Why does it feel so good when you search for a package you need, that it's in the deb repos so you dont have to use flatpak or something else
maybe we all have ocd

A new rule has been enacted regarding low quality posts. Anything deemed to be low quality will be removed. This includes posts joking about lesbians.

If you are interested in wanting to have your artwork potentially enter the next release of Debian, an error regarding the news not entering debian-devel-announce before deadline extensions has left the project with only one submission for now.
Click the mailing list for more information about what is expected.

Hey Team,
I just completed a fresh install on a refurbished Lenovo tiny desktop, i7 gen 8, intel UHD graphic.
im booting into TTY mode only, any suggestions ? is this a graphics issue, I can see watchdog will not close upon reboot hinting to a kernel error.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1149499
I have this problem and saw other people were having it too. The bandaid is to boot into the older kernel. Another workaround is the use of `modprobe.blacklist=hid_asus` mentioned in the bug.
I think you can technically figure out how to patch that specific fix into your kernel, but I already know that can be a pain.
Anyway I guess it will be shipped in some future update, hopefully soon. Just posting here because I don't think everyone else also is following the bug

English is not my first language
I need to screenrecord because college
I ve been struggling with screenrecording apps like simplescreenrecord, kazam, obs, kooha, and many others, few of them need the x11 (and i dont know how to switch to that), and the other apps can record but when i open the video it appears all black
I dont know too much of how to do these things , i can understand english but my first language is spanish if that helps
Please help
Thanks to u/Gianfyy I got a 2nd boost motivation to keep pushing on this machine. It came with a suspicious Windows 8 calling for help
This was quite the experience, Chromium browsers killed the xfce session as soon as a video or a song started to play, only Firefox ESR did the job, I tried, Debian 13, MX Linux, Linux Mint in live mode, and with that publication I manage to understand that old processors work differently than modern ones, it's obvious, but I never thought that distros and programs would feel it that hard.
Here it is, a last oxygen tank for this old machine, to do basic stuff for their owners until it just calculate it's last calculation.

i wanna know if debian is good for progamming, are the old packages actually a worry? i'm familiar with linux and have used it for the last year
I wanted to share my experience getting Canonical's Myna local speech-to-text tool running on Debian 13.
I successfully tested it on Debian 13 (Trixie), with GNOME 48 under Wayland. French voice dictation works on my machine.
The installation was not straightforward because Myna is primarily targeted at Ubuntu:
snapd was too old for the version of Myna I installed, so I upgraded it..deb, so I built it from the official upstream source instead of adding the Ubuntu PPA to Debian.I've documented the commands, dependencies and troubleshooting steps in the official Myna project's GitHub Discussions:
https://github.com/canonical/myna/discussions/58
This is an unofficial community-tested procedure validated on one Debian 13 machine, not a claim of official Debian support. Other hardware and desktop configurations may need additional adjustments.
Hopefully this helps other Debian users who want local, offline desktop dictation. Feedback from anyone who tries it on another setup would be very welcome.

Hey. so I finally got ready to switch to linux on my main PC, but I'm running into a stupid issue:
The PC has a RTX 5090 so when I start the debian installer I get no video (I assume it's because I need to install the drivers manually). But since I have no video I can't really do anything.
My Mainboard doesn't have HDMI (or VGA) so the only video output is the 5090.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
(also yes nextime i will just buy radeon)

found out the original one was way too cramped, so I tweaked it to look good with (almost) every aspect ratio, as well as adding a shadow to the swirl

I'm switching to Linux today (dual boot for now, on one drive) and Debian just seems and looks cool and beautiful. I have Ryzen 5 5600; Rx 6600 and 32gb ddr4.
I mostly play single player games (repack versions), so I don't worry about kernel level anticheat ones.
What would I need to know and do before starting my journey on Debian?

Hello, friends. I'm new to Debian Cinn from Mint Cinn, but still newish overall to Linux. After being taught how to add bazaar and practicing on my tester, I've moved my laptop to Debian from Mint.
What's going on is that my pictures are icons. I thought the solution would be easy. I found the command shown below. It did show my pictures in the folders, but my desktop had nothing. I have to change the integer to true to see all of my desktop stuffs, or even in folders. Did I follow the wrong rabbit ?
gsettings set org.nemo.desktop show-desktop-icons false

Guys, I’ve heard VRR is experimental on Debian Gnome still. Is it true? If so what does it mean? It either works or no?

I always open the terminal and do the good ol' apt update upgrade, because it feels like a daily ritual for me. I remember when I first started using linux in 2013 or so and that's how I've always done it
