Seasonal Start Mega Guide

This post is an update to the Seasonal Mega Guide.

You can find generic leveling guides as well as other advice at Maxroll and Icy Veins. For console players, you can find some advice at https://www.soulstone.gg/.

This guide is meant to be a little more specific, as well as cover aspects not touched in those guides, such as Group Leveling, Console Leveling, Seasonal Leveling Tactics, and Leveling Secrets. (These will all be in replies to this thread to allow specific linking. As such, at the moment this post is currently a work in progress.) Some of what I post will be shared from the above sites, amended to add a little extra efficiency.

GUIDE Season 40 – Light's Calling

Season 40 starts on Friday, October 2nd, 2026.

The season starts at 5pm Pacific time for all console players, no matter where you live. For PC (NA/US) the season starts at 5pm Pacific time, for PC (EU) the season starts at 5pm Central European time, and for PC (TW/KR) it starts at 5pm Korea time. You can see a countdown of all these start times here.

This is the second of four guides I am posting for Season 40. The others are:

The cosmetic rewards for finishing the season journey are the Wings of Lempo, which are some really nice golden butterfly wings. You also get a Primal Hunter portrait frame, and the Taennin pet, which is a golden dragon with glowing diaphanous white wings.

Theme

The season theme is Light's Calling. Angelic crucibles will drop anywhere in the game once you reach level 70. Using an angelic crucible on an equippable level 70 legendary item will turn the item into a sanctified item.

Sanctifying a legendary item (level 70 only, not crafted) will reroll the item (randomly choosing new affixes) and give it primal ancient stats. This is essentially the same as how upgrading a legendary to primal works with cube recipe 11. Like those primals, you can only equip one sanctified item. Equipping a sanctified item does not prevent you from equipping an upgrade-to-legendary (aka “crafted”) primal, or vice-versa.

A sanctified item also has a randomly-selected class-specific sanctified power. The powers range from very little impact to very powerful, and a few even change how you play the game for certain builds. A particular example of this is the sanctified strafe power for demon hunters, that turns both the Unhallowed Essence and Shadow builds into spin-to-win strafe builds. Another one is the sanctified whirlwind for barbarians, that pulls in everyone continuously regardless of crowd control immunity. You can see the full list of powers here. If you get an unsatisfying result from sanctifying, you can resanctify it for another attempt (you should not do this with primals). You can also salvage the unsatisfying sanctified item – see the link for materials that can result.

Angelic crucibles drop often enough that you should consider using one as soon as possible on one of your weapons, simply to get the maximum damage boost possible. Save your primordial ashes for the Altar of Rites completion. At that point you can pivot to a crafted primal weapon (as those are easier to get perfect) and target a harder-to-perfect item with sanctification. Later on in the game, once you have all the sanctified items for all your builds, you can burn crucibles on puzzle rings because they count as ancients, both for the Altar of Rites and Kanai's Cube.

Haedrig's Gifts

The Haedrig's Gifts for Season 40 are as follows:

  • Barbarian: Horde of the Ninety Savages
  • Crusader: Aegis of Valor
  • Demon Hunter: Gears of Dreadlands
  • Monk: Patterns of Justice
  • Necromancer: Masquerade of the Burning Carnival
  • Witch Doctor: Mundunugu's Regalia
  • Wizard: Typhon's Veil

Many of these sets will need some form of help in order to finish the GR20 / Torment IV requirements, either through lucky gambles, drops, or (in the case of the necromancer) going the full LoD route. Once you get your full 6 pieces only the Masquerade of the Burning Carnival presents some difficulty due to the requirement of the Haunted Visions amulet to really make it work.

Be aware that these are the 5th sets created for Diablo III, and as such do not have a set dungeon. This means you will need to save at least one full set to complete (not master) a set dungeon as part of the season journey. This should not be an issue as you will also need to save all 4 sets that do have a set dungeon for the Altar of Rites.

Conquests

The conquests for Season 40 are Speed Demon / Need for Speed (2 minute L70 Nephalem Rift at Torment X or higher), On a Good Day / I Can't Stop (3 legendary Gems to 65), Boss Mode / Worlds Apart (kill all bosses except Vidian at max level on Torment X in 20 minutes or less), Curses! / Stars Align (kill 350 in a L70 cursed chest event on Torment X difficulty), and Years of War and Dynasty (GR55 with 6 different 6pc sets).

Overall this is eminently doable. I will make a separate post with detailed recommendations prior to the season start.

Why play seasonal?

