What are the cracks in the skin?

503

u/cryptiquarian Mar 06 '26

I thought they look like tattoos. It's their respective "curses". After god banished Adam and Eve from the garden, he also gave them punishments. Adam would work all his life, grow crops from rough ground with his own hands, Eve would experience excruciating pain in childbirth. Hence cracks on Adam's hands and Eve's stomach.

Lust, and stomach cursed because of greed of satisfying the flesh actually no other person was right about child birth

43

u/Significant_Coach880 Mar 06 '26

Cursed with the horny, shame.

26

u/Forsaken-Seaweed-143 Mar 06 '26

Lust isn't always sexual

13

u/GlennHaven Mar 06 '26

A bit harder to see, but they're also present on Adam's eyes

8

u/cryptiquarian Mar 06 '26

I suppose so? Eating the apple was supposed to make them see apart wrong from right, know the good and evil.

7

u/Kakiwee Mar 07 '26

I wish that was the only part of me that hurt during labour.

33

u/sdoublejj Mar 06 '26

Makes me think of an anime called Dr Stone. The characters have a similar aesthetic

3

u/PlagiT Mar 07 '26

The stone fragments in her hair make me think it's in reference to the anime "doctor stone", the aesthetic overall is really similar too

So, very vague and pretty much without spoilers: The cracks are from being unpetrified

1

u/SPYKEtheSeaUrchin Mar 07 '26

I think those are black roses

1

u/Busy_Insect_2636 Mar 08 '26

I'm quite sure it's cuz they're made of clay

1

u/PlagiT Mar 08 '26

Possible, tho doctor stone definitely seems to be an inspiration

1

u/-BongusBingus- Mar 12 '26

Those are flowers not stone.. I don’t think so.. and the cracks are indeed cuz they’re made of clay 💔 the ones on the hands and stomach are curse, not cracks.

1

u/PlagiT Mar 12 '26

I mean, I'm not saying they're the same, I'm saying the overall aesthetic is similar and Dr. Stone could've been an inspiration

2

u/Calvin452 Mar 07 '26

probably to show they are made of dirt and dust

2

u/mr-fatburger Mar 07 '26

I assume it's because God made them out of clay before breathing life into them

1

u/scared_titless Mar 07 '26

It looks more like like thorny vines than crack

1

u/Busy_Insect_2636 Mar 08 '26

They're made of clay

405

u/FEMFATAL_451 Mar 06 '26

Lowkey, I would not have assumed these were Adam and Eve if not for it being said

127

u/CosmackMagus Mar 06 '26

Of course not, they're missing fig leaves.

Huh. I mean, good art. But... Huh.

261

u/sameljota Mar 06 '26

Yeah I'm kinda confused too. There's artistic vision (in the artist's own words) and then there's complete randomness.

33

u/ThatOneLazyDemon Mar 06 '26

Looks like the artist just has different ways of drawing. The strokes and the designs match up pretty well. Looked at their old art and you could tell it was just older, the style was very similar.

80

u/bladezaim Mar 06 '26

Yeah good call out. Looking through the profile stuff is wildly different. Makes me question wether or not Ai is at play here.

54

u/eleleleanor Mar 06 '26

It's not wildly different, they just don't post very often. Majority of their posted art is from over a year ago, and don't forget people tend to post what they're proud of, not every single drawing. This is not AI (if you were suggesting that). This drawing is more polished than the others because they got better over the course of a year.

1

u/RobotNinja170 Mar 07 '26

I assume Adams messed up looking torso is meant to reference how one of his ribs was used to make Eve.

1

u/Ok_Journalist3859 Mar 08 '26

Make sense, they are first humans living on instinct, they would have been on hard core survival mode and need to be fit.

1

u/redboi049 Mar 08 '26

No, like, Adam's muscles looks like armour he's wearing

173

u/ClericOfMadness13 Mar 06 '26

Shouldn't eve be black since she was made from Adam...

98

u/Gutter_panda Mar 07 '26

u/catfroman Mar 06 '26

Belly button is an odd choice

101

u/BlueCalango Mar 06 '26

They should have no belly button since they have not been born, also, to add to the realism, Adam should have maybe a scar from where his rib was taken

-21

u/ssrosoart Mar 06 '26

I actually kept wondering whether to include a belly button or not, but in Adam’s case it’s written that God later closed it after taking the rib.

3

u/KingTroober Mar 07 '26

Written where?

1

u/Big_Boi_Pedro Mar 10 '26

Genesis 2:21-22

1

u/KingTroober Mar 10 '26

That verse says nothing about belly buttons

1

u/Big_Boi_Pedro Mar 10 '26

Sorry, I thought you were asking about his flesh being closed after the rib was taken. My bad

69

u/Ambitious_Ad9419 Mar 06 '26

Isn't Eve Adam's clone? (The rib thing)

58

u/imdfantom Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 06 '26

Technically, it says side.

This could be interpreted as one rib, a bunch of ribs, or even Adam being split in half.

In one interpretation the original adam (human) had two heads, four arms, four legs and was hermaphroditic, then this thing was split in half to create Adam and Eve.

And so when it says humans were made in god's image, it is talking about this 8 limbed, two headed, hermaphroditic version of human.

17

u/Troodonni Mar 06 '26

Your first paragraph sounded like nonsense but your second one actually makes me believe it and it sounds plausible lmao

21

u/imdfantom Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 06 '26

Note this idea was not unique to jewish thought.

