Questions Benjamin and Anna's dynamic in The Innocents (2021)
I just watched this Norwegian movie "The Innocents" at my local cinema, and it turned out to be one of the most horrifying movies I've ever seen. I know it's not a popular one, but I'm hoping to have someone explain what is with Benjamin and Anna. There are several things I'd like to understand, like why Benjamin cried once he got back home, banging on the door and screaming after Anna seemed to 'defeat' him. Does this mean that Anna is more powerful than Benjamin, and if so, what did Anna actually do to him with her telekinesis?

Discussion What do you think of the New French Extremity?
What are your thoughts on New French Extremity? Do you think it's a genuinely interesting movement in cinema, or is it just about trying to shock the audience? Which films did you enjoy the most, and which ones do you think are overrated? I'd love to hear your opinions.

Questions Does kristoffer borgli's Manhattan comparison hold up? trying to figure out how i read it
Trying to split two questions in borgli's 2012 essay. Is his read of Manhattan convincing? and would that read even back up his point?
For the second one i'm not sure it does, but open to other reads.
Letâs say I grant that the movie makes Isaac's relationship look romantic. ok? that still doesn't settle if a real relationship is a good idea. a movie picks whose eyes you see through. it gets the skyline, the music, the clever lines. real people don't get that edit.
The essay goes from "friends were worried" to "the movie changed how I saw it." That's the step I'm trying to follow.
I don't need Manhattan to be some neat critical film for this, it could be 100% sincere and i'd still have the same question. Am I missing a step here?

Questions [Acedemic] I need ur opinion on animation movie styles for my final year dissertation
I'm an Animation & VFX student doing my dissertation on different styles of 3D animation.
I'd love to hear from both everyday viewers and artists/animators! Do you prefer stylized animation that looks like drawings or comics, or more realistic-looking 3D?
If you have 2 minutes, please fill out my anonymous survey. All opinions are welcome, even if you have no experience in animation!

Discussion Whatâs your favourite film and why?
For me itâs American Beauty. It's the type of film I'd write and direct. The message, subtext etc never ceases to amaze me. I relate to it so much. Every time I watch it I have a different experience, a nuanced experience. It's not one of those films that blow your mind, the deeper meaning may also go over your head but here's the kicker. In 1999, Hollywood released three unique films. All different in genre and story but metaphysically it's the exact same concept. The Matrix, Fight Club and American Beauty. All three films feature a protagonist who is fighting against the system, fighting for freedom which leads to some form of enlightenment or transcendence by unlocking the full power of their subconscious mind.

Discussion Phantasm Series (And Ranking)
Not sure how many Horror fans are here and am wondering how many fans of this series are here. Always been one of my very favorite Horror series if not my outright favorite, mainly purely based off of the first two although I also think the third and fourth ones were pretty good as well (and also quite impressive despite their small budgets). The first two always see regular rotation from me every October as part of my Halloween playlist and the season never feels complete without them. The Tall Man is definitely among the more unique of the Horror icons and he was played to perfection by the late, great Angus Scrimm throughout all five. The series is such a great blend of surrealism and mind-bending Horror with some fun Action elements sprinkled throughout. And who doesn't love the iconic flying death spheres.
May as well rank them while I'm at it. For other fans, how would you rank them? Mine goes:
- Phantasm II
- Phantasm
- Phantasm IV: Oblivion
- Phantasm III: Lord Of The Dead
- Phantasm V: Ravager
2 has always very easily been my favorite of the series. It's literally not only my favorite Horror film, but one of my favorite movies in general. With the bigger budget you can tell so much more was able to be accomplished. It's like a vintage Survival Horror video game from the 90s as a movie. I have a lot of love and respect for the original as well, but it's always hard not to look at 2 as being the definitive entry.
The first two are classics, 3 and 4 are very good, but the fifth was sadly clearly held back by the very low budget. You can tell they tried their best but the budget and means just weren't there to do it justice. Still, I'm glad we finally got a fifth and final movie, and in light of Reggie Bannister's recent passing, it definitely hits much harder. Still so sad by his passing :(

Questions What movie made you feel like you completely wasted your time watching it?
You know those movies where you keep watching because you think it's going to get better, then the ending comes and you're just sitting there wondering why you didn't turn it off earlier? đ
What's that one movie you wish you could get those two hours of your life back from?

Discussion Whatâs a movie you could never watch a second time?
For me, itâs Requiem for a Dream. I watched it once and that was enough for me. The way it shows addiction and how it slowly destroys people was just so depressing. I kept thinking about it even after the movie ended. Maybe it also hit me harder because I watched it when I was a teenager. Itâs a great movie, but I have absolutely no desire to put myself through that again lol.
Whatâs that one movie for you?

Weller and Davis later starred together again in The New Age. Always thought they made a great onscreen duo.

Recommendation Fun Horror & Simple Spooks
I have baseball to keep up with at night but while I'm doing meal prepping, cleaning, some light work... I want to get in the spooky mood. I have just about every streaming service but I've been really appreciating Tubi lately, I need suggestions for all but Tubi is just swell.
Gimme spooks and campy horror, ones I don't have to solve and might chuckle at! Simple monster flicks like Placid would be fine, but halloween themes are ideal đ€đŒđ
ETA: slashers are a waste of time.

Discussion Can Steven Spielberg not properly portray children? (War of the Worlds, Jurassic Park)
Yesterday I rewatched Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds from 2005 with Tom Cruise. The kids in the movie were so annoying and I found myself asking, is this REALLY how children behave? I thought, NO! I experienced something like this in another rewatch, also from Steven Spielberg: Jurassic Park. To me it just feels unrealistic to have such annoying children around that behave in a way I cannot believe to be real behaviour. I also was a child once, I saw how other children acted around me. The children in his movies are like fantasy children, but in a realistic setting.
Am I wrong or is Steven Spielberg just incredibly out of touch with children? Maybe he had an especially terrible time as a child (or as an adult with his children)? What do you think?