We play seasonal for:

The fresh start. Every season is a fresh start on a new naked level 1 character with no money, artisans, gold, experience, or gear. We all get to experience the zero-to-hero dopamine rush again. This is helped by the free 6-piece endgame set from the journey to kickstart the endgame.

The themes. We have a rotating set of six different themes to mix up your gameplay and keep things fresh. Most of the themes have at least some influence on which builds are strongest. This season theme is one of the most unique in terms of changing how some builds are played. At worst it amounts to "only" getting another perfect "primal" item if you spend enough crucibles.

The Altar of Rites and Visions of Enmity, both of which are available only in season. The first provides you with boosts to leveling and XP, tremendous quality of life upgrades in dealing with loot, and some bonus damage and toughness. The second is a really fun (challenging or even fatal early on) source of crafting materials and legendary loot and breaks up the monotony of greater rifts.

The rewards. Cool cosmetics (wings, portrait frames, transmogs, pets) as well as extra stash slots.

More people. There’s a lot more players around and playing in the season especially at the start. Group play is very strong in D3, and it’s many people’s main focus for getting paragon points and gear.

Lastly is the competition on the leaderboards. This is mainly for greater rifts but you can also go after conquests as well as seasonal achievement points.

What builds are strong?

The top 10 adjusted clears on PC from Season 34, which was the previous time we played with the Light's Calling theme in the recycled theme era, were:

  1. LoD WoL monk
  2. Megalo AoV pony crusader
  3. Raiment monk
  4. LoD HotA barbarian
  5. Rathma necromancer
  6. Tie between Helltooth witch doctor and Firebird wizard
  7. –
  8. Natalya DH
  9. Mundunugu witch doctor
  10. Marauder DH

Two builds, Megalo AoV pony crusader and Mundunugu witch doctor, were the Haedrig's Gift. There were 2 monks, demon hunters and witch doctors in the top 10, and 1 each of barbarian, crusader, necromancer, and wizard. This is the only theme for which we have ever had 2 witch doctor builds in the top 10 adjusted clears.

Builds with the biggest gains (10 or more) in adjusted clear ranking for S34 relative to their average across the 6 different themes in the recycled theme era were: Raiment monk (25), AoV crusader (23), Shadow DH (18), Sunwuko monk (17), Mundunugu witch doctor (10), and no set witch doctor (10). The LoD WoL monk was just outside this list with a 9-rank gain.

The builds with the biggest drops (10 or more) were Tal Rasha wizard (-18), no set necromancer (-16), Akkhan crusader (-15), no set crusader (-14), Typhon wizard (-12), PoJ monk (-12), Inarius and Trag'Oul necromancers (-12), Savages barbarian (-11), and no set Wizard (-10). All of these builds gain nothing from the sanctified powers, and this is reflected in the rankings of their clears.

Notably, the AoV crusader is ranked 2 in overall push standing as well as the 2nd highest gain in relative ranking. AoV was also the only Haedrig's Gift to clear GR150 in week 1 of season 34. The only other Haedrig's Gift that gets significant gains from the season theme is the Mundunugu witch doctor, ranked 9th and with a 10-rank gain. Neither of these builds place in the top 10 with any other theme.

Among the Haedrigs Gifts, the Typhon wizard, PoJ monk and Savages barbarian in particular perform much worse than their average ranking with this season theme. This makes the AoV crusader far and away the best choice for casual players, with no need to pivot to another build. Just take your pony and go.

The dominance of the LoD WoL monk is incredible. The gap to 2nd place (the AoV crusader) is 4.6 GR tiers. It’s a massive gap, enough to encompass from the rank 2 build all the way down to rank 12. No other top adjusted clear has posted a gap this large in the recycled theme era. Monks also dominated the overall week 1 PC leaderboard summary across classes for Season 34. The only other build that we never see in the top 10 outside of this theme is the Raiment monk, with a massive leap to 3rd place in terms of adjusted clear, a 25-rank gain relative to its average ranking.

Finally, the Shadow demon hunter landed just outside the top 10 adjusted clears (at rank 13), but posted the 3rd highest gain in ranking relative to its average for this theme. This is the strongest season theme not only for the Shadow DH, but also the Unhallowed Essence DH, both of which gain the sanctified strafe ability. They are both outside the top 10 (as is the LoD clusterbombs strafe DH which is still very weak) but are a lot of fun to play and this is the only theme that enables this gameplay.

When does Season 40 end and what will happen to my characters and gear?

We will not know when Season 40 ends until Blizzard makes an announcement.

