🍕 Food & Dining Where can I get sweets like Blaban but for cheaper?

I have such a sweet tooth and I keep craving this. I eat like 2 boxes in one sitting (concerning, but I'm hoping my working out cancels out the sugar lol).

It's not bank breaking but I feel like I'm spending too much on sweets and desserts.

Do y'all know any other place that has similar kunafa desserts?

ILOE Fine to Abscond

• Upvotes

Hello, I have one serious problem to slove !!! If you know any possiblity please feel free to answer PLZ ...

One of my friend bought 2 year resident visa (as own visa), but now she got a job offer and the company will provide their employment visa, so that she has to cancle the visa that she is holding. Now, the proble came, in MOHRE app showed she became a absconder, how it is possible and then she contacted the company which she bought as her own visa and the company replied is cause she had a fine of ILOE fine so the system made her automative put her ABSCONDER according to NEW RULE OF UAE. Is it true? or the company just use as reason for the people who doesn't understand the rule and regulation of UAE visa process. As I know ILOE and Absconding is two different caseses.

Is there anyone to help to explain that case Plz!!!

🔥 Rants & Complaints Taxi drivers refusing to take customer unless it's under booking

Hello dear Dxbians,

I wanted to ask/rant about something my wife casually mentioned today.

She doesn't drive (yet) and sometimes when I'm at work and she's going home she takes the metro until Internet City then a taxi to JVC, she was complaining this morning about how it's exhausting.. I joked that yes being in a taxi with AC on is very exhausting...

She replied that she struggles to find a taxi, because they simply refuse to take her under the pretext that they're operating under booking alone (careem, hala....) so she keeps trying until someone takes her.

I'm not super sure there are some taxis that only work on booking because I rarely have been in a taxi for the past few years but I suspect it's just for the extra 7 aed that the counter starts with on booking (12aed instead of 5aed without booking).

Is it the case ? Or are they totally correct. I feel it's weird that a taxi with a Green Available writing can refuse to take her

In case they're in the wrong, is there a way to complain ? Do we just contact RTA on the spot or maybe threaten the driver and they'll take us ?

Is DU deliberately showing iPhones as “out of stock” to existing customers unless they sign up for a new plan?

Has anyone else experienced this with DU in the UAE?

I've been trying to buy an iPhone, and the whole situation has been extremely frustrating.

When I check DU's online store using a number that doesn't have an existing DU plan, the devices appear to be available. But when I check using my own account, which already has a DU plan, suddenly the same devices appear as sold out.

I thought maybe it was just an online glitch, so I went to around 4–5 different DU branches. The experience was very similar across the branches.

Staff tried to sell me a new plan alongside the phone. When I explained that I already had a DU plan, I was suddenly told the phone was out of stock, even though I'd initially been told it was available.

Something else that made me uncomfortable was that staff tried to move me away from the camera's view while discussing the plans and purchase.

At this point, I'm genuinely confused. If the phone is available, why does it suddenly become unavailable when they find out I'm already a DU customer and don't need another plan?

I'm not claiming I know exactly what's happening behind the scenes, but the fact that I've experienced similar situations at multiple branches AND online seems very suspicious.

I've raised concerns about this and am considering escalating the matter to TDRA.

My questions are:

  • Does DU restrict device purchases based on your existing account or plan?
  • Has anyone experienced the same thing, and did you manage to resolve it?

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who's dealt with this. I just want to buy a phone without being pressured into signing up for another plan.

ATM fees

I’m aware ATMs charge a fee for using a foreign bank account.

Assuming my bank account doesn’t charge any fees for me, which atm offers the lowest fees for using another bank account?

🌇 Community How much noise warrants moving out?

I live in a building that allows pets. This is all fine until recently one of my neighbors decided to get a parrot or a bird of some kind that chirps all throughout the day while I’m WFH or simply resting. I believe they go to work and bring it in from their balcony to the living room during hot hours and the sound leaks into the entire corridor.

Brought it up to security and building management which have been dismissive. This is something that I guess people will find trivial until they have had to encounter themselves. But I do admit that I am generally someone who is highly sensitive to noise.

I think part of my inconvenience is due to how inconsiderate the neighbors are being to others as brining up a bird is not comparable to e.g. construction work or children etc. as those are more understandable circumstances that I can psychologically tolerate.

What would you do in this situation? It’s been going on for over a month now and it doesn’t seem like anything will change. Thinking about moving out but I don’t want to be charged a 2-month rent penalty.

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

🌟 Fun Does anyone else remember the "Salik coin trick" making the news back in the day?

Stumbled across this old memory—does anyone else remember when people actually tried putting coins on their Salik tag to try and trick the Salik scanners? It even made it into the news:

https://gulfnews.com/uae/transport/no-trick-can-cheat-salik-system-rta-1.78706

We used to talk about this all the time back then. Did anyone actually know someone who tried it, or was it pure urban legend?

🌍 Travel & Tourism Flying from Canada to Dubai soon 🇨🇦✈️🇦🇪 local tips needed!

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m traveling from Canada to Dubai pretty soon for a short vacation (about a week). Super excited but I really want to avoid the basic tourist traps and experience the city like a local.

Would love your help with a few recommendations:

Hidden gems! Any cool spots, cozy cafes, or views that tourists usually miss out on? ☕️🌆

Best evening walks! Where are the best places to just walk around and chill in the evening? (Preferably beachfronts or nice outdoor vibes) 🌊🚶‍♀️

The food scene! I’m dying to try some authentic local food or street food. Budget to mid-range spots preferred! 🥙🔥

Must-have apps! What apps should I download before landing? (For transport, food delivery, navigation, etc.) 📱

Any extra tips for a first-timer coming from Canada would be awesome. Thanks a lot! 🙏✨

Dubai Police App, reporting reckless driving, does it even work.

