She'd take a headpat as you non-verbally telling her to act like a dog, a hug or a kiss as you groping her and think she'd have to undress or that the gift is trapped if given one. She'd also probably think compliments aren't genuine.

I'm having "argument" with my gf about if Makoto and Hajime. I think Makoto is drippy, she however thinks they are both boring and NEITHER of them have drip. I just think Makoto got that shit on but she thinks it's overkill to say he is drippy. Opinions?

Merch Monomi Hat?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I have this monomi hat that I randomly found at the local uptown cheapskates. I was wondering if it is worth anything? Brand is XtheAnime and it’s “designed by Halder” whoever that is. This picture is the only one I could find on Google of the exact hat I have but unfortunately the link is broken. It looks similar to the one sold via aliexpress but that Ali one doesn’t have the lower lip line, which is very distinctly different. Does anyone have any insight on this hat at all?

Discussion Something I noticed in my short stay here...

People here are actually NICER than in r/aceattorney. Rules seem more lenient, too.

Over there, they have a dumb rule about posting tiers only on Tuesday and even remove them whenever they feel. Heck, I've had threads I've typed out by phone (mind you it takes me much longer to do that, AND I can't just copy text from posts (on mobile) to save on time, no...I have to retype the entire post on my phone.

Over here, people seem to be more open and friendly.

Simply put, keep being decent human beings...that aren't filled with bright pink blood!

Hi everyone!

My name is Autumn Vannini, and I am an undergraduate student in Sociology at the University of British Columbia. I'm beginning my research on kinning fictional characters for my undergraduate Honours Thesis, and I would love to learn more about how people kin and relate to fictional characters!

If you are a North American fandom participant (18+), I would love to hear from you about the specific fictional characters you relate to, and what the act of kinning means to you. I'd be more than happy to tell you more about my research and answer any questions you may have for me!

If you are interested, and would like to help me with my research, please reach me at avannini@ubc.ca or +1-250-222-0089 for more details! Please feel free to share this post with others who may be interested in participating, and they can get in contact with me as well.

Thank you so much for your interest!

Discussion I Really Wasn't Expecting to Love Danganronpa V3 Spoiler

As a fan of the Danganronpa games, I truthfully wanted to get through V3 just so I could participate in the fandom and memes, as apparently it's not possible to engage with Danganronpa at all without having the entire series spoiled. I was very cautious in my playthrough.

I'm one of the few people who didn't like DR2 all that much, and I've heard a lot of negative things about V3, especially the ending, of course. This led to me having a very poor first impression of the game. The prologue of V3 is by far my least favorite part of the game; I thought it was very boring and dragged on for way too long. The Exisals didn't interest me as setup (they're not actually threatening, similar to Monobeasts from DR2), and I never liked the Monokubs since their introduction. It doesn't help that the game basically restarts 20 minutes in. This is of course intriguing as the characters have no memory of this happening, but this made me very impatient as you have basically no exposition and don't meet a character besides Shuichi for like 45 minutes. It doesn't help that you can't access the Monopad or the transcript for a long time, which was frustrating to me. When I'm playing these games I like to frequently read back through the transcript if I glossed over something. I genuinely felt like the game was testing my endurance before I actually met the first characters (Tsumugi, K1-B0 and Kokichi). I don't think many people will disagree that Shuichi isn't a very stimulating character in Chapter 1.

As someone who doesn't care about games graphics all that much, I thought V3 was absolutely gorgeous. I think the aesthetics of this game is practically flawless. If we're being nitpicky I think the sprite where Kaede has her two fists in the air looks stupid, and a lot of the side profiles look weird, like Rantaro looks kinda like a fish. But that's really nitpicking, other than that I think the game looks incredible and I found myself often pausing my progression of the game just to stare at the art. The sprites for all of the characters are nothing short of beautiful and give the characters so much personality. This is also the only one of the games which shows the protagonist's sprite onscreen, which I think was a very good decision. I think without the sprites being what they are I would not have liked the characters as much, they just add so much depth and complexity. This of course extends to the Student Handbook and especially the trials. I love the way that the arguments are presented and how even the words are positioned on the screen, this adds flair of course but also some earned difficulty to the Nonstop Debate sections. Beyond the words, even something like the color or the visuals for when Angie makes a point in a Nonstop Debate are great to look at. It feels like whoever made the art for the trials had a lot of fun with it and was intentional with every scene, which makes for a really enjoyable playing experience.

