Basically trauma can cause you to act indifferent and shut down emotion. Giving you advantage of acting through actions faster i think?

Yah having trauma is a debuff wish i had fewer

Nah it's not that deep. Just "being a child soldier is traumatic" + the "unfair advantage" talking point in women sports.

If anything, mech pilots skew to be either angry-autistic or not being able to control their emotional outbursts, or both. Emotionally withdrawn characters are not so fun to watch, storytelling-wise, after all.

There's, of course, Rei and her whole archetype, but there isn't a lot o her expies all things considered, and she and her expies are also often criticized as bland, cardboard-cutout etc.

Though I agree with a commenter that says this sounds exactly like something Asuka would say if Shinji was trans.

I mean i think the joke here is the transphobe is a fucking idiot

I mean maybe, but more straightforwardly, its just the tropes of the mecha (& mechspolitation) genres. Classic mecha such as Gundam, Eva etc. all revolved around a cast of pilots mostly consisting of young, traumatized child soldiers. The mechspoilation genre just turned that up to 11 in an explicitly trans way. By the tropes of the genre being traumatized is a necessary requirement to be a pilot.

Male mech pilot complaining it's not fair that he's the only one who doesn't get a power of love boost in key moments because all the other pilots are lesbians.

11

u/LovelyKestrel 13h ago

Has he considered the power of unrequited love boost? Or maybe HRT?

I think just in general the pilots in mech shows are often traumatized and the joke is playing off of that

In a lot of Mecha Anime, the pilots are children, for what reason ever.... and they get over and over traumatized.... and have to live with that and FUNCTION.... main example: "Neon Genesis Evangelion".

Trans Persons get traumatized a lot, and those who "survive" gain a kind of resilience and are able to "function" on a daily base.

So they kind of have "an advantage" through training because people out there are constantly shitty towards them.

It's also a joke on how people claim that Trans woman have an advantage in sports because one time a man was forced to compete in woman's sports and did insane, people only stopped at the "trans" part without the man so it spread like a wildfire across the right

As if Gundam hasn't also been "war trauma but with cool mechs" since its inception.

Gundam has war trauma, Evangelion has pure trauma.

u/ArgonianDov ☆ a transmasc voidpunker ☆ 17h ago

Probably Evangelion, this feels like something Asuka would say to a transfem Shinji or something lol

Oh boy, i hope your pilot is intelligent enough to keep up with Lucifer, or they will be royally ducked bei the NHP

3

u/Fickle_Airport_9848 16h ago

I run Sekhmet because if I'm not going feral am I even playing Enkidu correctly?

1

u/Antigamer199 CIS Guy Undercover 16h ago

The duck is wrong with you do you hate your pilots life? /j

But no i can see how a melee frame will only benefit from the Berserker system^ but wonder is there a debuff if you put a Sekhmet from IPS-N in a Harrison Armory frame?

Being able to alter more than a few mechsploitation memes into real ventposts about my field work job this past year has been instrumental to my career success. Send me in chief! Im the bomb dog who always comes back. Never refer to me as a person again, you know management doesn't see either of us as human.

Tell me you've never seen Evangelion without telling me you've never seen Evangelion.