At the end of every season, all of your seasonal characters will convert to non-seasonal. Solo self-found characters will be reverted to characters that can do group play, as there is no non-seasonal solo self-found mode. Characters will retain their normal / hardcore status when converting to non-seasonal. All your characters and their followers will retain their equipped gear. All your characters will retain their inventoried items. All your materials (inventoried separately from stash) will be transferred to your non-seasonal materials. Any extracted Kanai's Cube powers will be transferred to non-seasonal. Items in your stash will be mailed to you.

Angelic crucibles and sanctified items will not be transferred to non-seasonal. They will simply vanish.

Finally, all your seasonal paragon XP will be added to your non-seasonal paragon XP, and new paragon points will be awarded to your characters as appropriate. The paragon XP to paragon point scaling is nonlinear; for example, transferring 1000 paragon points worth of seasonal XP to a 2000 paragon point non-seasonal XP pool does not add up to 3000 paragon points. You can play around with this using a paragon calculator.

Conclusion

I will update the above sections with more guides prior to the start of the season, as well as early results from the opening week.

Good luck with your season start, fellow Nephalem, and never forget that town is lava!

Yesterday’s play

Was hilarious. 10 dropped primals and only one useful but that’s the most I have gotten in 3 hours. A rainbow goblin randomly when running a bounty (in an area I never run when looking) that gave me the hamburger and then that spawned a vision. It was like a chain reaction. Still looking for the right gear and only at 1200 paragon. #workingsucks

QUESTION Current best non seasonal offline paragon point farmer?

I have a little over 1030 paragon points (I know low). I want to farm gr120 as it has a good chance to drop primals (or at least I think so). All my current builds just dont seem to cut it. I will admit I probably am not doing things right. But I have a Pony Crusader, Chicken witch doctor, TragOuls Necro, Tals Comet meteor Wizard. Most of them have 70+ legendary gems. Some have 4-5 Augments. They all have crafted primal weapons with augments. I am playing on Console (Switch 2) offline. Thanks!

MONK Sub-1k paragon Monk GR 150

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96zuvNvZHSI

Just wanted to share this clear using LoD Monk, with (just!) under 1k paragon. It isn't the lowest paragon Monk 150 ever, that goes to a PoJ clear from Season 36 (with 985 paragon).

I'd been wondering why this incredibly strong build hadn't achieved a sub-1k 150 yet, so I pivoted off the AoV Crusader I'd been using and cooked up a Monk. That shift gave me relatively little "runway" to work with, since I was already a bit over 800 paragon when I started farming up Monk gear. That, plus a few dumb choices on my part regarding rift selection, almost pushed me over the 1k mark before I could get the clear. But not quite!

I still don't know why there aren't more sub-1k clears. It was not extremely difficult, and I think felt a bit easier than when I did this challenge using Frenzy Barb in Soul Shards season. And, I am not a very experienced Monk player. My gear here is ok at best. My Trapped and Enforcer gems were at 112, and my LoD at 99 of course.

The real bottleneck for this build is the boss fight. Since Stricken is generally not used, you pretty much need a Power or a Shield for the boss. In the rift I ran just before this one, I spawned the boss with 7 minutes remaining but no pylon, and was unable to kill him in time. On the other hand, you really don't need a Conduit to get a clear (I didn't have one here) since on a decently long level with reasonable mob density you can kill most of the elites just with your own damage. Add in a Shield or Power pylon, and you basically are a Conduit.

I would be pretty surprised if this stands as the low paragon mark for the season. A few players out there have recently taken to completing this challenge multiple times in a season across the different game modes (Normal, HC, SSF, SSF HC), so I expect there will be at least a few more sub-1k clears before the season ends.

DEMON HUNTER I play Monk, Crusader and, Demon Hunter. Wanting advice (1,651 paragon)

Hello Diablo 3 people.

(Note) This post came out as a mouth word salad so sorry if I seem confusing, I honestly feel confused about what to do next. Please give me advice.

I am currently SSF 1,651 paragon and I already cleared 150 with my LOD Monk. I have an augmented Shadow Demon Hunter and I have acquired most of the ancient items required for Natalya's which is what I decided I want to try pushing with.

My Crusader is missing a few ancients and I just cleared a 130 on Crusader with 6 minutes remaining. And a while back now I cleared a 132 with 4 minutes remaining on Demon Hunter at 1100 paragon.