The sound design and music is also great, which is to be expected in the Danganronpa series, but this soundtrack is my favorite. Every single one of the tracks are memorable and have a distinct personality, which elevates the entire game. For example, I think Beautiful Lie is intended to be Kaede's theme, and it follows us throughout the game, just like how Kaede's influence follows Shuichi. Even something like Psyche Taxi's track and sound effects add a lot to the minigame and the trials - the music is intentionally somewhat basic and degenerate but a ton of fun. I don't think I would like Psyche Taxi on mute but it ended up being something I was delighted to see in trials. In short, the aesthetics in V3 stick out as particularly great even in a series whose aesthetics I like.

In terms of trial mechanics/games, V3 is my favorite by far. I like the V Points because they add an extra challenge but you can completely ignore them without penalty. I really love the lying mechanic and wish it was used more, or had more challenge associated with it. As it is, there is only ~1 required lie per trial, and the game makes it extremely obvious whenever you need to lie (Shuichi also all but tells you if you loop the argument). I really hated the Hangman's Gambit minigames in the previous games but I think V3's rendition is a good attempt at making it playable, and it speeds them up a good bit. Debate Scrum isn't exactly high art but it has a pretty hype atmosphere which I appreciate. Mind Mine I didn't like but it was inoffensive. Psyche Taxi and Mass Panic Debate are loads of fun in my opinion. Obviously the Nonstop Debate is the star of the show as it's always been.

This is more of a critique with the Danganronpa games in general, but I wish there was more difficulty in the class trials, especially when I'm voluntarily playing the hardest difficulty. It feels quite inconsistent but more on the easy side, and then out of nowhere the last Mass Panic Debate and Argument Armament in Ch6 are crazy hard. The final A.A. is the only time in the series I've had to actually use the Skills mechanic; I basically minmaxed specifically for AA and still had a hard time (skill issue I know).

I know this is controversial, but DR3 has my favorite cast of characters. There were a lot of characters in DR2 who frankly brought the story down for me (Sonia, Kazuichi, Nekomaru, Ibuki), and the mid-tier characters weren't all that great either in my opinion. Of the DR3 characters, the only ones I don't like are the Monokubs (whose very existence is nothing more than a massive waste of time), Tenko, and Gonta. When Gonta was introduced I was excited by the concept - he looks like a big dumb caveman but he's actually trying to become a gentleman, and he's pretty smart too - as the Ultimate Entomologist, he's a legitimate scientist. Unfortunately, and this hurts me to say this, Gonta was written to just be a big dumb caveman who likes bugs. Other than them, I enjoyed seeing every character onscreen. Even characters who weren't my favorites, like Himiko or Korekiyo, were a ton of fun and were written with intention which came through strongly. I appreciate that Shuichi underwent competent character development which gradually changed him from someone I was dreading playing as (in Ch1) into my favorite protagonist of the 3. I'm also very glad that they finally made the protagonist the Ultimate Detective. In DR1 for example I was like, Byakuya and Kyoko sure are good investigators, I wish I was playing as them instead. My personal favorites are Kokichi and Miu, who are two deceptively deep characters with a lot to interpret. Besides character depth, I was very impressed to feel like Kokichi has a ton of charisma, even when he's being actively antagonistic and uncooperative. It made it that much more believable that he could be the Ultimate Supreme Leader and gain a following despite being outwardly immature and disagreeable. I also appreciate that they didn't make him into a joke just because he's short. He's highly intelligent, deceptive, charismatic, his intentions are never clear, and he is outwardly evil at times, but the game never feels the need to emasculate him using his height or anything else. In short, I appreciate that the story didn't try to character assassinate him or bring him down artificially, which is an instinct many inferior stories seem to have. I loved watching him.

Similarly, I appreciate that the story didn't retcon Kaede and give her undue significance. There are so many pitfalls that the story could have fallen into, but the story's treatment of Kaede until the end of Chapter 1 was enough - she was a super bubbly character who believed in hope, she encouraged Shuichi to have confidence in himself, she tried to unify everyone to escape, she tried to kill the mastermind, and sacrificed her life just to try to expose the mastermind in the class trial. I bet a lot of people were hoping for one last twist involving her, but she was a completed character. Sure, she didn't technically kill Rantaro, but that's more of a technicality than anything, she still intended to - and the shot would have been super lucky anyway.

