Discussion 💭🗯️ Musicians whose careers stalled after Covid

Post image

Camila Cabello was huge 2017-2019, but her popularity really dwindled post Covid. What other musicians were popular in the 2010s but fizzled after 2020s?

I actually looked him up the other day because I realized he had disappeared of the map and apparently he canceled his last tour midway through due to mental health reasons and has subsequently decided to take a step back from the lime light

Who can afford tickets to anything anymore.

u/therampage Jun 15 '26

My single best friend works a weekend job just to go to festivals.....I don't understand it.

Some record setting acts this year. Just a matter of separating wheat from chaff

Millionaires +

some shows are cheaper than others

1

u/Zack_GLC Jun 16 '26

Not all events are super expensive.

u/Reditate Jun 15 '26

The people that pack stadiums for other concerts.

u/Vladi-Barbados Jun 15 '26

I guess the nba playoffs didn’t just happen and the World Cup totally didn’t bring in over a milllion visitors. As if every city isn’t still bursting with shows and performances every weekend.

Credit card debt is gonna be a gross awakening one of these days.

Whether people can go - or if they can afford to go - and the economic wealth of people who do go - are three completely different things.

u/ggmk6 Jun 17 '26

You guys really can’t afford like $150 for a concert ticket?

1

u/NomenclatureBreaker Jun 19 '26

You offering to buy?

u/cidthekid07 Jun 15 '26

No, it was mental health issues!

From the low tickets sales…..

😂😂😂

Even if it was truly for that reason, I can see how that could set someone's mental health off and their depression worse . Why are we laughing when we cry when celebs/normal ppl off themselves. No one learned from Linkin Park.

u/tyrenanig Jun 15 '26

These are kids on this sub who don’t think any deeper.

7

u/MrIndianaBones Jun 15 '26

Sadly, it's not just kids.

There are plenty of people in this world that will set your house on fire and then call the Fire Department.

Or steal from you and help you look for what they stole.

They know it is wrong, they just don't care.

u/rutilated_quartz Jun 15 '26

shawn can wipe his tears with the millions of dollars he has.

as far as linkin park, chester's family and friends were the people who could have helped him, not his fans or the general public. chester's issues began long before fame and there is little we could've done to help him. he isn't dead because people said stupid shit on reddit.

3

u/SamePassenger_ Jun 15 '26

for sure, I could myself….i have myself. I was just laughing at the joke, it wasn’t more serious to me beyond that

2

u/TheHaplessBard Jun 16 '26

Jokes aside, the rise and fall must have been rough. I remember him and his songs being everywhere in the mid to late 2010s and then post-COVID, I never heard from him ever again.

1

u/CliffGif Jun 15 '26

No it was global warming

1

u/Mandy_M87 Jun 15 '26

Could be both. If he wasn't in a great place, and ticket sales were also low, maybe he decided not to bother.

When tickets are $100+ how does any stadium get filled. Unless your a swiftie, or dolly parton how can anyone fill up stadiums.

23

u/caretaeking Jun 15 '26

BTS’ tour this year has over 80 dates and all sold out in just the fan presale, didn’t even make it to general sale. And they’re all stadiums that American artists are struggling to sell. Oh, and tickets are expensiiiiiiive

3

u/drinkingCoffeePeas Jun 16 '26

Yeah, I tried to get tickets to see them in Toronto, all tickets to both shows there were gone within like 15 minutes of the fan presale going live, it was absurd. I don’t even know what the tickets cost because they were gone before I got that far.

1

u/hearts_and_sharts Jun 16 '26

One of the biggest bands in the entire world sold out?

No way?!

1

u/dietdrpeppermd Jun 17 '26

Can confirm they are expensive. I’m seeing them in Toronto and it was a LOT

0

u/rasta-ragamuffin Jun 17 '26

It's insane to me. I don't understand it at all. Their music totally sucks and they're not even cute.

1

u/i-have-won Jun 27 '26

Their music is awesome thats why they keep getting more fans everything they release new music and it helps that they are great guys.

Regionally, George Strait sold out 4 shows in Austin at the Moody Center, and the prices started at like $200!

Edit: I love that George is an agreed upon exception to the rule. I saw him for free a few years ago, and it was, indeed, absolutely spectacular.

3

u/throwawaysunglasses- Jun 15 '26

This isn’t surprising at all. They LOVE George in Texas.

3

u/ImpalaSS-05 Jun 15 '26

George Strait fans are typically Boomers and Gen X, you know, people who have deep pockets. Sadly, the opposite is true of me and my fellow Millennial and Gen Z peers.

1

u/Eiraviking Jun 15 '26

George Strait is a giant. I would pay that without thinking and drive a day if he came to my country.

2

u/Sataypufft Jun 15 '26

If he played within 3 hours of me for that price I'd deal with the gouging. He isn't getting any younger... I paid more than I'm proudly of to take my wife to see Diamond Rio and Travis Tritt this summer but she's happy so c'est la vie. My String Cheese, Jrad, shitty jam band of choice, etc tickets are still under $60.

3

u/Eiraviking Jun 15 '26

I mean George Strait is a no brainer. Even here in Norway we listen to him, at least in the countryside.

I wouldn’t think about price to hear love without end amen, write this down or give it away from the man himself lol. Seems like such a vibe live

4

u/MarsWean Jun 15 '26

Where I live, people spend over €150 to see a shitty rapper who, without auto-tune, wouldn't even be hired to host a sausage festival.

3

u/HornyGooner4402 Jun 15 '26

By making the stadiums smaller maybe

5

u/Massive-Exercise4474 Jun 15 '26

They're have shows at school gymnasiums

1

u/ZaftigTootsies Jun 16 '26

I saw In this moment in a school gym!

1

u/United_Pain Jun 16 '26

That's awesome! I've never seen them live but they seem like they would be great!

1

u/ZaftigTootsies Jun 16 '26

Absolutely fabulous. She even did costume changes.

2

u/Fidget808 Jun 16 '26

$100 for a concert ticket isn’t bad at all these days

1

u/blowham33 Jun 15 '26

Shane Gillis been going crazy packing stadiums

1

u/WintersDoomsday Jun 15 '26

$100 woukd be nice try $500 now

1

u/Mediocre-Age-1729 Jun 16 '26

My daughter asked me for birthday concert tickets to a band called Tame Impala. I couldn't pick them out of a lineup or tell you a song they sing. They sold out an entire North American stadium tour in minutes. Then added more shows and sold them out too. Don't ask the cost...it's fucking disgusting

1

u/saltoniclee Jun 17 '26

Or The Eagles

3

u/Wrong-Landscape-2508 Jun 15 '26

I would need a mental health break too if I wasn’t able to make money at work

3

u/toriegg Jun 15 '26

You suddenly afford it when you really want it.

2

u/Acrobatic_Purpose736 Jun 15 '26

I love Shawn but tickets in my area were $400 minimum! Hence the low sales.

2

u/braaahms Jun 15 '26

That will probably be a big thing going forward since basically everyone besides upper middle class and higher is getting priced out of concert tickets

2

u/dotrockss Jun 15 '26

Low ticket sales would contribute to my mental health as an artist.

1

u/Dense-Ad-8226 Jun 15 '26

Low ticket sales lead to mental breakdown.

1

u/roguetowel Jun 15 '26

He's been pretty open about his mental health over the years, so I'd say it was more that.

1

u/Beginning_Owl_9425 Jun 15 '26

That can really affect a man's mental health

1

u/spacegenerator Jun 15 '26

That’s always why.

1

u/teabagdiplomat19 Jun 16 '26

Almost 62 mil monthly listeners is crazy tho
