20M
I’ve been focusing my new contributions to XEQT alone that’s why it’s relatively down compared to VFV.

Is that even possible or does it have to be converted into CAD

Hey everyone!
I’m 23, recently graduated university and just started investing.
I’m a firm believer in AI and tech being the future, hence why my portfolio leans heavily towards those sectors. I’m investing for the long term and plan to add more XEQT for diversification.
Would love some honest opinions on my portfolio. What would you change?

Hey guys! I’m new to this group and investing in general, so please bear with me lol.
A little backstory: I grew up very poor and just turned 28. I’m really trying to become more financially responsible, build wealth, and give my children opportunities I didn’t have growing up.
I recently opened a TFSA and a family RESP through TD for my four children, who are all under five. I believe I selected the high-risk investment option for both accounts because I’m planning to leave the RESP invested for at least 13 years and my TFSA for at least 5+ years(unless there’s an emergency like my car breaking down bc I don’t finance vehicles).
Here’s where I’m a little lost…I don’t actually know how to start investing?
I’m not sure how to deposit money into my TFSA, whether TD automatically invests it for me, or if I’m supposed to be purchasing stocks, ETFs, or mutual funds myself.
Does anyone here invest through TD? I’d love to hear how you got started, what type of investment account you use, and whether you’d recommend TD’s managed investment options or something more self-directed.
I’m currently in school for accounting, and I’m really trying to educate myself about finances so I can eventually pass that knowledge down to my children. I was pretty much left to figure everything out on my own growing up, and I want to change that for the next generation.
I’m open to any advice, recommendations, or resources you guys think would be helpful!
Hope everyone’s having a great day! 🫶🏻

I’m 25M living in Canada, currently working as a cybersecurity consultant making around $80k a year. I also have one semester of school left before I finish my degree.
Financially, I’m in a ok position for my age:
$80k/year employment income
$50k invested in stocks
$30k in cash that I’m considering using to start a business or side hustle
Very low living expenses since I still live with my family. My only real expenses are related to my car.
My goal is to use this opportunity to build another source of income outside my 9–5 and eventually grow it into a legitimate business. Since I don’t have rent or many other major expenses, I feel like this is a good time to take calculated risks and invest in something with real potential before I eventually move out and have more financial responsibilities.
One idea I’ve been considering is buying and flipping cars through auctions. Buy them at auction, and resell them for a profit. However, I’m still researching how the process works in Canada and whether the margins are actually worth it after accounting for repairs, auction fees, taxes, and other costs.
I’m open to other ideas, too. Ideally, I’d like something I can start alongside my current job.

So happy with some news that can’t be shared with anyone in real life. 700k after the market close feels surreal after basically working nonstop out of university 15 years ago. With about 100k in home equity and 100k in my cars, it truly feels like I’ve hit the target.
I grew up in a poor and frugal family, I don’t think I’ll ever shake off ingrained habits like analyzing prices on a menu and mass stocking up on groceries that are on sale. BUT I’m also looking forward to a new way of life and spending most of my leftover money after expenses and not feel bad or guilty about it!! (maybe starting January haha)

Hey guys, I’m 18 and building out my long-term strategy. Since I follow Islamic guidelines, I have to screen my investments to make sure they are Halal before buying in.
In short, I have to avoid companies that engage in:
Instead of manually sorting through stocks, I use the Wealthsimple Halal portfolio (WSHR), which automatically manages my portfolio and handles all the halal screening for me.

23M here, starting investing after I graduated university last year (would have liked to start earlier unfortunately but time in the market is the key hey?). I currently have an FHSA and TFSA. Planning to meet with financial advisor soon to discuss where I am at investment wise as I chose to manage both these accounts myself instead of having someone else do it for me (I wanted to learn about what goes into the investment of my money instead of letting someone else do the work). I invest small amounts ($100-$300 monthly) with occasional lump sum deposits as well.
In my Wealthsimple TFSA, I currently hold ZBAL, ZGRO, and a singular share of CASH.TO. I hold ZBAL for the moderate risk of it, I have seen some good returns with that. I began shifting my portfolio slightly more aggressively and also started holding ZGRO, my reasoning for this was the high bond percentage which has also given some excellent returns and I do want a little bit more volatility but I'm not comfortable with being extremely aggressive yet. 60% of my portfolio is now ZGRO and 37% is ZBAL.
I hold CASH.TO as it was the first ETF I was recommended to buy because of it's dividend yield but I haven't put any more than a solid $50 in it as I pivoted to focusing on my other holdings first.
My question is; am I on the right track? Am I doing anything wrong currently? I hear there is a lot of overlap between ZBAL and ZGRO so I am wondering if I need to cut down on shares of one of these and add something else to diversify.
Thanks!

Finally got around to opening a TFSA and investing. I’m hoping to throw in $200-$400 a month into the pot. Any advice ?

I’m 48 and single. $920,000 in financial investments. No real estate, pension, or other assets.
My calculations are: investments grow 7% and withdrawals grow 2.5% each year. At 65, I add CPP & OAS and lower investment growth to 6%. My goal is to die with zero at 100.
What could I safely live on (for 50yrs) if I stopped working now?
My math says $48,000. Does that sound right?
I suppose most people here make this post when FIRE starts to look tangible, which is basically “can someone check my math?”

Is aiming for 300k by 2030 realistic? I currently contribute 2k every month. Hoping to increase that to 3k.
Very new to investing which are the best ETFs to hold for 10years hoping to get my own place

Have a pretty good interest rate (3.95%) on a secured line of credit and was debating taking some out to invest in a non-registered account (tfsa and rrsp are maxed, and this would also allow the interest to be written off). Would only invest in market ETFs, not a fan of picking stocks.
Horizon is to fire in the next five years or so.
Are others doing this? Is there anything to consider? I know ETFs can be volatile, so not sure if a 5year horizon is enough. Are you paying off the principle as well, or just interest? I would also put it in a seperate non registered account to show the transfer from the LOC for the interest write off.

Hey guys, I just turned 27 years old…have been investing for roughly 1 year now and adding most of the shares in the past 6 months.
Any advice on this portfolio? This is mostly long term hold
