King, Potential score of 2200 but only hitting around 1150.

I have 18 people in the Tavern Kitchen. 5 Different types of meals, 8 Large Meal tables.

A Granary right outside with with the four drink types. 8 Large Drink tables that don't seem to be getting all full.

Max entertainment spots + 8 Archery ranges, 8 Hay tosses, & 6 Apple bobbing.

It keeps telling me 'Serve more Meals', 'Serve more Drinks', 'Place more entertainment'. But the ones I have now aren't even full being used and I have 18 Tavren staff. I'm only ASSUMING it's the Tavren staff that bring the food and drinks out to the tables too becasue it's not really explained. I Don't even know what the little green Green circles that empty MEAN.

I've been trying this for a good 15 hours at this point.
