Following up from my take on the average NCR Infantry Squad in the Fallout universe, this is my concept for a Squad part of the NCR Army’s Strategic Reserves (a term I am choosing to apply to the Mechanized Division referenced in the 2002 Fallout Bible). Basically, I am picturing a company to battalion sized force being trucked in from the NCR during the lead up to the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, explaining the increase in the number of Heavy Troopers towards the end of the game and the larger presence of assault/marksman carbines at the battle than is normally seen in the Mojave. The primary real-world precedent for squad organization that is being referenced is the Australian Infantry Section during the Cold War, which is one of my favorites.

“Mechanized” is a bit of a misnomer as it’d most likely be just more motorized than anyone else, although I’m choosing to believe with only enough trucks to lift a portion of the division. The presence of salvaged/captured power armor that is actually unpowered in this formation would make motor transport critical for strategic deployments. If they're stationed in Shady Sands that'd be a like 365 mile+ walk to New Vegas.

I’ve created my own rendition of the Assault and Marksman Carbines from the game for this. I dislike their aesthetic in Fallout because the marksman carbine in particular is essentially a late-2000s GWOT M4 Carbine. The Marksman Carbine has an ACOG, quad rail hand guard, flattop, and a fancy DMR stock which doesn't really fit in with much else in FNV aesthetically. So I took the receiver from my Service Rifle concept, gave it the original Colt Model 607 sliding stock (but in wood), shortened it to a 10” barrel, and gave it the moderator of the XM177E1. The Marksman Carbine version just has the ability to mount an optical sight on the carry handle.

I’ve also incorporated the salvaged power armor guys into this squad as a Light Machine Gun Team (they’re the only units in the game that are seen with the LMG, which is an FN Minimi backend and M60 frontend). I imagine they probably captured a limited number of sets from the Brotherhood of Steel, probably like a couple companies worth if we’re being generous (I am making this up). One company’s worth I’d distribute to the otherwise foot Rifle Companies of the strategic reserve to form light support weapons teams like this, while retaining the other company’s worth as a divisional unit to main much heavier weapons like miniguns and heavy incinerators. Kind of like how tanks would be distributed.

For high priority units that lack salvaged power armor, the Gun Team's LMG could be substituted for an "Automatic Rifle", which is essentially just an M1918A2 BAR. Despite the fact the Automatic Rifle would have been out of US service for decades (perhaps well over a century before 2077), not kept alive by the CMP like the M1 Garand was, and as a result pretty limited in all likelihood (you'd probably have like a couple in a museum here or there), the fans want it so I'll give it to them.

The Flare Gun would be to allow the squad to communicate with their platoon leader without a radio. For example, if the squad is ready to initiate an assault or has seized an objective that the rest of the platoon is waiting on to be captured. Use cases would be illumination at night, or perhaps scaring deathclaws and other scary wildlife.

I finally decided to play FNV after years of fighting it. It was on sale along with all of the DLCs. My god is this incredible. I’m only 10 hours in and I cannot stop. I felt like I had to push through for the first 2 hours and I’m glad I did. Hopefully they do a remake in the future to bring more players into this world.

Side note: I’m new to the Steam world and don’t understand mods much. HELP ME SPRINT PLEASE!!

I got a mission to rescue a soldier in Maccallum Air force base, who was being held in Vault 3. Not only did I not find him, but I apparently killed Moto-Runner and screwed up another quest. This is the kind of stuff I hate. Where is Anders and did I miss something because it was quite a fight.

Found these guys at Walmart today and just had to get them. Mcfarlane hasn’t always impressed me, but these two are really quite exceptional. Randall is named “NCR Veteran Ranger”, but we all know it’s him. The power armor came with the FO3 shotgun, but he can’t hold it worth a damn so I just gave him a Star Wars blaster lol

I’m not really good at making videos but I just wanted to share this one to display the mods I use. I try to keep it minimal with an ENB (Rudy’s) and a bunch of patch mods, as well as gameplay enhancements. I really wanted to retain the Gamebryos’ engine feel so I didn’t go too overboard board with trying to make it feel like a modern Fallout title. Hope you all enjoy. I wish there was a mod that had different sub-task quest markers. I find some of the buildings on the strip (and other various vaults) really confusing to navigate--especially when I'm going after a specific task within a quest. Having multiple identical markers for each sub-task is unhelpful if you're wanting to do one specific part of the quest.

Don’t have many hours in the game and am looking to do a long play through. Been waiting for the remaster to play it, but I’ve seen some gameplay where mods completely transform the game and was amazed. Mainly looking for QOL and updated graphics, wondering what other people’s experiences with these mods are or if anyone’s doing the same.

I have luck 10 and I’ve lost 27 times and lost 500 caps, just how bullshit is that cuz I told my brother in law and he said “That’s almost impressive.” Laughed and walked away “impressive”? I don’t get it.

I presented the rangefinder to the elder (didn't change the guy) and when walking out she started to talk to me but all she said was "what's up?" And didn't finish the quest, what's the console commands to force her to talk to me to have her make her decision

I've tried googling it but I guess I'm stupid because I can't figure it out

WHERE DID YOU COME FROM

I'm working on a backstory for my tribal courier.

He belonged to a tribe called the Nomads. They would always move around and not stay in one place for very long. (Similar to the Dutch Van Der Linde gang).

His father was a hunter for the tribe and his mother was an outsider from The hub. His father died when when he was around 10, then his mother took him back to the hub and she taught him how to survive the wasteland.

I thought about username Hawkeyes but that didn't sound like it would fit in and Fallout.

Please leave me any tips.
