I knoe they aren't legal, but why do people do them?

I see so many of these. (blacked out license plates)
I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and say that not all owners of these vehicles are planning to hit and run when they get into an accident.

It seems like its a trend.

I recently learned that they aren't legal.

They are still picked up by toll cameras.

Why are so many people doing this? Whats the mind behind people who are ordering these?

Photo is from google search.

Ignoring the illegal overtakers, did the cammer car have any opportunity to safely move over to allow the faster passers by?

So ignoring the obviously illegal overtakers, did the cammer car have any safe opportunity to move over? Does the cammer even have any obligation to move over to allow faster passers by?

Would it have been better to tuck in, allow the faster passers by, then return to the passing lane at the slower rate?

God forbid you speed up before changing lanes to the left…

So this is something I see all the time and it just happened to me 15 minutes ago, on my way to work. Now I’ve always HATED people who cruise up on-ramps at like 30-40mph, then try to merge into 70 mph traffic at that speed, but then some people take it further.

I was in the middle lane on the freeway and this pickup truck merged into the right lane. At this point he’s doing maybe 55mph in a 70. I’m like 4 car lengths behind but going 70 and closing the gap. This guy has nobody in front of him whatsoever. He wants to get in the left lane to speed, but instead of continuing to get up to speed in the right lane, he just keeps his turn signal on and puts all his focus into cutting me off at his 55mph speed without even accelerating as he does so. After he forces me to brake, THEN he starts accelerating and gets over into the left and disappears . WHY?! WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS?! Like I said, he had nobody in front of him. It was also completely clear behind my car. People are annoying lol

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ What happened to just controlling your emotions?

This is not another left lane post although that sparked this post. I've seen with a lot of these more divisive post that for safety the onus is on the person thats being safe to move over and, let the more dangerous drivers just speed away. A lot of times I will even see people in the comments admit to being these type of dangerous drivers.

Now I understand the logic behind this. You can't police how others drive so for your own sake its best to remove yourself from a potentially dangerous situation.

But why? Not the logic, but the people that can't control their emotions. We've gotten to the point where endangering others, and yourself is seem like the norm. Where the only rules that matter are your own personal rules regardless of the law or etiquette.

Like are you guys this angry in your everyday life or does this just happen when you are driving?

I finally passed my drivers test on my 4th try!

• Upvotes

Like two months ago i posted in here about how i had failed my 2nd test, and how i thought about giving up, but i didn’t. I failed my third one, and then felt like shit once again, but like i said, i didn’t give up.

Failing is hard, especially three times in a row, but failing and still showing up proves that you are strong. If anyone reading this is in the situation i was in, please don’t give up, you can and will pass! You just gotta show up and keep driving and one day you will have your license.

Thank you to the people who gave me kind words and advice.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ What's the mentality here

Other then just having complete main character syndrome. Driving up a single lane mountain road with a line of cars stuck behind them barely going the speed limit. The road finally opens up to 2 lanes for a mile to pass but all of a sudden that same person is drag racing you because God forbid they get passed.

Need Advice My parked car got hit, and I watched it happen

In the UK. Long story short, My parked car was reversed into by someone trying to leave. I was outside when this happened, maybe 20-30 meters away, when I hear this crunch. I start walking towards the car that backed into mine, and the driver slowly turns around, and leaves. Just leaves. No chat, no note. I have their registration and general description of driver. I have seen this car around before. Now I know I need to report this to my insurance, but I don’t want to claim since the damage is so tiny, just a few scratches.
However, what irks me is that the driver drove off. I was right there. Maybe 5-10 minutes before this I was in my car checking stuff out, while the driver was sat in their car. Not even 5 meters away. I don’t really want to go the legal route, but should I? I know this is a hit and run technically.

Venting The Constant Tailgating is literally insane

I am sickkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk and tired of being tailgated on the highway in the RIGHT LANES when im already behind a line of cars. WHAT THE FUCK AM I EXPECTED TO DO and WHYYYY do people do this??? I talking to all of the tailgaters that weave in and out of lanes tail gating every single car that also has a LINE OF CARS IN FRONT OF THEM. WTF DO YOU WANT THEM TO DO? I genuinely am curious about the thought process because it is genuinely so enraging. Are we toddlers???? Do we not know the dangers of following closely at high speeds????? Going around stressing people out for no good reason. I feel like maybe tailgaters forget this universal truth, YOU CANT CONTROL THE WAY OTHERS DRIVE.