Anyway, I guess I'm wondering, at my current paragon would augments on the Natalya's set be a waste? Because, I get the feeling I need to be like 2.2k paragon for a decent push. Also the rank 1 on SSF who inspired me to try Nats, he already got a new personal best with Shadow. Although at 3.3k paragon you can probably push with anything.

I also searched a video of a Natalya's 150 and the player was 3.5k ish paragon and struggling to finally beat the 150.

And yeah since my Crusader can clear a 130 in 9 minutes maybe I should get the final ancients and augment him, because I see a few 2k and lower SSF 150s on the leader board. So maybe my plan should be to push the Crusader now and then when I'm at like 2.2k then use my Natalya's?

I just have it stuck in my head how cool it would be to have my personal best push on DH be Natalya's. I can hold onto the gear and it's not going anywhere. My Nats setup has guardian's, and dawn equipped so kind of like the low paragon set up. And I know 1,651 is nothing to scoff at, it's just that Demon Hunter isn't as much of a free 150 compared to Monk.

Anyway, I could use any input that pops into your head... Please?

Thanks.

QUESTION GR Survivability Tips

Morning everyone, I'm looking for tips to survive better in GRs. I'm ponysader low paragon, like mid 400's. I have 3 cheat deaths from various sources and they're all getting activated regularly and im dying on top of those as well. Damage isn't the issue, im killing stuff really fast but im also dying instantly to random stuff. I have rank 25 wildebeests gizzard and I've begun putting paragon into life% and life on hit. Is there anything else I can do? First season for me so not familiar with the basics. Thanks!

GUIDE Controller Setup (Steam Input)

Steam Input Controller Config

TL;DR Super cool Drag & Drop Controller Config that was made to be Console Controller friendly but can be modified to suit extra buttons.

Hey there! I just wanted to share my controller setup using Steam Input for those who just a drop and play controller config. I designed it to be very controller friendly.

Notes:
- Game must be added to Steam as a Non-Steam game.
- Game needs to be named "Diablo 3"
- This setup uses Steam Input to map keybinds and all it's interactions.
- Nearly every keybind/feature is covered.
- Setup was made with a basic controller with A, B, X, Y, DPad, L+R Joysticks, triggers, bumpers, start and select. Anything that differs from this can be configured and changed easily.
- Emote Wheel requires Num-Lock ON.
- Menu navigation is mouse based.
- Dedicated Switch to Gameplay Mode & Menu mode.
- Emote wheel and Game menu

Here is some previews of the two Radial Menus that can be used to open the in game menus.
IMGUR PREVIEW: In-game previews & Layout config (Imgur)

Mobile Friendly Preview: https://imgur.com/a/preview-of-steam-input-controller-config-custom-menus-iqg5Bg4

Instructions:

  1. Copy link below into a browser address bar.
  2. Press "Open Steam" on browser pop up.
  3. Press "Apply Layout" in the Controller Config pop up.
  4. Play Diablo III! 😂

Setup for Non-Steam game:

  1. Top left of steam, click Games.
  2. Click "Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library..."
  3. Find the battle.net option, check it.
  4. Press "Add Selected Programs", this should add it to your library.
  5. Find your game in your library, right click and hit properties.

Note about Step 6: You'll need "Keep signed in" in the blizzard launcher enabled otherwise this can break and won't allow steam overlay, also battle.net launcher should not be running when trying to play otherwise it may not work as steam overlay won’t proper attach to the game executable.
6. Change Target to ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Battle.net\Battle.net.exe" --exec="launch D3"), with the brackets and change path if not at that path.
7. Change Start in to (C:\Program Files (x86)\Battle.net), change path if needed.
8. That's all, diablo 3 should auto-start now with steam overlay on it.

CONTROLLER CONFIG LINK BELOW:
LINK: steam://controllerconfig/2581147601/3819478674
(Put the link in a browser and it should open a pop up to open steam, link is directly from steam.)

F.A.Q:

Q: Why do this post?
A: I noticed No native controller support and wanted to share a Controller Config I made to share that could be a drag & drop option for others!

Q: Why Num-Lock ON?
A: For some reason I do not know, the emote wheel doesn't work without it. If you don't care about using the emote wheel then you should be fine. It only needs to be ON if you wanna use it, it does nothing otherwise.

Q: Why is navigation mouse based?
A: I wanted an easy drag & drop config that didn't edit anything else. So I made a special mode for menus.

Q: What are the modes?
A: The modes are different controller layouts that can be switch between to make things easy across the game. General Gameplay & Menus.

