Please use this thread for all discussion of which game you recommend others that you play, whether it is your first game or some that you are considering playing next
A note for newcomers: most of the games are completely unconnected. Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy IX, etc, are all completely different casts of characters in completely different universes. The only times you need to play another game to understand one is if it is distinctly set in the same universe - for example, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, or Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII. The titles will usually make it fairly clear which game's universe they are set in
Otherwise, please have fun! It is generally helpful when asking to briefly mention which ones you might be interested in, what platforms you are able to play on, and if you are a complete newcomer, what sort of things in games you're looking for (do you want turn-based combat, real time combat, deep stories with established characters, light stories that let you fill in some blanks with your imagination, etc)

I remembered those artworks exist thanks to someone sharing the wiki gallery with me, and i figured people may be interested to see them too.
I also technically have other Amano artworks but they would spoil things for new players so i won't share them here. If you don't care about spoilers at all, check my link in my account.

I got two in particular;
First one with Cait Sith from FFVII how he's pretty much betrayed the entire group, he did not do that out of nefarious reasons yet it was just too much to chew for me at the time, especielly due on how far they'd went with it in OG as he to top of that literally blackmailed Cloud and co with Marlene's a Barret daughter life. That was really fucked up for this series standards they'd tamed this plot point A LOT in a remake series tho.
Other than that in FFIV with Edge as he Cecil and Kain decided to go out on the final battle on moon without girls and pretty harshly demanded them to stay out of this. Edge was especially insufferable there going as far as to straight forward insult Rydia just to have her leave. I'd like to interpret that as him doing it out of care rather than out of being an ass for sake of it, as he cared abt her so much he goes as far to insult her just to have her out of harm way Cecil was pretty brash toward Rosa as well but he did out as he thought out of necessarity. Still i'm pretty much pissed at Edge for that to this very day even tho he's still my second fav FFIV character after Rydia.

Quite an unique choice for the composition but it looks cool. The focus clearly is Rain and his Crimson Saber rather than Cloud though.
Only one week left before the game comes out ! So, how will you acquire it ? Digitally ? Physically ? Maybe you even already obtained it like some people posted in the sub. Personally, i bought it physically and i only will be able to play around the 24th (thanks Amazon).

First time playing V (phenomenal btw) and was going for 100% run. The guide I was using made it sound like it was a really hard fight but over preparedness won in the end.

Thanks everyone for the amazing support on yesterday’s post about the first release of my Final Fantasy PSX Viewer!
Today I released a new update focused on Final Fantasy VII, and in particular on two minigames: Chocobo Racing and Snowboarding (while we wait for the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Revelation).
As you can see in the preview video, you can now view the wireframe, the original skydome, the track boundaries, and even have the camera follow the original path used by the minigame.
For Snowboarding, all the original variants are included: 4 different routes across 2 courses, covering both Story Mode and the Gold Saucer version.
Tomorrow I’ll probably focus on the Motorcycle and Submarine minigames.
Do you have any other ideas for the next update? Suggestions for Final Fantasy VIII and IX are welcome too!
You can try the viewer here: http://ff-viewer.andreacorriga.com/
Also, a quick question for the u/admin : would it be okay if I keep sharing occasional updates about the project here? I don’t want to overdo the self-promotion or clutter the subreddit, so I’d rather make sure it’s fine with you first.

So I started the ff4 puxel remaster recently. Only a few hours in. Is it just me or is ff4 harder than the others of the puxel remastered games? I'm not complaining but compared the ff1, 2 and 3 I'm noticing a considerable difficulty spike in 4. I also have not played 5 or 6 yet.

I've played the first 10 games so far, my picks are:
FF1: Black Mage, for its design alone, so incredibly iconic...
FF2: Minwu!! Awesome dude, love him...
FF3: Desch, cause I got a thing for stupid womanisers, and the classic haircut combo short hair in the front + ponytail
FF4: Yang really stuck out to me, he's so cool... HM to Kain and Cecil tho
FF5: FARIS I LOVE FARIS!!!! I'm in love with Faris, Faris is wonderful...
FF6: Cyan! I looove funny old men with a tragic story and he fits that great, he's amazing. HM to the Figaro Brothers, especially Sabin, he is really awesome and I love me some siblings dynamics
FF7: Aerith, man... I've had many FF7 favs between Cloud, Zack, Reno and Nanaki, but Aerith really stuck with me after playing Remake, she is very lovely
FF8: Laguna!! I have rarely been more excited playing a game than when I was finally going to see the president of Esthar and I knew it would be my glorious king Laguna, also he aged like fine wine, I was lowkey bracing myself for him to have turned chopped...
FF9: Vivi, my beautiful son Vivi, bringing back the classic Black Mage style in fashion, probably one of the best characters in GAMING lowkey... HM to Steiner and Freya, they are very awesome
FF10: Yuna, my beautiful fantastic amazing talented daughter Yuna-Tuna, I love her so so much

