Is there any downscalers I can buy today that I can use for my composite CRT TV?

Recently I bought an ODVS GBS C to connect my PS4 to a HDMI input signal into component via a converter. That then connects to an HDMI out via a composite into the CRT TV.

When I connected it. It showed me video and sound perfectly but when I try to access picture controls and access 480i. It doesn't change anything as it is stuck to pass through.

Are there any scan converters or downscalers that have HDM input and composite out that can be used for any CRT TV?

Hey I was working on a project for someone and I found this TV they say it works it's just a little Dusty and they said I could have it it's a Sanyo and I'll try and send as much information as I can via picture. I've got my fingers crossed that it is because I'd love one for retro gaming

Hello :) New to this hobby and need a remote for my Toshiba MD13P3. Suggestions?

I scored this at an estate sale for near nothing (unfortunately the disc tray doesn’t eject/work) and would like a remote to go with it. I bought an original DC-FN20S off eBay which I believe went with it, however I think the seller lied about the controllers condition as only the power, eject, and channel buttons work, no volume unfortunately.

Hi! I’m trying to connect my nintendo switch to my sony trinitron crt and it seems like i just keep getting pulled back and forth. every listing i come up on says RCA to HDMI, even when i search the opposite. I have all the cords, i only need the adapter. I’ve attached my exact crt model number as well. Can anybody point me in the right direction? I’m hoping to spend around $20. thanks!!!

CRT TV NON-FUNCTIONAL

Hello everyone, does anyone has any ideas on where to get either just the shell or a non-functional CRT TV? In the bar area preferably?

We need one for a theatre production that we can retrofit with lighting, etc. They are so popular right now, but I know there must be broken ones somewhere online.

Thanks!

To buy or to not buy

Hey y'all! Question. I found this Sony at an estate sale less than an hour from me for $100. Would you snag it? I've been wanting to get into CRT and electronics repair. I'm an IT guy by day and spent years managing and working in a computer repair shop. I've never really gotten into soldering beyond the basics, but I understand components, diagnostics, multimeters, and the general repair process.

Part of me thinks learning CRT repair could be a fun hobby and maybe even a small side gig. I live in rural-ish northeast Ohio, and while there are repair shops within driving distance about it the closest is still about an hour away, it seems like a useful skill to learn myself. I've already been picking up cheaper CRTs in the $10-50 range when I find them, though I'm pretty sure my wife isn't thrilled with the growing collection in the basement.

As far as I know, this Sony works fine. I've just been surprised by how expensive even non-desirable CRTs have gotten lately. To me, $100 doesn't seem terrible when similar sets are selling for $250-300 on eBay, even with buyers paying shipping. Feels like it could be a good learning set, and maybe a decent flip later if I decide to go that route.

What do you all think? Worth the $100? 😅

Free Toshiba

Today, I got a free Toshiba 32A35 from a customer (older lady) while at work. She lives in an old house built in 1920 and the TV was on the second floor, all the way at the end of the hall. If anyone is familiar with older homes, everything is smaller and narrower. Bringing the TV down the stairs alone in the narrowest curved staircase was a struggle but I got it down. Then fitting it into my garbage truck was tricky. Had to lift it over my head to get it in and I wiggle it around to get the passenger door to close. Sorry, no pictures on any of that, I don’t use my phone while I work to stay vigilant as I drive. I do have pictures of loading it up onto my Goldwing. Had videos of my ride home but I don’t know how to upload them. I have a 30 minute commute one way but I decided to take a longer, less traversed route (50 minute ride home) to avoid semi trucks so that they wouldn’t push me while passing on the opposite side of the road. With all my typical work bags and then with the tv in the pillion seat, the rear weighed more than I do and would lift the front wheel just enough to cause death wobbles at higher speeds. Had to stand a good amount to get as much weight as possible to the footpegs. TV also acted like a wind sail. Today was raining all day and quite windy so I would slide here and there. Made it home, opened it up, cleaned it, and now brought it downstairs to my basement. Trick now is figuring out where I’m going to put it. Doesn’t fit in entertainment center.

Which would you grab? I’d like eventually a small 9-13 inch tv to pair with it! The Panasonic comes with a remote. The other two come with DVD.

