I Built my own SMPTE Timecode calculator...and yes, the 29.97 actually provides the correct answer. Thought I would add it so others can use.

• Upvotes

It's completely free, no paywall, no accounts or sign ins. It's not a download so you would need to pin the url. It can be used offline. I know how frustrating last week was for me, so if I can prevent the hassle for someone else, you're welcome to use it. I've had 5 days with it and it's worked like a charm. smptetimecode.hatchable.site Good Luck with future projects!

Publishing edits without quality loss

Hey all, so I want to post my edits onto tiktok but everytime I do, it destroys my quality even if my file is below the compression threshold. I use topaz and have a really nice CC but I see people on tiktok having what seems to be 1440p or higher clips yet I can never get that. Does anyone have any tips? Most people sell 'the method' in their bio but it seems so dodgy to me

beginner editor / software recs / apps rec

hello everyone

ive been wanting to get into video editing for quite a few years, espcially now with mixed media. i really like those short editing videos you see on tiktok on instagram (i think motion graphics, mixed media and typography?) I did mess around with apps before such as videostar and capcut but found it confusing with online tutorials. I would love to start with a more advanced software but im a university student so i wouldnt be able to kee up with high subcriptions every month. so i guess something in the middle, im willing to pay for subcriptions just not insanely high 😅

i want to do video editing as a hobby and creative outlet, if anyone has any good recs please reply!

if you have any good tips for beginners or tips in general let me know too thanks guys

How to get my edits to be full screen on TikTok

I’ve tried to get them to format properly on CapCut by adjusting my size of the video but everytime I put it in the 9:16 ratio which is for TikTok or I do zoom to fill half of my video doesn’t fit in screen. I use CapCut if anyone knows how to fix this it would mean a lot

I built a local AI video editor for reels that cuts by the transcript, and it is open source (MIT)

I make short videos and got tired of bouncing between CapCut, a transcript tool and a notes app, so I built an editor that runs on my Mac and does the editing from the words.

What it does: - Drop in phone clips, it transcribes them with word timings (whisper.cpp, runs locally) and you cut by selecting words. Captions follow every cut. - An assistant (it runs through the Claude CLI on your own plan) takes "make this a 30-second reel with a hook and captions" and does the cut, the captions, text, punch-ins, music and sound effects, then reviews its own frames and fixes what is off. Every request can be undone. - 14 caption styles, 16 text styles, colour looks, transitions, a sound library (keyboard, pings, shutters, the meme classics), reaction GIFs and meme templates. - A planner page that keeps your footage library and a content plan, and starts the edits for you. - Speaker labels and natural voiceover voices, all local. - Export 9:16, 16:9, 1:1 or 4:5 up to 4K.

Everything except the assistant's chat runs on the machine. Apple Silicon Mac only for now, needs Homebrew and Node.

Repo: https://github.com/misaalkhan/local-ai-based-video-editor

Happy to answer questions about how the transcript-based cutting works.

Also, need for suggestions for features.... this is soooo exciting.

Looking to edit some videos at beginner-friendly rates and improve my DaVinci Resolve skills

Hey everyone!
I’ve done some video editing for restaurant marketing in the past using CapCut and VN, mainly short-form videos and reels. I had to take a break because of an internship, but now that I have some free time, I want to get back into editing and improve my skills.
I’m currently learning DaVinci Resolve and looking for a few people who need videos edited.
I’m happy to work at a very affordable rate while I build my skills and portfolio. I’m particularly interested in restaurant reels, food videos, promotional content, and other short-form videos.
I’m not claiming to be an expert, but I know the basics and am willing to put in the effort to make your videos look good. I’m also open to feedback and revisions within an agreed scope.
If you have footage that you’d like turned into a reel or a short video, feel free to DM me with the details and your budget.
I’d love to work on some real projects, improve my editing, and help someone out along the way!
Thanks!

Video editing question

I’m really new at editing and was wondering how video editors get their clips? I’m trying to make fun little edits from a video game I love but I was wondering how people get their clips? Do they play the game and record different sections or maybe find their clips on youtube? I went on youtube to download clips but you have to have a subscription so would it just be easier to replay the whole game and record different sections?

This may not be the correct sub but I’m pretty new to reddit so if it isn’t could someone direct me elsewhere?

has anyone tested capcut to see how to add captions automatically to videos for short form?

was messing around on a quick project earlier and finally decided to test out capcut just to see what the deal is with how to add captions automatically to videos.

expected it to completely butcher the audio timing like most free tools do but it actually got like 90% of it right on the first try. only had to fix a couple weird proper nouns and format spacing. anyone else use this for main projects or just stick to it for quick social edits? wdym if you use something else entirely?

Need help finding a editing app on mobile

I used to use capcut but now it asks for premium for almost every single feature. I tried using alight motion but I absolutely hated it and the watermark was way too big. Is there any mobile (playstore) editing app that's almost like capcut?

Looking to hire an editor for long-form, multi-part handyman/construction/carpentry projects.

I'm a handyman, and I film a lot of my own projects. I recently finished a series where I rebuilt a wooden gate over a 3-day period at a commercial property. I have several other projects involving small engine repair and custom built-in carpentry already filmed.

I'm looking for an editor who can craft a story out of the footage. Each job will likely be a multi-video series. I have about 9 videos worth of footage at the moment. I've also recorded audio with my Rode mics.

DM me, and we can talk some more.

Video editor

Am o întrebare:
Tu îți montezi singur videoclipurile sau ai un editor care se ocupă de montaj?
Dacă vrei să reduci efortul și timpul petrecut cu montajul, aș fi bucuros să discutăm despre asta.
