Need Advice Parents forcing me to wear glasses 24/7 or they won't let me get my permit.

Hey guys, turning 15.5 in 3 weeks and my parents are holding my driver's permit hostage. I failed the vision screen and need glasses just for distance/driving. My vision is fine for daily life and basketball.

My parents are forcing a rule that I have to wear them all day, every day (including at school) or they won't let me get my license. I definitely do not want to wear glasses at school because I will 100% get made fun of, and I physically can't put any contacts in.

I want to just keep them strictly in the vehicle and in my house as driving-only equipment/home eyewear. For those of you whose licenses require corrective lenses, do you actually wear your glasses 24/7, or is it common to just keep them in the car/house exclusively for when you are behind the wheel? How do you handle the DMV restriction without letting it take over your daily life?

Need Advice Removable car decorations?

I recently got my license, and now I have a Volkswagen Tiguan. I LOVE decorating and customizing and personalizing and whateverizing things. However, I don’t want to do anything to damage the value of the car. what are some things I can add to it?

I tried a cute steering wheel cover from Walmart but it didn’t fit :(

Need Advice Distance from school bus to stop? (Oregon)

I turned on a left and merged after a school bus went by as there was an opening, but as soon as I turned in the school bus came to a stop, i stopped but I was pretty close and remained close due to traffic is this illegal? I usually play it very safe when it comes to school buses but if I waited I would have been waiting to turn for quite a while. I came to a complete stop every time the bus did I was just fairly close, close enough where I couldn’t see the stop sign. I was just wondering if I’m in danger of getting a ticket or something. Any advice would be appreciated

Need Advice I’m 25 and don’t know how to drive

I am deeply scared of driving but I feel like it’s at the point where I’m probably going to miss out on a lot more opportunities in life if I don’t get my license soon. I don’t know how much to save either.

I graduate from college in a year, but if none of that works out, for a bit I’d like to aim for even an higher paying job than my current part-time one making 17.50/hr. I’d most likely want to go full time somewhere but also I’d want a more reliable form of transportation by then.

My family always finds a way to get me to work, but I feel so guilty every time. I’m also tired of putting gas in my brothers car just for him to guzzle it away bc he likes to speed, then he can also justify his reasoning bc I don’t pay for the car insurance

I don’t know where to start, or even go about how to find something cheap and reliable or how much to save 😓

My brother has a wheel setup but I don’t know if that’ll help with practice much :/

My main thing is awareness. I have been behind the wheel multiple times (prob about 8 times), but I have been frightened because every time I am aware of my unawareness.

I’ve lived in Austin Texas my whole life and seeing the people on the road has definitely been steady increase in nightmare fuel that influences my scare. I want to be a safe and smart driver 😔

Anything helps. Also I’ve never used Reddit before

Need Advice My parked car got hit, and I watched it happen

In the UK. Long story short, My parked car was reversed into by someone trying to leave. I was outside when this happened, maybe 20-30 meters away, when I hear this crunch. I start walking towards the car that backed into mine, and the driver slowly turns around, and leaves. Just leaves. No chat, no note. I have their registration and general description of driver. I have seen this car around before. Now I know I need to report this to my insurance, but I don’t want to claim since the damage is so tiny, just a few scratches.
However, what irks me is that the driver drove off. I was right there. Maybe 5-10 minutes before this I was in my car checking stuff out, while the driver was sat in their car. Not even 5 meters away. I don’t really want to go the legal route, but should I? I know this is a hit and run technically.

Need Advice Aftermarket speed limit warning device suggestions?

In my area of the state they can't be bothered to keep the trees trimmed so the speed limit signs are consistently visible, and when there's a painted speed limit on the road those aren't ever fresh enough to be visible either. I also can't consistently take the same route every day, so I can't just "learn the rules of my route". At this point it's getting dangerous trying to even find a lot of the speed limit signs; I'd spend more time on that than actually watching the road and other drivers. Literally the only spots in my area where the speed limit signs are consistently visible is by schools.

I know how to read my speedometer, I know damn well how fast I am/not going, so please don't start with me.

But I'm hoping someone can give me the name of a good speed limit warning device out there that scans for the speed limit signs for you, or uses gps info, so you know whether you've just changed over from a 50mph section down to a 35. Preferably one with a visible display that flashes, and anything auditory can be turned on or off. I can't afford to buy a whole new car just so I have one already included on the dash where the speedometer and odometer are.

I haven't had good luck with apps like Waze working consistently, regardless of how I fiddle with the settings.

Any suggestions please?

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Aggressive Driver had no reason to be Aggressive

Location - NY - I was going home yesterday with someone and I was the passenger. The road we were on goes from 2 lanes to 1 and winds through the area, at first 55 then going to 45. My driver was going probably 50 in the 55 section cause it's dark on this stretch of road.

Probably not even a mile from the merge, the guy behind us in a pickup truck is flashing his high beams on and keeping them lit for long periods of time. It's obvious he wants us to go faster, but keep in mind there are actually cars ahead of his, not directly but close enough that going faster wouldn't save this guy time.

