There has been a HUGE influx of national politics related posts. Many of them from new accounts, or ones that have never been to this sub. Basically astroturf. For the foreseeable future, these will not be allowed here. It doesn't matter if there is some local connection to it, no posts about national politics or related activism. There are tons of subs for that.
HOWEVER, local politics posts are totally fine and actually strongly encouraged. Post about your local city council members if you know who they are. Post about new local laws or restrictions. Whatever, but LOCAL posts only.
Reddit has made some very questionable algo changes recently that seem to be heavily trying to stir up things and it's tough keep things chill here. Insta ban for any of these posts
Yesterday I found I was mailed a camera-ticket from September for speeding in a work zone (54 in a 40) and a fine of $125 with a warning that if I do it again it’ll cost $248!
It said it’s not considered a “moving violation” and won’t affect insurance. I don’t recall seeing any “speed camera” signs and technically this is a work zone (although most of the work is happening adjacent to this segment of roadway) so consider yourself warned.
Halloween is just a little two weeks away on Saturday, October 31. Are there any places in public that do something fun to celebrate? I’m talking about young adults who don’t really know anyone in the area, and are too old for trick-or-treating. I was thinking of browsing local malls, but that’s something you can do on any day. Are there any Halloween-specific events going on?
Can anyone recommend a company that is reasonably priced and reliable for maintaining landscape? This includes weeding, pruning, and raking leaves. My elderly parents cannot maintain their large garden. One had a stroke and the other has difficulty walking.
I have gone through 7 small companies in the last 3 years. They come for the first time and require a very expensive “clean up fee.” Then after a few maintenance visits they disappear because their first visit was their biggest profit.
A referral would be GREATLY appreciated. Independent contractors or small businesses are more than welcome.
Can someone explain what's going on with Novelty Hill road for the past couple of weeks? It's been going down to a single lane after 9am every day and traffic backs up for miles as a result. I can't find anything online explaining what they are doing and why, (or more importantly what days they intend to do it, and when it will stop).
We live on the east side and are looking at the area French immersion schools—FASPS, FISW, and Les Lilas—for our preschooler. We’ve already started visiting schools. I’m curious to hear from area parents who visited these schools and have some experience with them which one you chose over the others and why. I’d also love to hear your impressions good and bad on any of the schools you or someone you know has experience with. It’s a lot to process and they are all quite different, so any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
It's my husband's birthday (early 30s) this month and I'm thinking of booking a hotel stay in Woodinville, along with some chill activities. Would love to hear your recommendations for hotels and activities to do! Would want it to be budget friendly and not too expensive. Activities, something chill like a vineyard maybe. Thanks!
Forget ghosts, goblins and things that go bump in the night. We've got four letters that'll send a shiver down any driver's spine: B-U-S-Y.That's right, another weekend of closures is creeping up on us.
Inspired by true (upcoming) events. Rated B for BUSY. Coming to a freeway near you Oct. 16–18:
NB I-405 CLOSED in Bellevue
- Closed between SE 8th St to NE 4th St. from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 to 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19. The following ramps will also close at this time: SE 8th St. on-ramp to NB I-405 and NB I-405 off-ramp to NE 4th St/NE 8th St. (Exit 13 A/B). Crews will pave, install concrete panels and set an overhead sign structure.
NB I-5 CONTINUED LANE CLOSURES across Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle
- Reduced to two lanes across the Ship Canal Bridge until the end of 2026. The express lanes will remain open NB-only 24/7.
EB I-90 LANE REDUCTIONS in Snoqualmie

You know that friend who looks over at you right before the jump scare in a horror movie? Yeah, that's us. Except instead of ruining the movie, we're giving you a heads-up about weekend closures. Check the travel maps, know your route before you go and give yourself extra time to get to that pumpkin patch.
My latest State Farm bill has gone up 20% from last year. Has anyone recently gone thru the ordeal of getting home owners insurance quotes? If so, what have you found?
Also, do you have earthquake insurance?