And I don't mean following closely, which can be inevitable. Im talking aggressive tailgating.

Tf is wrong with yall. My 6 year old has more patience.

Edit: To all the geniuses pointing out that I also cant control how others drive, YES I KNOW SWEETIES, thats why im venting here about it. Like no fucking shit I cant control it, doesnt mean I cant point out how idiotic it is

Need Advice Distance from school bus to stop? (Oregon)

I turned on a left and merged after a school bus went by as there was an opening, but as soon as I turned in the school bus came to a stop, i stopped but I was pretty close and remained close due to traffic is this illegal? I usually play it very safe when it comes to school buses but if I waited I would have been waiting to turn for quite a while. I came to a complete stop every time the bus did I was just fairly close, close enough where I couldn’t see the stop sign. I was just wondering if I’m in danger of getting a ticket or something. Any advice would be appreciated

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ car making noise does not equal speeding

when i drive my 5.0 mustang, i notice people in my neighborhood waving at me to slow down…. while im doing 20 in a 25. i mean like it’s my neighborhood i walk it everyday so it would be silly to speed where i live and walk. but ironically let it be a tesla or a honda or toyota, those guys are blazing down the neighborhood at 10 over.

just bc a car is making noise doesnt mean its speeding. sigh

Need Advice I’m 25 and don’t know how to drive

I am deeply scared of driving but I feel like it’s at the point where I’m probably going to miss out on a lot more opportunities in life if I don’t get my license soon. I don’t know how much to save either.

I graduate from college in a year, but if none of that works out, for a bit I’d like to aim for even an higher paying job than my current part-time one making 17.50/hr. I’d most likely want to go full time somewhere but also I’d want a more reliable form of transportation by then.

My family always finds a way to get me to work, but I feel so guilty every time. I’m also tired of putting gas in my brothers car just for him to guzzle it away bc he likes to speed, then he can also justify his reasoning bc I don’t pay for the car insurance

I don’t know where to start, or even go about how to find something cheap and reliable or how much to save 😓

My brother has a wheel setup but I don’t know if that’ll help with practice much :/

My main thing is awareness. I have been behind the wheel multiple times (prob about 8 times), but I have been frightened because every time I am aware of my unawareness.

I’ve lived in Austin Texas my whole life and seeing the people on the road has definitely been steady increase in nightmare fuel that influences my scare. I want to be a safe and smart driver 😔

Anything helps. Also I’ve never used Reddit before

Need Advice Aftermarket speed limit warning device suggestions?

In my area of the state they can't be bothered to keep the trees trimmed so the speed limit signs are consistently visible, and when there's a painted speed limit on the road those aren't ever fresh enough to be visible either. I also can't consistently take the same route every day, so I can't just "learn the rules of my route". At this point it's getting dangerous trying to even find a lot of the speed limit signs; I'd spend more time on that than actually watching the road and other drivers. Literally the only spots in my area where the speed limit signs are consistently visible is by schools.

I know how to read my speedometer, I know damn well how fast I am/not going, so please don't start with me.

But I'm hoping someone can give me the name of a good speed limit warning device out there that scans for the speed limit signs for you, or uses gps info, so you know whether you've just changed over from a 50mph section down to a 35. Preferably one with a visible display that flashes, and anything auditory can be turned on or off. I can't afford to buy a whole new car just so I have one already included on the dash where the speedometer and odometer are.

I haven't had good luck with apps like Waze working consistently, regardless of how I fiddle with the settings.

Any suggestions please?

How do you react when you see a "Student Driver" sticker on a car?

I'm learning how to drive and my mom recently put "student driver: please be patient" stickers around our car. I was wondering how other drivers would perceive it if they were behind/beside me.

