Weekend Trip Suggestions

I bought tickets to the mens basketball Razorbacks v. Gonzaga exhibition game coming up as an anniversary surprise for my bf. Now, I'm considering making a weekend trip of it.

I need ideas for cute airbnb/hotels, dining options (he REALLY likes Asian food,) night life, and day time activities. I'll be leaning into more affordable options (those tickets weren't cheap) but I won't veto a more expensive suggestion if it is a great quality experience!

Also, the game is at 3PM and we'll be taking the shuttle to/from the stadium. What time can we expect to be back to the car? Are there events/activities leading up we should check out? I no nothing about sports and even less about NWA. 😬

TIA for your help!

Anyone Know What’s Up With Patriots Park Apts?

The apartments look finished, there are signs advertising, but the parking lot is empty except for a couple of cars.

This is the large buildings of veterans designated apartments recently constructed across from the VA hospital on the corner of College & North St.

Gather 'round; it’s time for our annual OVER THE GARDEN WALL event at Crisis Brewing on October 17!

This year, we're honored with a very special musical performance from Christopher Felton — from original tunes to covers from the series.

Our friends from Handshake are returning to dish up an exclusive, fresh fall menu for the event.

Plus, there's a costume contest during intermission, so come dressed up to join the festivities!

BYOChair highly encouraged — we'll have some but not enough for all.

10% off your bar tab if you walked, biked, or ride shared to the event. For those driving, we'll be dropping a parking map soon.

Food starts at 6pm
Music starts at 7pm
Show starts at 8pm

Artwork by the wonderfully talented, artistically endowed Gustav Carlson.

Ain't that just the way?

Neutering w/ Fay Animal Services

I have an appointment at the end of November to get my dog neutered through the city of Fayetteville. I’ve only heard 2 stories but they’ve both been bad. Do any of you have experience with them or have heard good/bad things? I’m getting nervous to take him there but need an affordable clinic in this season of my life.

Northwest Arkansas: Come Try Medieval Combat with Dagorhir!

Ever wanted to fight with swords? Come try Dagorhir!

It's finally getting a little cooler out. Now is the perfect time to pick up a sword, join a shield wall, and fight alongside your friends.

Dagorhir is a medieval fantasy combat sport where we use padded foam weapons to fight in everything from one-on-one duels to large-scale battles. It's a physical, mid-contact hobby that combines sword fighting, teamwork, exercise, and a bit of medieval fantasy (grappling is allowed, etc).

Unlike some other LARPs, Dagorhir doesn't have character classes or magic. Combat is based on your own skill, strategy, and teamwork.

You can fight with swords, axes, spears, shields, bows, and all sorts of other medieval weapons. You can also create your own character, make medieval clothing and armor, and attend larger events with fighters from around the country.

How does combat work?

Combat uses a straightforward damage system. A solid hit to an unarmored torso takes you out of the fight. Hits to arms or legs disable those limbs, and losing two limbs to hacking or smashing attacks also takes you out. Approved armor provides additional protection.

Safety is important. All weapons must pass inspection, melee strikes to the head and neck are prohibited, and combat is governed by rules designed to keep fights fair and reasonably safe.

Never fought before? That's fine.

You don't need experience, expensive equipment, or be in great shape to get started. We're happy to teach new people the rules, help them learn how to fight, and get them involved.

Whether you're interested in medieval history, fantasy, sword fighting, or just finding an active hobby with a good group of people, you're welcome to come out.

Where: Gulley Park, Fayetteville, AR (the side with the Gazeebo).

When: 10:00 A.M. Sunday Mornings

Group: Gravenwyrm Keep

Feel free to bring your friends, stop by to watch, or ask questions. We'd be happy to have you out on the field.

* Waiver required
* Free to Play
* Loaner Gear Available

Eight days, folks! Eight days until early voting starts in Arkansas on October 19th.

This website will show your Arkansas voter registration status and help you find your closest early voting locations.

Early voting dates and hours vary by location, so be sure to check the website for details before heading out.

Correction: On November 2nd, the last day of early voting, you can only vote at the Washington County Courthouse. On Election Day, November 3rd, you can vote at all polling locations.

If you've never voted early before, it's incredibly easy. You'll most likely be in and out in 5 to 10 minutes or less!

Loose Cat Spotted on Storer

Post image
23 Upvotes

I encountered this cat on Storer just south of Cleveland at around 9am this morning (October 9th). Seemed somewhat socialized. It approached me from the Unitarian church parking lot, and followed me up the hill for a bit. I was able to pet it briefly. I couldn't get a good look atbits collar to see if it had tags, but it looked more like a flea and tick collar than one with tags. The cat seemed fairly cleaned but has definitely been outside for a bit. It wandered off in the direction of the Garland parking deck before I was able to see if it would let me pick it up.

KXUA heavy rotation

The college radio station KXUA 88.3 is still better than all the other radio stations, but it isn't as good as it used to be. Years ago, they used to update their heavy rotation playlist every year. In the last few years, they haven't updated it. Did they lose the password to the computer the playlist is on? I want weirdo indie stuff from 2026, not from 2023.

Fun evening spots?

A colleague and I are going to be at a conference next Wednesday, flying out Friday. Where can we hang in the evening? Mid 30s, young professionals, no kids. Fayetteville looks beautiful and fun and we want to make sure we maximize our time in y'alls' lovely town.

Day Labor?

Anybody know where's a good place to find day Labor? Is there a place? I'm older and occasionally have need for someone to help with gardening chores, moving firewood for winter etc. Was wondering where the best place might be to find someone who might work on an hourly or per job basis.

Wal greens is hands down the worst pharmacy I’ve ever made the mistake of dealing with.

The pharmacy techs at the wedington one must do absolutely nothing all day long. Takes 4-5 days to get a prescription filled there.

Who do yall use?

Restaurant recommendation

Can be anywhere in NW Ark. looking for a classic place to take my son for his 21st birthday. The older the better with a nice atmosphere. Price really isn’t an issue (but I ain’t rich).
