Image Huh?

Post image

Orleans declared independence from france. In the peace deal, Orleans got a lot bigger and burgundy gained a couple provinces. I (England) got Maine and Auvergne (I chose to surrender Maine instead of doing the hundred years' war). ORLEANS DID NOT GET INDEPENDENCE! WTF, Paradox?

So irl in history the various French dukes fought a war against France in the League of the Public Weal. The goal was never to gain independence, but simply take as much power and land as possible. Paradox simulates this by having appanages just never declare independence for some reason

Yeah, the appanage AIs never pick the independence option.

It’s because the Appanages want to BECOME France, I think it’s supposed to simulate. They’re all technically one country in a way, but just very decentralized and have a unique type of way they rule their country. They’re all very similar families.

Thats not even bad gameplay, they dont really need Independence If they can use the warscore to weaken the Overlord and strenghen themselves.

u/Budget-Rhubarb-5577 provided the following Rule 5:

Yeah I think it's specific to appanages. Same way as they can fight each other, iirc. Normally independence cb requires you to take independence before anything else, because otherwise it's just too cheesy.

it's actually broken when you pick burgundy you weaken the france appenages declare independence but just get bigger and then you annex them for 0ae via your mission