The Greeks had a similar idea as reported by Plato.

It is by far not the mainstream interpretation, which is that it was not just a rib, but not quite splitting in half.

34

u/DEANPRIME91 Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 06 '26

Nice art, but it would be better if you gave Adam African facial features instead of just making his skin darker. His face doesn't exactly match his skin colour.

16

u/iambloby Mar 06 '26

There is definitely places in Africa in which a man could have such features. Africa is a very diverse continent you know.

30

u/DEANPRIME91 Mar 06 '26

Yes I know that Africa is diverse, but his face still reads as a European baseline rather than being designed with any specific African ethnicity in mind.. From what I've seen, it seems to be a common issue where some artists don't study ethnic differences and end up using European features as a default for every character regardless of where their background is from

1

u/Calvin452 Mar 07 '26

It's art dude, why aren't you also questioning why Eve is White.

2

u/DEANPRIME91 Mar 07 '26

My point was never about the skin color, the artist can make Adam and Eve whatever they want, it's their interpretation. It's just the combination of dark skin with purely European features that doesn't read as any specific intentional design choice. 'It's art' doesn't really explain that inconsistency.

24

u/RawToast99 Mar 06 '26

This looks like A.I., care to show your layers?

Why is Adam's ribcage... the way that it is?

19

u/eypicasso Mar 06 '26

He looks like he’s hitting that bodybuilder “suck in the stomach” pose, idk why though. OP’s response was needlessly snarky, though it is admittedly unfortunate we have to have this discussion in the first place, but I did go check the IG and the timelapses for his other recent works do seem legit.

1

u/Skullgrin140 Mar 07 '26

Not bad.

I really wasn't expecting Adam to be black but I think it's refreshing to try something different with this character in the Bible.

Great work!

1

u/LexPendragoon Mar 07 '26

Omg the amount of hate OP is receiving is monstrous. The art is itself is really good, you can definitely be proud. But some contextual choices were interesting (belly button, rib cage, etc.). But who has to stick to the context all the time ? Art can be subjective as well. Nice work OP

I mean, r/drawing has sucked for so long. If you don't draw a half naked woman, people are gonna bash the drawing

This isnt even insluting its just funny

But the artstyle is beautiful i like it

1

u/hansuluthegrey Mar 07 '26

Not sure I like the imagery of Adam being a massive muscles bulging dark skinned man with blue eyes(I'll die on the hill that drawing black characters with blue eyes is a sign that you only like the skin color because you think its cool) and eve being a buff much smaller blonde chick.

Also like another comment said he has very white features for a dark skinned person

Feels very weird and like a fetish thing. Also why are they so buff?

1

u/Fit_Bus2529 Mar 07 '26

I’ve always imagined them like humble persons being afraid of everything after they were set out of the Eden. But these two with their tough look seems to be able to manage any curse they are given and still smile and be happy. I like it a lot)

1

1

u/massiecureblock Mar 07 '26

Man, the Christianity fandom got very heated over this...

Are you by any chance inspired by @/polluxery on insta? The graphic elements, lineart and some choices of clothing design remind me of his work. I like it and I can tell it's not ai. Maybe some anatomy was pushed too far and some facial features for Adam not enough but overall the piece is nice and it doesn't matter if you made one black and one white, literally why do people care about that specifically... You don't have to apply complete logic over biblical depictions, and I say that as a Christian too... Y'all are embarrassing, especially those making it weird due to them being an interracial couple. Literally lmao.

This isn't what an r/ drawing comment section usually looks like in my experience. Some people just fixated on things they didn't like a lot more than I expected out of this sub for your piece.

Keep going op, good stuff!!

1

u/babbittybabbitt Mar 07 '26

I think this is a really cool interpretation and I don't understand the weird hater comments. Cool art, keep up the good work!

1

u/Calvin452 Mar 07 '26

1

u/cannibalcats Mar 07 '26

Very cool, but where'd they get the fur skin from

1

u/HIRANMOY_GOGOI38160 Mar 08 '26

A question: If Adam and Eve were the first human beings then their children would have had kids with each other (brother's and sister's). But Christianity, Leviticus (chapter 18), is strongly against incest.

1

u/ajeezyart Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26

Honest critique, while the art is well done, I have some major gripes

For starters, there is a lot of subconscious stereotypical fetishization. If Eve comes directly from Adam why would she be white? Even Having both of them be white would’ve been significantly better than this tbh. Theres already enough media trying to kill the concept of black love, where a black man and black woman cannot coexist with one another. While I have no issue with interracial relationships, when media goes out of its way to erase a black woman, I can’t approve

Also large muscular dark skin man with curvy white woman screams more of a pornhub search than it does anything related to Christianity (I’m not even Christian and find it kinda offensive lol)

For me personally, “good art” is not enough. What is the message you’re putting into the universe with your craft? That’s what truly matters

1

u/Busy_Insect_2636 Mar 08 '26

I'd like it if one wasn't a hot Russian model and tee other a bodybuilder. But the cracks cuz they're made of clay are pretty cool

1

u/ViolenceWithFist Mar 08 '26

Numb nuts… all people in the Bible are white.

1

u/Diligent-Map-6679 Mar 09 '26

1

u/Sharp_Educator1694 Mar 09 '26