One thing I didn't like was some questionable decisions made by the characters. For example, Korekiyo sabotages himself and kills Tenko for literally no reason. "He's crazy" isn't a satisfactory excuse for this. I also think it's beyond absurd that everyone would go into Miu's simulation willingly. If I remember correctly they don't even know if they can get back out when they first go in. But also, besides Miu, nobody knows anything about this simulation and you're completely cut off from your real body. Did they forget they were in a killing game? But it gets even worse, because apparently people can just leave the simulation voluntarily. If I understand this correctly, someone can leave the simulation through the phone, get a sharp object or something, and kill EVERYONE unobstructed. I don't think it's fathomable that everyone agreed to go into the simulation, and agreed to STAY with the knowledge that someone could just log out and have full access to murder them with 0 resistance.

By the way, am I the only one who thinks that Korekiyo's scythe trick makes no sense? First of all, I'm skeptical of the physics of seesawing someone on a wooden board on a rectangular axle. But also, he sneaks the scythe under the cloth, and somehow suspends it so that the blade is facing directly down, in full view of 3 people by the way. Somehow this doesn't produce an imprint on the white cloth, and also the bump that would undoubtably be coming out off the top of the cage doesn't throw off the balance of the dog statue? I'm genuinely confused.

I also in general don't like not having sufficient evidence before the class trial, because I like to pause the game for a few hours and solidify a concrete suspect list, theory, and timeline before continuing. I get that not everyone will play like this and it's unreasonable to have all of the information, but it's nice to be able to test my own deductive skills before the trial. However, in Case 4, someone (Gonta) had an avatar error when they first logged in. The game explicitly tells us that this could cause ANYTHING and be ANYONE. How am I supposed to investigate and come up with a theory when there's a variable that could be literally anything that could entirely change the course of the trial? Miu says that mixing up the cords could even cause a body swap or change your gender, so no ass-pull is too out of the question to derail the trial. Thankfully, it's pretty tame - Gonta's memories didn't transfer to the real world - but I feel like there's a less annoying way of communicating this information.

As for the ending.

I have always considered the endings of the Danganronpa games to almost be separate entities, because of how different and weird they are. Because of that, there's only so much the ending could bother me.

The ending is essentially a giant middle finger to the fans (if you squint you can interpret it a different way I suppose), and it thoroughly humiliates all of its own characters. But it has a lot to say and it really commits. It kind of mirrors the first case in that way - even though I was tricked, I'm far more impressed by the fact that this game had the balls to make a murder happen off-screen by the protagonist WHILE WE ARE WATCHING THEIR PERSPECTIVE, than I am insulted. It's incredible to me that the game, successfully, INTENTIONALLY, caused REAL LIFE DESPAIR to the fandom. It was truly shocking to me when I played it and caused me actual despair, it didn't cause me to be angry at the game. I think it's brilliant.

It's not at all clear how much Tsumugi is telling the truth. She's established to be a liar many times - I mean, she explicitly breaks the rules during the first trial. Many people are annoyed with Tsumugi, I personally wasn't because I knew she was the mastermind the whole game (I mean, she's literally cosplaying Sayaka Maizono the whole time, which calls into question either her cospox or whether Sayaka was fictional; also, she never actually shows her Ultimate Talent). This leads the ending open to interpretation. Personally I think that she was lying and didn't plan any of this; Kokichi completely derailed the game and his plan actually worked in the long run.

But in general, an ending that is bleak and invalidates a lot of the story is not that out of character for Danganronpa. For example, in Danganronpa 2, the Neo World Program fails and the only thing that happens during the game is that a lot of the characters die for no reason. The virtual selves are eradicated and there aren't even their memories to show for it, but they still decide to look forward with hope and try again. This mirrors the "fiction" of DRV3's story in my opinion.

Either way, whether you love the ending or hate it, you cannot deny that it was made with passion. Maybe that passion was passionate hatred for the fans, but that still means something to me. I love the ending.

There is no doubt on my mind that nagito was HEAVILY focused on the normal dangan 2 route, with we even playing as him, his reveal to be a crazy guy, and also his master plan to reveal chiaki, but like...

Doing all of this again doesnt seem very... interesting

Another reveal that nagito is crazy? They trying to deal with his insanity for hope again? Not dissing his character, i love nagito, but it wont be anything new, so i dont think they sould approach this again on the new route

So what do you guys think it would be the best approach on nagito?

Discussion Do other Danganronpa games use 3D models for CGs too, or did they change it up?

I've heard that the first game used 3D models for its CGs. Did the other games in the series stick with that method, or did they do something different?
