Being asked to switch in our substation (company owned)
Are there any other Data Center companies that are asking their Data Center Technicians (or Critical Facilities Engineer or Mission Critical Engineers) to switch in a live substation and through the MV Loop for their companies? If so, did that come with additional pay and qualifications paid for by the company? Thanks in advance!

has any body gotten a message like this after fit call at google?
Thank you again for taking the time to speak with me and the interview team. The team found enough positive indicators to move you to next steps; however, we are currently waiting for a role to open that aligns with your specific profile.

How much heat does one (AI)Data Center actully produce and how can we use it?
Im architectural student working on a project of old factory reuse and at the moment deciding on a new spatial program for this factory.
I belive data centers would be a big think in the future and would like include them into my project. Although, accordingly to the latest news: known AI companies agreed on slowing down the development, but need of compute power hasn't evaporated.
My first thought was, that one can use the heat of the data computing unit for the factory heating purposes in winter, or to maintain the tempreture on the fields of some vertical farm(a possible partial use for the factory).
So, to know wether the heat and temp. produced by data center could be of any use, it's important to know: How much heat does one Data Center actually produce and how can we use it?
Let's assume the size of one cluster is 216m2 and like 10 of them work together so 2.160m2 of area, with usual compute power(the temp. dependce on power, but I really have idea which ammount would I need, or plan for the project, it's still on an early concept stage)
Thanks for your attention and answers!

What would you say is the best company to work for in the Midwest for data centers.
I know there are numerous companies but if I plan to move to Chicago I want to know if equinix is a good option.
I might most likely work at Equinix CH1

A data center next door: What changed for Forest City neighbors after 13 years?
wlos.comHey everyone! My name is Elijah Skipper. I'm an investigative reporter with News 13 in Western North Carolina.
With all the attention on data centers, I wanted to go back to one that's been here for years and find out what life has actually been like next door.
Our station investigated generator noise at Facebook's Forest City site in 2013. I tracked down two of the neighbors from that report, Jim Bennett and Tommy Doggett, and went back to see them.
We watched their old interviews together, then went into Jim's backyard beside the site. They say it's much quieter now. Both believe the sound-absorbing material and trees helped.
Something that stayed with me was how much credit they gave the original reporting for getting Facebook to listen. They also wanted to acknowledge that the company became a better neighbor.
But getting there took time. In our 2015 follow-up, neighbors were still saying the noise was a problem.
I went back through the earlier coverage and state records and kept following up with Meta about what changed, when, and whether Forest City influenced its practices elsewhere. At publication, its spokesperson was still trying to track down answers. We hadn't obtained a current generator testing schedule or written agreement showing what hours apply now.
I think there's something useful here for other WNC communities having these conversations. Hearing that things improved matters. So does understanding what residents had to do to get there and what commitments they can actually rely on.
If you live near the Forest City site, what has your experience been? For people elsewhere in WNC, what would you want settled before a data center is approved near homes?
I'm happy to answer questions about the reporting. Feedback and suggestions for what deserves another look are welcome, too.

Passed Google DCT interviews but still waiting for a position. Anyone else been here?
Hey everyone, I passed my Google Data Center Technician II interviews about 3 weeks ago and now im waiting to see if a team picks me up.
My recruiter has emailed me saying I did very well, my scores were strong, and my skillset is highly competitive. He also said people getting selected ahead of me have direct data center experience with companies like AWS, Meta, or IBM. He clarified that this was his observation and he doesnt have access to the hiring managers internal discussions.
I currently work in IT doing hardware troubleshooting, workstation deployments, networking support and some server installations, but I havent worked in an actual data center. I studied pretty hard for these interviews, so passing felt great. Waiting afterwards has been discouraging though, especially when I keep seeing postings for the same location.
I have a preferred location but recently opened up to another site too. My recruiter is still responding and says I’m actively being considered, so I know it isn’t a rejection. I just dont really know what to expect from here.
For anyone who’s been in this situation, how long did you wait after passing before getting a fit call or an offer? Did anyone get hired without previous data center experience after being passed over for other candidates?
Would appreciate hearing how it actually went for you, even if it didn’t end in an offer.
Thank you all!

Is this a good certificate to get for DCT apprenticeship?
I was thinking of doing the Official Cisco CCST Networking exam as a way to make me stand out during the application process I currently work at a switchgear company as an engineering fitter apprentice where we install and assemble many different switch boards, panel boards, LV switch boards etc which already ties into data centre’s but I just want to gain more knowledge. Please lmk if it’s a good certificate to get and if there are any better suited ones

Dear daddy altman and elon here is my solution to your bs, if you dont take it seriously i dont blame you
Subject: Proposal for Sustainable AI Data Centres Using Wastewater and Waste Heat
Dear OpenAI team,
I would like to propose a sustainable data centre design that could reduce freshwater consumption, recover wasted heat and generate additional energy.
The concept is to integrate four systems:
Wastewater recycling: Treat municipal sewage and reuse the reclaimed water in data centre cooling systems.
Biogas electricity: Use anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge to generate biogas, which can produce electricity and heat.
Heat recovery: Capture excess heat from data centre servers and supply it to nearby greenhouses or agricultural facilities where practical.
Resource integration: Locate these facilities near wastewater treatment plants and farms to reduce transport costs and make better use of available resources.
The goal is to create a circular system in which wastewater becomes a cooling resource, sewage solids provide supplementary energy, and waste heat benefits local agriculture.
I believe this concept deserves a feasibility study, particularly in water-stressed regions such as South Africa.
Thank you for considering this proposal.
Kind regards,
An interested member of the public