Greetings, all!
8-Bit Theatre was a webcomic parodying Final Fantasy I specifically and early Final Fantasy games in general. Many characters were named after their classes, despite every main character also getting a class change. The theme run is about adapting the abilities displayed by the comic characters into a 4-character party. It isn't a total 1:1 because some things simply do not apply.
In this theme run, each of the main characters (with Cara/Krile/Galuf being treated as one character) takes on the persona (and costumes) of one of the 8-Bit Theater characters.
The following is a list of FFV classes for each of the main characters in addition to their main class after which they're named. The character can freely multiclass among all their given classes once available, as well as Freelancer/Normal/Bare. I also assume the Game Boy Advance classes are available, since they're relevant, but they're optional.
Fighter: Faris by Default
- Black Mage: Casts fire as a spell once. The most dubious of Fighter's multiclass options and totally understandable if you skip this multiclass option.
- Monk: Counter attacks and super high HP if mastered.
- Ninja: Fighter dual wields.
- Ranger: Fighter is a master of all fighting styles, and if anyone in the cast is worthy of X-Fight, Fighter is.
- Samurai: Fast enough to block sand thrown in Black Mage's direction. Also uses Drizz'l's nonstandard swords. Finally, a Fighter phrase is, "I like swords."
- Gladiator: A totally logical late-game upgrade focused on doing lots of damage and attracting trouble.
Red Mage: Lenna by Default
- White Mage: He's the comic's main healer, and he should get a class from the first crystal.
- Beastmaster: Repeated and vigorous use of "animal husbandry."
- Mime: Explicit class promotion.
- Mystic Knight: Red Mage is a melee fighter as well as a caster. Mystic Knight blends swordplay and spells.
- Time Mage: Spammed haste on a zombie dragon.
- Cannoneer: Claims to understand spaceships and physics. Also, look at that outfit!
Thief: Galuf by Default
- Ninja: His class promotion is into Ninja.
- Samurai: Obsessed with money and has Japanese/Oriental associations.
- Time Mage: He stole his class change from himself in the future!
- Oracle: He knew when to steal his class change from himself in the future!
Black Mage: Butz by Default
- Blue Mage; Explicit class change.
- Summoner: Black Mage had summoning training.
- Necromancer: He took over Lich's role as ruler of Hell. Also, look at that outfit!
Thankee! Enjoy!

So I'm not sure if it's the pc port or my Xbox ally. But it'll flash and if I hit the button before about .05sec it doesn't count it. I've cleared this on ps3 switch switch2 ps4 and a emulator of ps2. Never had this issue before. Anyone on pc port have this problem or is it just me?

Hi! I’m just starting to get into piano covers and thought I’d share what I worked on today! One of my favorite melodies in gaming. I tried to add a bit of my personal taste to the arrangement. Hope somebody likes it lol

Let me start off by saying..
Yes it's grindy. Yes the plot is silly and cringe at times, yes it's repetitive. Yes the cast is forgettable and the levels are confusing/poorly designed.
But is it fun? Absolutely. Is it campy? Of course. And you can PUNCH/KICK things to death. You can literally play any of the Jobs from the mainline series and even mix/match some.
If you can look past the grindfest and cheese though the cringe story, it's a very very satisfying Souls/Diablo clone.
Jack is a ridiculous character but he is probably one of the most badass characters to date. He is literally THE villain of final fantasy (Sepiroth who?)
You can punch skeletons to death. You can punch goblins to death. There are iconic FF weapons in the game you can find as references like Save The Queen or Excalibur as well as each level being a reference to a game all the way up to XV
The game is a love letter to FF and the child of FF x NIOH. Nobody can deny that, it even has Gilgamesh in the DLC
The game really doesn't hold up to the lore of the original game but that's explained way later. The issue is the game's difficulty, it's BRUTAL. They even had to add a cheese it mode to help players struggling but when you beat those difficult enemies holy crap it feels amazing. The dopamine rush is great.
A lot of players never even got to experience the DLC because it is punishing and requires you to play on the highest difficulty. But it's insane how much FF they can reference and pack into it (including hidden bosses)
I really hate how nobody talks about the game or praises it despite its faults. The game needed more time in the oven that's for sure. But what it does it does damn well and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it and I'm still occasionally playing it to 100%
Where else can I call a bully a Lich and punch it to death or suplex a Tonberry?