How does the PS3 compare to the Xbox 360 as a media player in 2026?

Post image

I have an unmodded Xbox 360 S connected to my Sony PVM-20M4U with a component cable and use it with the official remote control. Plex stopped working for me this year, but the 360 still supports:

  • DVDs
  • MP4 (H.264) or AVI via USB
  • Netflix
  • YouTube

Do any of you guys have both a PS3 and an Xbox 360? If so, how do they compare?

Gave this tv a second chance at life, it was thrown into a big giant recycling bin and the worker let me take it for free. Made my day.

I Just Got My First Sony PVM At A Thrift Store For $33

Earlier today, I went to a locally owned thrift store where I found this 1987 Sony PVM-1271Q for a total of $33. It does work, but I had to adjust the settings a little bit to correct the picture, and there was a tiny bit of burn-in on the tube itself. However, the burn-in is so faint that it's only really visible on blank black screens.

Nordmende Galaxy 36A

Hello crt friends, I‘m not the first one sporting a white Nordmende Galaxy, so shoutouts to this guy first: https://www.reddit.com/r/crtgaming/comments/ym93is/nordmende_galaxy_36af_hooked_up_with_a_pi400/

But here is mine, original familiy property. Haven‘t touched it in about 30 years and it still works perfectly. The tray on the front is intact, it has not turned too yellow and the remote is there too (though I will have to clean it because of leaked batteries).
The TV has rgb-friendly Scart in the back, an own antenna and a headphones jack and mono AV on the front.

What Nordmende means to me: well, my folks had a few Nordmende TVs and VCRs, it was never the coolest brand in the world to me, a little stuffy and grandparents style to me. But now that I am 40up myself I actually like and miss that company. Not as popular as Grundig, not as stylish as Loewe, not as high-end as Metz - but still good German workman‘s craft like we used to say.

And especially this white beauty cutie has something about it. First second I found it a little microwavish looking but after a moment I liked it al lot. Could fit perfect with a Dreamcast, PSOne or Wii.

PC vs Raspberry Pi vs PS3/360 for watching shows on CRT

You may have seen my earlier post where I asked about the best way to connect an HDMI device to a CRT. After waffling over it for a while, I realized that HDCP would likely stop my idea in its tracks, even if I were to afford a scaler.

A few people suggested I connect a PC, which would be the most flexible option if I could get it set up, but I'm also thinking it might be easier to use a Raspberry Pi or even a homebrew-enabled PS3 or Xbox 360; since these devices have native 480i output.

Streaming services would be out of the question if I went the PS3/360 route, but I wonder if Android on a Pi would be a viable option. It's not like having Widevine certification for going over 720p would matter here.

What are your thoughts on this?

CRT power cord help

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hello, I made a reddit account just for this so hopefully someone can help me

I recently found a ct f2120s Panasonic on the streets, it looks in very good condition and I was able to talk to the ones who threw it out, they said it still worked, they just didn't need it anymore, so I took it with me on the bus to my house

Someone ripped the power cord off, most likely for the copper, I thought I could just use another cable but when they ripped it off they took the entire thing, only leaving the PCB pin that connected to it, so I was wondering if anyone could help me find a replacement for it so I can give this CRT a new life

How to safely fix random green flashes on crt

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

I got this Samsung crt tv about like 2-3 weeks ago and it’s been playing fine but lately it’s been having these big green flashes on the screen and just yesterday the screen all turned like this purple tint with black lines through out the screen and would only go away once I powered off the tv and unplugged it. And it will still have the green flashes randomly and just want to know if there’s a way to fix it? I heard you need to adjust the G2 knobs inside but I know it’s really dangerous inside and don’t want to be electrocuted. And I also want to try and clean up the dust inside as I think that might be causing some issues.

1991 Zenith issues

Thumbnail gallery

Hi all! I need some help.

My Zenith SJ5747LK CRT television displays moving horizontal dark bands across the picture, particularly in scenes with more blue. The issue occurs on both composite and S-Video inputs and becomes worse when brightness or contrast is increased. Lowering brightness eliminates the problem, but reducing color saturation to zero does not. The bands continue moving behind the on-screen display (OSD), while the OSD text itself remains perfectly stable and unaffected.
