Drag Queen Kori King has Jeffree Star pressed after viral impersonation mocking the Beauty Guru
youtu.beDonning white makeup and a hot pink wig, Kori King hilariously impersonates and takes down known problematic influencer and beauty guru Jeffree Star.
Jeffree addressed the videos saying “Very drag queen behavior. You’re stuck in a bar, lip-synching. I get it. You hate yourself with your $2 tips….Now they’re doing white face.”
The internet is eating this up and has put Star in the spotlight yet again for his problematic behavior.

Pop Culture BrendaD Ickson Updates?
Can someone share any recent news of our beloved BrendaD Ickson? I am one of the ones who has been blocked on all her social media, so I can't see videos or anything. I rely on the common indecency of strangers here to keep me updated.

Emerald City TV - a 1970s NYC public access television show for and about gay men
I started a thread about this just as Datalounge was dying, and I’m sure many of you are aware of these already, but I wanted to share this here for those who are interested. I find it really cool.
Someone has uploaded to YouTube episodes of a TV series created in 1970s New York City all about gay men, with interviews and topics of discussion of interest to gay men. It’s a wonderful slice of history, with a big dose of nostalgia (can you still call it nostalgia when you weren’t born then and live on the other side of the world?).
It’s even got the adverts in there - everything from restaurants, piano bars, bathhouses, gyms, adult bookstores, Fire Island, the works of Wilhelm von Gloeden… (that last would not go down well today!)
This is one of my favourite eras to read about and watch things from, and there are some great interviews within. Everyone from John Waters, Divine, Andrew Holleran, Larry Kramer, Robert La Tourneaux, bathhouse proprietors, lounge singers… it’s really great. Frank O’Dowd (such a cutie) hosts and Vito Russo (I love his smile) does some of the interviewing.
I’ve included the John Waters one here, which I’ve watched a few times. Just click through to the uploader for more, if you like. The quality of some isn’t great, but it’s such a treasure trove. Even today I feel it’s rare to find things by us and for us in this way. Enjoy!

For those of you who read Christina Crawford's MOMMIE DEAREST, the book, what did you think of it and how different it is from the film?
I didn't understand Christina Crawford's complaints about the film being campy, over the top, because the book is even more extreme. The Wire Hangers beatings weren't just one incident, it happened repeatedly. The film doesn't portray how Christina ended up having to do chores in the Academy because Joan sometimes didn't pay tuition.
One of the most extreme incidents is when Joan had Christina wear a ripped dress (her favorite) to school as punishment for removing a bit of wallpaper from the wall.
I thought the movie was fairly faithful to the book. I'd say the film was even much more generous in how it depicted Christina and Joan.

Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, the man who was flung from a Six Flags rollercoaster in Georgia, survived a car fire just a few weeks ago. > Survived a car fire with his daughter. > Survived cancer twice. > Survived a difficult fight with Covid-19. > Died after being flung from a Six Flags rollercoaster.
This is extremely sad. The workers were probably afraid to tell him he was too fat for the ride. The bar couldn't completely latch over his belly. Son was next to him. Imagine living with that memory.

Two popular gay social media influencers have relocated to Chicago
youtube.comArt Bezruvavenko, a Ukranian twink influencer was based in NYC where he lived with his finance bro boyfriend, Johnny (nickname is Pumpkin) recently upped and moved to the Windy City.
Afterwards, fellow gay influencer, Chris Stanley, originally from New Hampshire who lived in South Florida came to town to visit and Art persuaded him to move there. Chris bought a condo for himself in Art's new building.
Could Chicago be morphing into a focal point for gay social media activity?