Apparently, I'm an idiot

Driving along on a 4 lane (2 going north, 2 going south, divided) highway, 55 mph speed limit. On the right lane, minding my own business, going 55. I need to turn left in about 3/4 of a mile, so I slide over into the left lane. Some jerk rushes up on me, flashing his headlights and honking at me, following closer than I stop behind people at stoplights. Finally, he whips over to the right and floors it. I notice as he zips past me a bumper sticker in his window.

IF I'M PASSING YOU ON THE RIGHT

YOU'RE AN IDIOT!

I'm the idiot? Wow! Getting into the lane I need to be in in order to get home and I'm the idiot?

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ High beams at night

Idk what it is but at least where I live, people keeping their high beams on at night is a huge problem and I’m constantly being blinded on my way home at night.

For an example last night I was making a left on a solid green and while waiting, this car that was in the left turn lane from the opposing side of traffic had their high beams on and I was blinded and therefore couldn’t see oncoming traffic. I flashed my high beams at them multiple times to alert them that they had theirs on and they didn’t do anything about it. I eventually made my turn and had to pull over bc I saw black dots everywhere.

I probably have about over 10+ encounters with drivers leaving their high beams on at night (despite my drive home being only 25 min) and it never used to be this bad.

American Safety Institute 4 Hour Course, Need Advice

I don’t know if anyone has this issue. Unfortunately when I looked at my address under the “my account” section they failed to list my house number. I tried to send a ticket in and they promised 48 hours to respond but nothing, its been almost 4 days.

When I submitted the ticket I had no email confirming anything either, I checked and my email is right. Called their line and no matter what time of day it says the line is currently unavailable. I tried all the other options when I called, same thing.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Aggressive Driver had no reason to be Aggressive

Location - NY - I was going home yesterday with someone and I was the passenger. The road we were on goes from 2 lanes to 1 and winds through the area, at first 55 then going to 45. My driver was going probably 50 in the 55 section cause it's dark on this stretch of road.

Probably not even a mile from the merge, the guy behind us in a pickup truck is flashing his high beams on and keeping them lit for long periods of time. It's obvious he wants us to go faster, but keep in mind there are actually cars ahead of his, not directly but close enough that going faster wouldn't save this guy time.

Yet he continues flashing his lights and honking his horn, even as we got to the 45mph section and we were doing over 45 at this point. The guy got stuck at a red light and we thought we lost him, but he came racing back and continued with the high beam games.

We finally got to another red light and he pulls up into the left turn lane and before the light turned green he accelerated straight, and that was the end of that.

It wasn't scary, more so it just pissed me off. Like what was the purpose of all that? To go 20 over on a windy dark country road? Unfortunately for him, he had easy to remember vanity plates. You think people with those plates wouldn't stand out in their driving practices.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Question to slow drivers, why in the first lane ? Why ?

Do you like to spread misery ? Do you hate life ? Are you on your phone ?

***Edit

What i mean is passing lane. Driving slow is 1 thing. Why the hell don’t you move when you can clearly see you’re slowing down traffic ? And you are literally at the same speed as the middle or the lane next to you. Just MOVE

Venting Drivers nearly hitting pedestrians

Hi everyone.

I noticed a lot of drivers where I live drive very fast and aggressively. I live in a walkable city, that has people walking all the time. I can't remember a day where I haven't almost been hit by a car that was impatient to turn.

I always make sure to look both ways before crossing, and I wait till I have the signal. Sometimes crosswalks don't have signals either, but I still look both ways and am cautious. Out of no where, there is cars speeding toward me, getting upset that I'm crossing, which leaves me confused because I have the right of way. I get flipped off, yelled at, honked at. Seriously, are people this impatient? They speed to the next light just to get a red. All they have to do is wait a couple seconds for someone to cross, I don't know why people in their cars are thinking people walking are an inconvenience to their day. People walking have somewhere to be too.

I understand if someone is frustrated in scenarios where someone jay walks or runs in front of a car, or when they don't have the cross walk signal. Other than that, it's completely unfair to nearly run and cuss out a young girl for walking to work.

I'd appreciate thoughts, whether you are also someone who commutes with a car, or by walking.

I drive too, but waiting for someone to cross for a minute never makes my day worse.