UPDATE: for anyone that must have earthquake insurance DO NOT waste your time getting a quote from Progressive. Progressive (or any of their affiliates) cannot provide earthquake coverage for homes in WA state as part of a primary policy or even as a separate policy. Their policy without earthquake coverage was about 25% cheaper than the equivalent State Farm policy.
The argument that I have heard is that this tax is only for millionaires; we have a regressive tax structure, and millionaires need to pay their fair share!
This is not what this post is about.
This is not what the argument is about.
If it is truly the case that voting ‘no’ to the repeal the tax in initiative 645 would be unfair because it will only apply to millionaires, why then would the Legislature change 11 RCWs at the same time to now apply the tax to public service pensions and retirements?
I don’t know any police officer, firefighter, or teacher that makes $1 million a year in a retirement pension.
Once the income tax threshold is lowered, this intentional move to change the RCW’s to include public pensions will now include those pensions to have that income taxed at whatever the threshold will then be.
Most pensioners I know don’t make more than $100,000 a year.
Why in the world would the legislature change these RCW‘s then to apply this income tax to public pensions?
The writing is on the wall.
Please don’t say this is, “fear mongering.” Instead, offer empirical evidence that these 11 RCW’s were changed for any other reason than that the millionaire’s tax will eventually apply to pensions at a much lower income threshold.
Hi everyone! Looking for recommendations for hands-on STEM classes, workshops, or local centers for a child turning 7.We want to avoid general robotics/Lego programming and instead focus on:
Tinkering & physical engineering: Building, tactile invention, and understanding how hardware works.
Questions:
Are there specific local academies, maker spaces, or enrichment programs that offer dedicated electricity/electronics modules tailored for early elementary kids (ages 6–8)? TIA
I’m a big fan of Elvis Tribute Artists (ETAs) and would love to connect with other fans around Redmond or the Eastside.
Are there any fellow fans here who might be interested in getting a small group together to check out an upcoming local show or tribute night? Also open to recommendations for any great ETA performers or venues around the Puget Sound area!
Feel free to comment or reach out if you'd be interested!
We're furnishing our place and are looking for recommendations for stores on the eastside or Seattle area. We love the clean Scandinavian modern look of a lot of pieces at Dania, and the prices feel reasonable for the quality. Their service and delivery time are great too! We're looking for other stores with a similar style and price range, ideally in person, though online shops are fine too.
Has anyone found other places they've been happy with? Hidden gems welcome. Thanks!
Has anyone had experience with a birth (and/or postpartum) doula on the eastside? I'm a first time parent, due next spring and planning to deliver at Swedish Issaquah with the midwives. It's unfortunately not covered by my insurance so I'm still trying to decide if it's worth hiring a birth doula or maybe just a postpartum one since we do plan on taking some pre-birth education classes and we will be with the midwifery program. Would love to hear folks' experiences!
Has anyone had botox injections for migraines administered by neurologists/neurology at Overlake Medical Center and can share their experience? Any specific providers recommended? My current neurologist is retiring and I am being referred to Overlake in Bellevue for my injections going forward. Do they only follow the migraine protocol there or do they adjust to follow the pain as needed and not make patients come out looking wonky? Thanks!
Ate at my favorite Indian restaurant in Bellevue, the server showed me the tablet for payment and literally said the words "20%".
I'm wondering if this is coming from the restaurant management or that particular server? If there's tip pressure on servers I can imagine maybe the owner is keeping a cut. Alternatively the server was being obnoxious with the pressure to increase their own earnings.
I'm inclined to not go there anymore but the food is amazing. Anyone else have a similar experience? It's a sit-down, not very fancy but not ultra casual either.
It was NOT Banaras but another restaurant with similar pricing/sit down aesthetic.
Could be anything. Easy parking, a quiet trail, a grocery store that isn’t annoying, a coffee spot nearby, or a commute that doesn’t ruin your mood. Feels like the longer you’re here, the more those little things start to matter.