Yet he continues flashing his lights and honking his horn, even as we got to the 45mph section and we were doing over 45 at this point. The guy got stuck at a red light and we thought we lost him, but he came racing back and continued with the high beam games.

We finally got to another red light and he pulls up into the left turn lane and before the light turned green he accelerated straight, and that was the end of that.

It wasn't scary, more so it just pissed me off. Like what was the purpose of all that? To go 20 over on a windy dark country road? Unfortunately for him, he had easy to remember vanity plates. You think people with those plates wouldn't stand out in their driving practices.

How do you react when you see a "Student Driver" sticker on a car?

I'm learning how to drive and my mom recently put "student driver: please be patient" stickers around our car. I was wondering how other drivers would perceive it if they were behind/beside me.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ What happened to just controlling your emotions?

This is not another left lane post although that sparked this post. I've seen with a lot of these more divisive post that for safety the onus is on the person thats being safe to move over and, let the more dangerous drivers just speed away. A lot of times I will even see people in the comments admit to being these type of dangerous drivers.

Now I understand the logic behind this. You can't police how others drive so for your own sake its best to remove yourself from a potentially dangerous situation.

But why? Not the logic, but the people that can't control their emotions. We've gotten to the point where endangering others, and yourself is seem like the norm. Where the only rules that matter are your own personal rules regardless of the law or etiquette.

Like are you guys this angry in your everyday life or does this just happen when you are driving?

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ High beams at night

Idk what it is but at least where I live, people keeping their high beams on at night is a huge problem and I’m constantly being blinded on my way home at night.

For an example last night I was making a left on a solid green and while waiting, this car that was in the left turn lane from the opposing side of traffic had their high beams on and I was blinded and therefore couldn’t see oncoming traffic. I flashed my high beams at them multiple times to alert them that they had theirs on and they didn’t do anything about it. I eventually made my turn and had to pull over bc I saw black dots everywhere.

I probably have about over 10+ encounters with drivers leaving their high beams on at night (despite my drive home being only 25 min) and it never used to be this bad.

American Safety Institute 4 Hour Course, Need Advice

I don’t know if anyone has this issue. Unfortunately when I looked at my address under the “my account” section they failed to list my house number. I tried to send a ticket in and they promised 48 hours to respond but nothing, its been almost 4 days.

When I submitted the ticket I had no email confirming anything either, I checked and my email is right. Called their line and no matter what time of day it says the line is currently unavailable. I tried all the other options when I called, same thing.

Ignoring the illegal overtakers, did the cammer car have any opportunity to safely move over to allow the faster passers by?

So ignoring the obviously illegal overtakers, did the cammer car have any safe opportunity to move over? Does the cammer even have any obligation to move over to allow faster passers by?

Would it have been better to tuck in, allow the faster passers by, then return to the passing lane at the slower rate?

I knoe they aren't legal, but why do people do them?

I see so many of these. (blacked out license plates)
I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and say that not all owners of these vehicles are planning to hit and run when they get into an accident.

It seems like its a trend.

I recently learned that they aren't legal.

They are still picked up by toll cameras.

Why are so many people doing this? Whats the mind behind people who are ordering these?

Photo is from google search.

God forbid you speed up before changing lanes to the left…

So this is something I see all the time and it just happened to me 15 minutes ago, on my way to work. Now I’ve always HATED people who cruise up on-ramps at like 30-40mph, then try to merge into 70 mph traffic at that speed, but then some people take it further.

I was in the middle lane on the freeway and this pickup truck merged into the right lane. At this point he’s doing maybe 55mph in a 70. I’m like 4 car lengths behind but going 70 and closing the gap. This guy has nobody in front of him whatsoever. He wants to get in the left lane to speed, but instead of continuing to get up to speed in the right lane, he just keeps his turn signal on and puts all his focus into cutting me off at his 55mph speed without even accelerating as he does so. After he forces me to brake, THEN he starts accelerating and gets over into the left and disappears . WHY?! WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS?! Like I said, he had nobody in front of him. It was also completely clear behind my car. People are annoying lol

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ What's the mentality here

Other then just having complete main character syndrome. Driving up a single lane mountain road with a line of cars stuck behind them barely going the speed limit. The road finally opens up to 2 lanes for a mile to pass but all of a sudden that same person is drag racing you because God forbid they get passed.

Venting You should not be driving under the speed limit

It’s beyond frustrating when someone drives below the speed limit, given that the road/weather conditions are good. All it takes is one person to cause traffic, and it’s always the slow person that does it, especially if they’re not in the right most lane. If you are not comfortable going the speed limit, you should not be driving on that road.

Edit: To clarify, this is mostly about smaller roads, not large highways like i-95.

Need Advice Is this a legal maneuver?

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have my driving test soon and I believe it may take this route so I had a question about this intersection.

There's a bike lane on the right, and then another narrow paved strip between the bike lane and the curb that looks like a shoulder or gutter.

If traffic is backed up in the regular lanes, would it be legal to use the bike lane + the shoulder area within 200 feet of the intersection to make a right turn?

Basically, can I use both areas to get around the stopped traffic and make my right turn, or do I have to wait in the regular lane?

This is in California for context. Thank you so much.