Okay, so two days back, I was driving from Ibn Battuta towards Discovery Gardens taking right (freeway) when this White Not-so-Dashing (Jetour) sped up so much near the signal and cut me in the front to take the freeway. I was soo numb & had shivers at that point because the distance between my car and the front wasn't much and this Not-so-Dashing car cut so fast, I could only honk and stop my car right away.

I opened the Dubai Police app>turned on the location> Submit a Report> Traffic Offence & Reckless Driving (did this when my car stopped at the next signal of Discovery Gardens), now, the location changed, and it wanted me to capture or record live.
but the location changed (with each Green signal), that Not-so-Dashing car ran away, what was there to record? I have the nameplate picture.

How does one use this feature of Dubai Police App, when it is clearly not so safe to record or use phone while driving, how does one record/capture, when it takes just 2-3 seconds for someone to commit an offense.

I am not ranting or blaming, I am genuinely curious if I can still report this car through the app.

Personal or Business loan?

Hi everyone! I’d like to ask for your advice regarding bank loans here in Dubai, as this would be our first time applying for one.

Given the current business situation, we’re considering taking out a loan to cover our business rent and other expenses. Could you recommend a bank that offers the lowest interest rates?

My monthly salary is AED 35,000, credited to my ADCB account, and I’m also the owner of the company I work for. Would it be possible for me to apply for a personal loan instead of a business loan?

I would really appreciate your advice and recommendations. Thank you!

I am really looking forward to get an idea based on tried and tested institutes. Hence would really appreciate honest reviews. I have gone through a list on Google but honestly the reviews are not genuine there hence I need a true review and recommendation. Thanks

Best Botox, UltraCol, Skin Care

Hi everyone! I’m looking to put together a skincare and aesthetic treatment plan over the next year and would love recommendations for genuinely good clinics in Abu Dhabi or Dubai, ideally based on personal experience rather than Instagram advertising.

I’m particularly interested in:

Botox: A really good injector who understands facial balance and achieves natural-looking results.

UltraCol: I’ve been trying to find clinics offering this treatment in the UAE but haven’t had much luck. Has anyone had it done here, and where?

Skin quality: Treatments for texture, pores, glow, hydration and overall skin quality.

Other aesthetic treatments: Anything you’ve personally tried and would genuinely recommend for improving your skin and overall appearance.

I’d especially appreciate recommendations for specific doctors or practitioners, rather than just clinic names. If you’ve had treatments done yourself, I’d love to hear about your experience, results

🏠 Housing & Real Estate Rental agreement renewal/termination

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, i seek advice. I missed the date of informing my non-renewal decision (50 days remain, against the 2 months in notice and contract).

What if i were to give a notice right now. In case the landlord does not agree to waive of notice period - what penalty can they apply?

Also since RERA rental index shows no increase (realistic rents are lower by 15%) can the landlord enfore the same rent? I want to negotiate and can possibly renew if landlord gives me a fair rental quote.

Thanks

Emaar South or Damac 2?

Can anyone tell me what it's like to live in either community? We are in the process of looking for a home to rent and like the idea of a quieter community away from the hustle and bustle, but also somewhere with a vibrant local community.

We are a couple with a dog and no kids for context.

Account frozen by ADIB for 31 days under compliance review. Face-to-face branch won't help. Facing severe financial distress/starvation.

• Upvotes

Hi everyone. I am an expat in Dubai and my primary personal ADIB bank account was frozen on September 15th under an internal compliance review (Clause 3.6). It has been over a month, and I am in severe financial distress with no access to my money.
I filed a case with Sanadak, but the bank replied stating they are reviewing it with "no specific timeframe," and Sanadak closed the initial file telling me to wait or appeal (which takes months). I have visited the flagship branches and called multiple times. They admit they haven't actually requested any documents from me yet, but they refuse to unblock it or allow an emergency cash withdrawal while the "back-office review" is running.
I am under extreme stress and running out of money for food and rent. Has anyone successfully bypassed an internal ADIB compliance hold?

End of service gratuity by cheque instead of bank transfer?

A family member recently lost his job at a government entity due to visa issues. They have an outstanding bank loan, and the bank automatically deducts the loan payment as soon as their salary is deposited.
They have always kept up with their loan payments, but they urgently need their end-of-service gratuity to cover rent and support their family while regularizing their visa status.
Is it legally possible to request the gratuity by cheque instead of having it transferred to their bank account? Has anyone dealt with a similar situation?
Thanks in advance!

🔥 Rants & Complaints This is Al Khail Gate. Every. Single. Night.

Imagine you’re me. You’re coming home from work after an evening shift. You’re tapped out. You wanna see your family and relax - maybe even have dinner at the appropriate time. But you drive to your community and it’s nothing short of parking pandemonium.

Cars using the sidewalks as additional parking. Strewn out haphazardly. Some of the ones who get home earlier hog the slots meant for paying tenants so if you’re a tenant you’re entitled to a slot but it’s first come first served so you’re always getting screwed over by either a) the people who get home around 6-7ish b) folks who share one flat and have God knows how many cars between them and c) ppl who use motorcycles as a paperweight to hold specific parking slots hostage

Security and building management isn’t a help even. They’ve implemented sections that tenants can only access but for some reason: non tenants can still access them. I see who they are in the mornings: they pull up to the security barrier, call up the customer service in the box and they bypass the gates by saying “oh hurdur we just registered so our car isn’t on your system”. The system should be keeping these ppl out!

I’m tired, I’m pissed, running out of hope and feeling helpless. Is there really no way justice for us paying tenants to get proper parking and reach our homes on time?

tldr: Al Khail Gate parking is hell. Security/management not taking action. Where to get help?
