Question I found a fishing pole that doesn't exist

I'm not very knowledgeable about fishing gear, so I thought I would turn to you guys for help.

I found this old fishing pole in a shop that my friend asked me to clean out and this thing looks ancient. It says "King Gaster" on it. (No, not caster, gaster) I tried to google it but I couldn't find any relevent results!?

Can someone help me figure out how old this thing is? (And maybe it's value, cough cough) Thanks in advance! :D

P.S. The reel that came with it says 'Real Reels, Goite' on it. It looks equally old.

St Croix Avid

Set the hook last night and the thing exploded right above to the handle. You'd expect more from a rod that's $240.

Still got the pike in though.

Question Looking for a Heavy-Power Travel Rod Under $250 (6'6"–7')

I'm looking for a travel fishing rod with fast action and heavy power, around 6'6" to 7' long. The longest section needs to be no more than 50–55 cm, and my budget is $250max.

I've been looking at the Bone BXC664H, but unfortunately, it's out of stock at all the online stores that ship to my country. Does anyone have any recommendations for similar rods?

The reel reels forwards and backwards on my Shimano Nasci 2500hg. This model doesnt have the toggle lever for the anti reverse, so all sources point to a problem with the anti reverse clutch. I checked the bearings and springs and they seem fine.

Prinsu rack

I bought my truck used with a prinsu rack and have never used it. I have a camper shell in the back that’s built out a bit, so not ideal for transporting longer rods, and was wondering if anyone has any products they liked that are compatible with the prinsu racks/suggestion for rod transportation with these? Thanks!

Looking for this lure

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I lost a nice lure I liked today, I’m only just starting out fishing and this was just in the fishing box from my aunt. I wanted to replace it but I’m having a hard time finding something like it because I don’t know exactly where she got it from.

It was silver, a long sort of spoon shape, maybe 3-4inches and had a bunch of holes in it that looked a little like bubbles. I found this vintage lure that is maybe the same one so I can show a photo. Is there anything similar around?

What actually matters in a baitcaster for heavy cover vs. casting all day?

I’m trying to dial in my baitcaster setups, and I’d rather hear from people who have put real time on their reels than just compare specs.

I mainly want to understand what changes between these three situations:

  1. Punching thick mats and pulling fish out of heavy cover What has actually mattered most for you once a fish is buried in grass: fast line pickup, cranking power, drag that stays locked down, handle length, or how solid the reel feels under load? Have you used a reel that felt great normally but started feeling weak, rough, or flexy when pulling against fish and grass?
  2. Repeated pitching and flipping around grass, docks, or wood What makes a reel noticeably better for short, accurate presentations? Spool startup, brake control, smooth line release, reel size, weight, or how it palms? Is there a reel that casts well at distance but feels awkward when pitching?
  3. Casting moving baits or search baits for several hours What starts bothering you first during a long day: reel weight, body width, balance, handle shape, retrieve resistance, or gear feel? How much weight difference can you actually notice after several hours?

I’m trying to figure out which features really matter in actual bass fishing, rather than what sounds good in a product description. Thanks!

Question Van staal vrII 25 size

Post image
36 Upvotes

I'm wondering if anyone has gotten their hands on the new Van Staal VRII 25 yet. I'm curious how it compares in physical size to the Daiwa BG 2500 or other similarly sized reels.

Are they roughly the same size, or is the VRII 25 noticeably bigger or smaller?

Are these combos worth getting for $200?

Found this online debating buying. Was 250 but got it down to 200 not sure if it’s worth it though.

This is what I’ve been told.
Both have been used and show some normal signs of use, but both work great and are ready to fish. No issues with either setup.
Included:
🎣 PENN Squall II Lever Drag Combo – Size 50

• Powerful lever drag setup
• Great for offshore/saltwater fishing
• Used but works great
• Solid setup for bigger fish

🎣 PENN Fierce IV 5000

• Great all-around saltwater/inshore reel
• Used with normal signs of wear
• Functions properly and is ready to fish

Question Is this rod a good buy

I wanted to get into using swimbaits and was planning on getting a new setup. I was wondering if the Savage Gear Battletek series swimbait casting was worth it. I saw it on tackle warehouse on sale for $130 when it’s normally $270. would this be worth it or is there other rods you would get at this price point.

2500shg vanquish or twinpower?

Looking to treat myself with a nice made in japan reel from digitaka, I've been using an old penn clash 2500 because i used to fish inshore in Florida, but have since moved to new england and only fish freshwater. I'm putting it on a medium light st croix avid series freshwater rod, and also a medium st croix avid series freshwater rod.

I'm leaning towards the twinpower because it seems like the sturdier reel, more durable, and what I'm used to after having a clash on the rods for so many years, but I'm open to the vanquish if that's the better pick.

I primarily catch bass, trout, perch, and whatevers biting lol!

What would you guys pick?
