Why is there always an audience for these things?

Everyone is too scared to be seen as the only one who "doesn't get it". What you need is a half pissed Scottish bloke to loudly declare "This shite is pish!" before kicking the bucket.

Lots of people out there wearing the Emperor's New Clothes.

My ex used to drag me to these things. There's always one of three things - someone screaming, someone on the floor or a bucket. Once I even saw all three at once.

If there’s no one watching, is it really a performance?

Small art shows like these usually have free booze and sometimes little sandwiches

When I was a college student many moons ago in san francisco i would check the listings for gallery openings. Got drunk for free so many times

Maybe this is throwup bucket? Shown around to everyone who needs it? Helping the poor, and those in need?

Wow! I love this performance! It is soo deep and amazing!

Personally, I would go to performances and exhibition opening nights (usually stuff made by the local art school students) mostly because usually there was a cool thing or two to see, cool people to meet and free wine