Q: How to access the menus?
A:
- For Game Menus, just use the right joystick select your desired option and release the joystick to open that menu. (General Gameplay mode)
- For Emote Wheel, hold DPAD LEFT and use the right joystick to select the emote you want, then click press the joystick to use the emote. (General Gameplay mode)

Q: Bug-Free?
A:
- Game Menu & Emote Wheel can sometimes conflict if you let go of the DPAD LEFT button while trying to use the emote wheel. Just let go of the joystick before letting go of DPAD LEFT, and you should be fine.
- Inventory can be opened in General Gameplay mode, but if you switch to menus you need to press start to close it from that mode, otherwise just switch to General Gameplay and press Select again to toggle it closed. If ok with changing the config, you can change the Select input that is "Enter" key in Menus mode to I, then you no longer have this problem.

Q: How to switch modes?
A: Press click the left joystick to switch between General Gameplay mode and Menus mode.

Q: What does each mode do?
A:
- For General Gameplay, it puts you into a more controller friendly movement/attack mode. Movement can be done by just moving the left joystick to the desired direction. Use LEFT BUMPER to stay in place to aim if you wish or use right trigger primary attack regardless.
- For Menus, this just puts you into a more menu friendly mode that you can use the right joystick to move the mouse whereever you want to deal with all the game menus(Map, Inventory, etc.)

Q: Will this be updated?
A: Maybe. No promises, I'm mainly sharing it as a finished config. If I do share an updated version, it may be a separate config entirely.

Q: Links are broken?
A: MSG me and I'll see about updating it.

Q: The aim area is too short in General Gameplay mode. How can I make it bigger?
A: Go to the controller config, press Edit Layout, select joystick, press on the cog next to the "Mouse Region" option, change Region Size to your desired range. Recommended between 20x-40x.

Q: Launching from steam only opens the blizzard launcher, what do I do?
A: Press Play in blizzard launcher, it should still run fine.

QUESTION Optimizing Shadow Impale dh

Hello all! I've been playing d3 casually for a while but with the new season starting I wanted to try pushing gr150. Right now I can comfortably run 100-105 and my highest push is 118. I have the rolls optimized so I can keep vengeance up all the time and my dps seems to be doing okay. My main struggle is getting killed by even basic mobs immediately while pushing above 115ish. I'm hoping for some pointers to help optimize further, any help is appreciated!

QUESTION Does Mirinae proc Holy Cause?

So I'm trying to make my Crusader build a bit more comfortable at higher GRs. At least high for me (1100 Paragon doing 3 minute 30 second 120's.)

I was wondering when the legendary gem Mirinae, Teardrop of the Starweaver procs does it also heal you off of Holy Cause?

Thanks.

I started with the AoV crusader but I'm really enjoying the shadow impale DH so far. Very fun and my eyes aren't continuously blinded, haha. I might try this build with my son who is playing the crusader and hasn't yet finished his season journey.

MONK Seize the Initiative vs Transcendence

First time playing monk after season 28 so I'm a bit rusty. (Have done solo 150s, by solo play, on wizards, necromancers and crusader). My question is about the passives for LoD WoL monk. How important is the attack speed boost from Seize the Initiative? At 1100 paragon I have done a 130 clear in 4:15 with Transcendence instead of Seize and then another 130 with Seize instead of Transcendence a bit slower but only because of a poorer map.
I know the importance of having Epiphany up for damage and protection, and also Serenity of course when possible and the high dodge chance too. At times the build is still quite squishy though. The other three passives are Guardian's Path, Beacon of Ytar and Near Death.

So the question boils down to how crucial Seize the Initiative is? (I know it can vary according to pushing/speeding/amount of paragon points etc.). It could also be one of the other toughness passives than the healing from Transcendence.

QUESTION Endgame help - crusader

Hi !

So finally got my crusader build up and running as per maxroll guide the fist of heaven one.

Even my follower has her gear. Im parsgon 730. My 3 gem ar level 30.

Question is im pretty much stuck a GR110 wich is not bad I guess BUT...

Almost none of my gear are ancient and none are primal.

So what is your strategy to gear up in all ancient ? Do you gamble or just run GR and hoping for the best ?

Also where the F.. are the primal.I know.its like 1 in 400 but I should have at least 2 wich I dont. Only have one.

I also need primordial ashes for the altar and dont know how to get it as I dont have primal to salvage..

Whats your Thought ?

Also what his generally your endgame routine?

Thanks.

QUESTION How to find power-leveling on console?

Back on pc it was always very easy to find someone to power-level a new character. It seems impossible on PS5. How do you do it?
